Book Help There s a Liberal in the Corner Office

Download or read book Help There s a Liberal in the Corner Office written by Kathleen Kelly and published by Kathleen Kelly. This book was released on 2008 with total page 96 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Yeah...it's true. It's pretty darned hard to be a principled conservative in today's corporate world. In fact, it more or less can get you fired. In nearly 20 years seeking the "perfect-storm" of merit, principle, dedication, faith, fact, truth, right-is-good-and-wrong-is-just-wrong governed by general honesty in the modern day Corporate America I am sorry to break it to you; it just doesn't exist. This book will chronicle real events that have happened in Corporate America; the good, the bad, the downright shocking and frankly the very frightening state of affairs of what the "Everybody-Gets-A-Ribbon" liberal movement and the Political Correctness nonsense have done to business. If you wanted to get work done, promote someone, fire someone, move someone, pray for someone, expose someone and generally cut through the office political goo in the Corporate environment consider yourself forewarned that the rules of the game have changed.dramatically. Kathleen Kelly is a 20-year veteran of the corporate circus holding down very senior and not-so-senior roles at some of the nation's biggest companies (and some of the smallest, never-heard-of, probably-out-of-business-by-now companies too). Born and raised on the east coast, Kelly spends much of her time ducking "emotional, feel-good grenades" hurled by liberal counterparts and spends free time "building consensus" in target practice at the gun range by working on her groupings. She is proud of her plebian "State University Degree" and has sworn to never utter "B-school" in conversation again. The self-described "political freak" and her equally armed spouse live in a great city in the greatest country in the world raising two future "Evil Republicans" who will no doubt skip the corporate circus and follow their parents into Entrepreneurship. In her spare time Kelly is a busy writer, political mouthpiece, and speeding-ticket-collector along with cooking up some legendary desserts.

Book The Diplomat in the Corner Office

Download or read book The Diplomat in the Corner Office written by Timothy L. Fort and published by Stanford University Press. This book was released on 2015-10-28 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In The Diplomat in the Corner Office, Timothy L. Fort, one of the founders of the business and peace movement, reflects on the progress of the movement over the past 15 years—from a niche position into a mainstream economic and international relations perspective. In the 21st century global business environment, says Fort, businesses can and should play a central role in peace-building, and he demonstrates that it is to companies' strategic advantage to do so. Anchoring his arguments in theories from economics and international relations, Fort makes the case that businesses must augment familiar notions of corporate responsibility and ethical behavior with the concept of corporate foreign policy in order to thrive in today's world. He presents a series of case studies focusing on companies that have made peace a goal, either as an end in itself or because of its instrumental value in building their companies, to articulate three different approaches that businesses can use to quell international conflict— peace making, peace keeping, and peace building. He then demonstrates their effectiveness and proposes policies that can be utilized by business, civil society, and government to increase the likelihood of business playing a constructive role in the conciliatory process. This book will be of enormous use not only to students and scholars but also to leaders in NGOs, government, and business.

Book The Conscience of a Liberal

Download or read book The Conscience of a Liberal written by Paul Krugman and published by W. W. Norton & Company. This book was released on 2009-01-12 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The most consistent and courageous—and unapologetic—liberal partisan in American journalism." —Michael Tomasky, New York Review of Books In this "clear, provocative" (Boston Globe) New York Times bestseller, Paul Krugman, today's most widely read economist, examines the past eighty years of American history, from the reforms that tamed the harsh inequality of the Gilded Age and the 1920s to the unraveling of that achievement and the reemergence of immense economic and political inequality since the 1970s. Seeking to understand both what happened to middle-class America and what it will take to achieve a "new New Deal," Krugman has created his finest book to date, a "stimulating manifesto" offering "a compelling historical defense of liberalism and a clarion call for Americans to retake control of their economic destiny" (Publishers Weekly). "As Democrats seek a rationale not merely for returning to power, but for fundamentally changing—or changing back—the relationship between America's government and its citizens, Mr. Krugman's arguments will prove vital in the months and years ahead." —Peter Beinart, New York Times

Book excerpt: Michael Lewis is a master at dissecting the absurd: after skewering Wall Street in his national bestseller Liar's Poker, he packed his mighty pen and set out on the 1996 campaign trail. As he follows the men who aspire to the Oval Office, Lewis discovers an absurd mix of bravery and backpedaling, heroic possibility and mealy-mouthed sound bytes, and a process so ridiculous and unsavory that it leaves him wondering if everyone involved—from the journalists to the candidates to the people who voted—isn't ultimately a loser. The contenders: Pat Buchanan: becomes the first politician ever to choose a black hat over a white one. Phil Gramm: spends twenty million dollars to convince voters of his fiscal responsibility. John McCain: makes the fatal mistake of actually speaking his mind. Alan Keyes: checks out of a New Hampshire hotel and tells the manager another candidate will be paying his bill. Steve Forbes: refuses to answer questions about his father's motorcycles. Bob Dole: marches through the campaign without ever seeming to care. Losers is a wickedly funny, unflinching look at how America really goes about choosing a President.

In McLennan's bold call to reclaim ownership of Christianity, he advocates a sense of religion based not on doctrinal readings of scripture but on the humanity behind Christ's teachings. He addresses such topics as intelligent design, abortion, same sex marriage, war. torture and much, much more. As he says in the Preface, "We liberal Christians know in our hearts that there is much more to life than seems to meet the rational eye of atheists; yet we find it hard to support supernatural claims about religion that fly in the face of scientific evidence."

Book Religion and Authoritarianism

Download or read book Religion and Authoritarianism written by Karrie J. Koesel and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2014-02-24 with total page 241 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a rare window into the micropolitics of contemporary authoritarian rule through a comparison of religious-state relations in Russia and China - two countries with long histories of religious repression, and even longer experiences with authoritarian politics. Drawing on extensive fieldwork in multiple sites in these countries, this book explores what religious and political authority want from one another, how they negotiate the terms of their relationship, and how cooperative or conflicting their interactions are. This comparison reveals that while tensions exist between the two sides, there is also ample room for mutually beneficial interaction. Religious communities and their authoritarian overseers are cooperating around the core issue of politics - namely, the struggle for money, power and prestige - and becoming unexpected allies in the process.

Book Seeing Around Corners

Download or read book Seeing Around Corners written by Rita McGrath and published by Houghton Mifflin. This book was released on 2019 with total page 277 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first prescriptive, innovative guide to seeing inflection points before they happen--and how to harness these disruptive influences to give your company a strategic advantage. Paradigmatic shifts in the business landscape, known as inflection points, can either create new, entrepreneurial opportunities (see Amazon and Netflix) or they can lead to devastating consequences (e.g., Blockbuster and Toys R Us). Only those leaders who can "see around corners"-that is, spot the disruptive inflection points developing before they hit-are poised to succeed in this market. Columbia Business School Professor and corporate consultant Rita McGrath contends that inflection points, though they may seem sudden, are not random. Every seemingly overnight shift is the final stage of a process that has been subtly building for some time. Armed with the right strategies and tools, smart businesses can see these inflection points coming and use them to gain a competitive advantage. Seeing Around Corners is the first hands-on guide to anticipating, understanding, and capitalizing on the inflection points shaping the marketplace.

Download or read book The Future of the Disabled in Liberal Society written by Hans S. Reinders and published by . This book was released on 2000 with total page 300 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Questioning developments in human genetic research from the perspective of people with mental disabilities and their families, Reinders (ethics and mental disability, Vrije U., Amsterdam) argues that using terms such as disease and defect to describe conditions that genetic engineering might eliminate, may also be suggesting that disabled lives are deplorable and horrific. Focusing too narrowly on preventing disabled lives, he warns, is at odds with a commitment to including disabled people fully in society. Annotation copyrighted by Book News Inc., Portland, OR
