Book Review of Department of Defense Test Protocols for Combat Helmets

Download or read book Review of Department of Defense Test Protocols for Combat Helmets written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2014-03-31 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Combat helmets have evolved considerably over the years from those used in World War I to today's Advanced Combat Helmet. One of the key advances was the development of aramid fibers in the 1960s, which led to today's Kevlar-based helmets. The Department of Defense is continuing to invest in research to improve helmet performance, through better design and materials as well as better manufacturing processes. Review of the Department of Defense Test Protocols for Combat Helmets considers the technical issues relating to test protocols for military combat helmets. At the request of the DOD Director of Operational Test and Evaluation, this report evaluates the adequacy of the Advanced Combat Helmet test protocol for both first article testing and lot acceptance testing, including its use of the metrics of probability of no penetration and the upper tolerance limit (used to evaluate backface deformation). The report evaluates appropriate use of statistical techniques in gathering data; adequacy of current helmet testing procedures; procedures for the conduct of additional analysis of penetration and backface deformation data; and scope of characterization testing relative to the benefit of the information obtained.

Book Wehrmacht Combat Helmets 1933 45

Download or read book Wehrmacht Combat Helmets 1933 45 written by Brian C Bell and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2012-12-20 with total page 66 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The German Stahlhelm is perhaps the most recognizable image of World War II. Manufactured in its millions, it was used or copied by many countries. It is still one of the most collected relics of the war; but despite its relative availability, prices have reached levels that challenge collectors to protect themselves by acquiring in-depth knowledge. This book, by a collector of 30 years' standing, offers a detailed masterclass in the patterns, component parts and finishes of the combat helmets used by the German Army, Navy and Air Force. It is illustrated with a superb selection of rare period photos, colour photos of collected examples, and striking colour paintings.

Book REVIEW OF THE INDONESIAN DEFENCE TEST PROTOCOL FOR COMBAT HELMETS

Download or read book REVIEW OF THE INDONESIAN DEFENCE TEST PROTOCOL FOR COMBAT HELMETS written by Javier Mahsa Wirautama and published by An1mage. This book was released on 2020-02-15 with total page 38 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Indonesia, the governing department should have standard rules into the production of the combat helmet for the army and how manufacturing processes should consider on the material and the design shape in the future, such as lowering weight and adding mobility to the user. Ultimately, the suggestions made in this report can plausibly change on how the governing standards of Indonesian combat helmets for the army can move into the next level and finally can demonstrate a higher level of quality in many parts of the helmet design that has been examined and analysed with the support of academic research and testing protocols. Currently, the department needs to focus on the potential fragmentation in the future such as threats, especially brain injury from bullet effects or other ballistic threats. As a result, it is arguable that the army and the head office of production for combat helmets should concern on the operational testing and evaluation before making the decision to produce the proposed design of the helmet. This can, therefore, improve the design of the combat helmet for the army in Indonesia.

Book Manikin Measurements of the Noise Attenuation Provided by Flight Helmets

Download or read book Manikin Measurements of the Noise Attenuation Provided by Flight Helmets written by John R. Forstall and published by . This book was released on 1968 with total page 32 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Measurements of the noise attenuation provided by five flight helmets were obtained on a manikin head and compared with attenuation measurements obtained on human subjects according to the USASI Standard for Evaluating Real-Ear Attenuation at Threshold. The two sets of measurements were similar. The manikin method has certain advantages which should be considered in terms of the particular requirements of an evaluation program: (1) a helmet can be optimally fitted with little expenditure of time; (2) variability introduced by human factors is kept at a minimum; (3) high levels of noise can be used as the test stimulus; (4) visual and auditory monitoring of the attenuated noise provides the experimenter with a precise appraisal of the fit as adjustments are made; (5) manikin measurements are particularly useful in revealing improvements in attenuation resulting from minor modifications.
