Download or read book The I W W written by Paul Frederick Brissenden and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 1920 with total page 454 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: No very extensive changes are made in the new edition. The chart of early radical labor organizations, which appeared in the first edition as Appendix I, has been omitted in this edition. There is reproduced in its place a copy of the original industrial organization chart prepared by "Father" T. J. Hagerty at the time of the launching of the I. W. W. in 1905 and sometimes referred to as "Father Hagerty's Wheel of Fortune". This chart is believed to be of some importance as illustrating the earlier ideas of the revolutionary industrial unionists on industrial organization in relation to union structure. It has been considerably amplified by W. E. Trautmann and published in his pamphlet One Great Union, and still further developed by James Robertson who has very recently built extensions upon it in furtherance of the shop-steward propaganda in the Pacific Northwest. His version is published in a pamphlet entitled Labor unionism and the American shop steward system (Portland, Oreg., 1919).

Book excerpt: "The Cullman Democrat was established about 25 years after the first newspaper to publish in the town named for the famous German settler, John G. Cullman. While it came relatively late on the scene, its circulation soon grew to match that of the most successful Alabama weekly newspapers. The Democrat was first published by Major W.F. Palmer in June of 1901. Palmer sold the paper to R.L. and J.E. Griffin in 1902, but by the end of January of 1903, the paper was purchased by Joseph Robert Rosson. The Democrat remained in control of the Rosson family for man years after."--Publisher's description.

Download or read book Newspaper Clippings from the Colbert County Alabama Leighton News 1894 1903 written by Robin Sterling and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2017-03-22 with total page 408 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The Leighton News was first established by Fred W. McCormack in 1890 as a small 5x8 sheet. It soon expanded to a traditional size but later suspended publication because the profit margin was too slim. No issues from that time were available for review. After a while, McCormack kept a promise to the people of Leighton and renewed publication of the News in 1894. Each issue was examined column by column with a view for capturing items of a genealogical interest such as reports of births, marriages, deaths, and obituaries. In addition, other clippings were transcribed having to do with the history of Colbert and Lawrence County, as well as the rest of the surrounding Tennessee Valley area."--Publisher's description

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Until the early twentieth century, teachers went abroad with assumptions of their own superiority. But by the mid-twentieth century, they became far more self-questioning about their social assumptions, their educational theories, and the complexity of their role in a foreign society. Drawing on extensive archives of teachers' letters and accounts, Zimmerman's narrative explores the teachers' shifting attitudes about their country and themselves, in a world that was more unexpected than they could have imagined.
