Book excerpt: Makenna has a past she'd rather bury deep in her mind. Unfortunately, as the sole guardian for her five siblings, forgetting where they came from isn't possible. All she can hope for is to provide her loved ones the kind of untroubled childhood she'd always dreamed of and keep them far away from where she grew up. Friendships and relationships, especially the romantic variety, don't rank on her priority list. That is until she's introduced to a hot biker whose playful personality and mesmerizing smile would make any woman perk up and take notice, even one with more responsibilities than sense.Thunder has seen it all, done it all, and has no interest in the high maintenance, in-your-face, party girls. Give him a no-frills woman, like the diner's adorable new waitress, who doesn't play games rather than a scantily clad bimbo who manipulates men for sport. Makenna is precisely the kind of fun he needs to celebrate patching with the Hell's Handlers MC. Only he quickly discovers Makenna is a package deal with more baggage than a carefree guy like him can handle. With each passing day, Thunder finds himself increasingly drawn to Makenna despite her mountain of responsibilities and his distrust of relationships. Even crazier is how some of her siblings are working their way under his skin and into his heart, as is Makenna. Just as Thunder starts thinking about dates and promises, the CDMC roars back into his life. They're responsible for his beloved club brother's death, and he wants nothing more than to make them suffer. When the threats start coming, and Makenna finds herself caught in the crossfire, Thunder will discover exactly the kind of man he is, and how far he's willing to go to keep Makenna and her siblings in his life.

Channeling the turbulent period of the Vietnam War and its ruthless pitting of ideologies, cultures, generations, and races against each other, military historian and acclaimed fantasy writer Chris Evans takes a daring new approach to the traditional world of sword and sorcery by thrusting it into a maelstrom of racial animus, drug use, rebellion, and a growing war that seems at once unwinnable and with no end in sight. In this thrilling epic, right and wrong, country and honor, freedom and sacrifice are all put to the ultimate test in the heart of a dark, bloody, otherworldly jungle. In this strange, new world deep among the shadows under a triple-canopy jungle and plagued by dangers real and imagined, soldiers strive to fulfill a mission they don't understand and are ill-equipped to carry out. And high above them, the heavy rush of wings slashing through the humid air herald a coming wave of death and destruction, and just possibly, salvation"--

Book Sound effects

    Book Details:
  • Author : Laura Jayne Wright
  • Publisher : Manchester University Press
  • Release : 2023-06-27
  • ISBN : 1526159171
  • Pages : 166 pages

Download or read book Sound effects written by Laura Jayne Wright and published by Manchester University Press. This book was released on 2023-06-27 with total page 166 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book shows that the sounds of the early modern stage do not only signify but are also significant. Sounds are weighted with meaning, offering a complex system of allusions. Playwrights such as Jonson and Shakespeare developed increasingly experimental soundscapes, from the storms of King Lear (1605) and Pericles (1607) to the explosive laboratory of The Alchemist (1610). Yet, sound is dependent on the subjectivity of listeners; this book is conscious of the complex relationship between sound as made and sound as heard. Sound effects should not resound from scene to scene without examination, any more than a pun can be reshaped in dialogue without acknowledgement of its shifting connotations. This book listens to sound as a rhetorical device, able to penetrate the ears and persuade the mind, to influence and to affect.
