Book A Study of Band Edge Distortion in Heavily Doped Germanium

Download or read book A Study of Band Edge Distortion in Heavily Doped Germanium written by Freeman D. Shepherd (Jr.) and published by . This book was released on 1965 with total page 98 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Details of the energy band structure of degenerate n-type germanium were determined by analysis of fine structure in the 4.2K volt-ampere characteristic of germanium tunnel diodes. No shift in the relative energy of the conduction band minima was observed. The band edge is found to be exponentially distributed with 1/e energies of the order of 10 MeV. There appears to be an ordering mechanism among the group V impurity atoms used as substrate dopants. (Author).

Book Ferrous Ammonium Sulfate Cupric Chloride Solutions for Dosimetry of a Kilocurie Cobalt 60 Source

Download or read book Ferrous Ammonium Sulfate Cupric Chloride Solutions for Dosimetry of a Kilocurie Cobalt 60 Source written by E. A. Burke and published by . This book was released on 1965 with total page 26 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Aqueous solutions of ferrous ammonium sulfate with cupric chloride were studied as a means for determining the uniformity of the dose rate around a multikilocurie cylindrical array of cobalt-60. Ferric ion was measured spectrophotometrically at 305 millimicrons. The solution selected to satisfy the requirements for dosimetry contained 0.0005 M ferrous ammonium sulfate and 0.005 M cupric chloride in 0.001 N sulfuric acid. Spectrophotometric measurements of ferric ion were made in solutions brought to 0.15 N acid concentration, instead of the conventional 0.8 N, in order to minimize spurious oxidation. The molar extinction coefficient at this normality proved to be the same as that in 0.8 N solutions. The G value, as compared to the standard ferrous-ferric dosimeter, was 0.65. Using these solutions, no detectable variation in dose rate was found at symmetrically equivalent positions at the center of the cobalt-60 source. The average dose rate at each end of the cylindrical array proved to be 12 percent lower than that at the center. The dose rate was also less uniform at the ends, varying by = 4 percent from point-to-point. At a distance of fifteen inches from the center of the source array, the dose rate decreased as the square of the distance. (Author).

Book A Method for Estimating Atmospheric Noise Amplitudes and Phase Errors in Quenched High Q Receiving Circuits

Download or read book A Method for Estimating Atmospheric Noise Amplitudes and Phase Errors in Quenched High Q Receiving Circuits written by E. A. Lewis and published by . This book was released on 1965 with total page 50 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Very narrow-band quenched filters used for studying VLF radio signals differ from conventional narrow-band circuits in that both signal and atmospheric noise impulses cause only brief quasi-sinusoidal outputs instead of a prolonged ringing. The random overlapping of these short noise and signal bursts can cause errors in phase measurements. It is shown that the distribution of phase errors can be calculated from the amplitude distribution of the output noise envelope. The properties of the phase distribution are discussed in detail, the computation required in the general case is illustrated by means of a numerical example. A simple 'time-sequential' method for experimentally obtaining typical amplitude distributions is suggested. (Author).

Book Effects of Experimental Parameters on Thermoluminescence of a Type II a Diamond

Download or read book Effects of Experimental Parameters on Thermoluminescence of a Type II a Diamond written by Albert D. Johnson and published by . This book was released on 1965 with total page 42 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Thermoluminescence provides a method for studying properties of those crystalline imperfections which behave as electron traps and recombination centers in wide bandgap materials. This approach, however, has been used relatively little, possibly due to the fact that the shapes and intensities of thermoluminescent glow curves are functions of several experimental parameters and are often complicated by the overlapping of a number of individual glow peaks. In the present work, experimental parameters were isolated and some of their effects on thermoluminescent glow curves were analyzed. This yielded information on activation energies associated with trapping levels, the nature of the kinetics involved in electron transitions, and electron retrapping. A Type II-a diamond, which has a wide distribution of thermoluminescent glow peaks, was used in this work. (Author).

Book State Logic Relations in an Iterative Structure for Autonomous Sequential Machine

Download or read book State Logic Relations in an Iterative Structure for Autonomous Sequential Machine written by William F. King (III) and published by . This book was released on 1965 with total page 30 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The state-logic relations are determined in an iterative structure for any autonomous sequential machine. A model (unlike that of Mealy) is used in which delay is distributed throughout the machine. Theorems are presented which prescribe the interconnection of identical elements to realize any autonomous sequential behavior. Synthesis, as described here, yields a more costly machine in terms of delay elements than those of previous workers. In addition to the iterative structure, increased speed of operation is the advantage bought by the extra delay elements.

Book Optimum Binary FSK for Transmitted Reference Systems Over Rayleigh Fading Channels

Download or read book Optimum Binary FSK for Transmitted Reference Systems Over Rayleigh Fading Channels written by Neil J. Bershad and published by . This book was released on 1965 with total page 32 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is well known that in communicating over randomly time-varying channels, a receiver which performs a channel measurement can make a better decision than one that does not. It is shown that a channel-measuring system improves system performance even when the channel characteristics are fixed only during the present message interval. The randomly time-varying channel studied is that of a Rayleigh fading medium with independently fading mark and space channels whose fading is fixed over one baud interval but is independent from baud to baud. The transmission system is a modified frequency shift keying (FSK) system such that during a portion of a baud interval the mark and space frequencies are always transmitted so as to act as reference signals. For the above system, the following characteristics have been established: (a) Optimum receiver configuration, (b) Optimum ratio alpha of information energy to total signal energy as a function of total available signal-to-noise ratio for a single fading channel, (c) Asymptotic optimum alpha for an M-diversity channel, (d) Error probabilities for (b) and asymptotic error probabilities for (c) for alpha opt as a function of total signal-to-noise ratio. The asymptotic results show that by using reference techniques the order of diversity is effectively doubled. (Author).
