Book excerpt: Sometimes losing one love is the only way to learn how to fight for another. With her husband's dying breath, he promised to send Maddie an angel to heal her broken heart. So every day in the year since Wayne's tragic boating accident, she's been watching and waiting... Rescued from a storm at sea, Chase can't remember who he is or where he came from—so he travels from port to port, looking for clues to his past. A twist of fate sends him to the small Florida town of Sugar Bay, and Maddie’s sure her angel has arrived. Only Chase’s presence is anything but angelic. Not only is he pushing Maddie to break out of her family’s dysfunctional cocoon and see the truth about her marriage, he’s waking up parts of her she didn’t know even existed. A man without a past and identity shouldn’t fall for a waif of a woman, especially when the glimmers of memory he gets reveal a reckless sailor and a possible murder. And while he wants to protect her, he’s created a monster—because Maddie’s seeing this through. As Chase's shocking past and true identity begin to emerge, it leads Maddie to a disturbing mystery, unexpected danger—and the determination to fight for a love she knows can only be Heaven sent... Book Strangers and Pilgrims on Earth

Download or read book Strangers and Pilgrims on Earth written by Paul van Geest and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2011-11-25 with total page 936 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The title Strangers and Pilgrims on Earth (Hebrews 11:13) captures well the eschatological nature of the christology which has become so central in the theological enterprise of Prof. dr. Abraham van de Beek. At the occasion of his sixty-fifth birthday in October 2011, many of his former colleagues and students honour him in this Festschrift with a contribution to one of the themes that have been central to his theology: christology, theology of Israel, eschatology, theology of the church, creation theology, and freedom of religion. The volume opens with an article providing an overview of his theological development, one probing his deepest theological intentions, and with an up to date bibliography. Book Recognizing the Stranger

Download or read book Recognizing the Stranger written by Kasper Bro Larsen and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2008-04-30 with total page 279 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recognizing the Stranger is the first monographic study of recognition scenes and motifs in the Gospel of John. The recognition type-scene (anagnōrisis) was a common feature in ancient drama and narrative, highly valued by Aristotle as a touching moment of truth, e.g., in Oedipus’ tragic self-discovery and Odysseus’ happy homecoming. The book offers a reconstruction of the conventions of the genre and argues that it is one of the most recurrent and significant literary forms in the Gospel. When portraying Jesus as the divine stranger from heaven, the Gospel employs and transforms the formal and ideological structures of the type-scene in order to show how Jesus’ true identity can be recognized behind the half-mask of his human appearance.

Book Saved by Faith and Hospitality

Download or read book Saved by Faith and Hospitality written by Joshua W. Jipp and published by Wm. B. Eerdmans Publishing. This book was released on 2017 with total page 220 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Too few Christians today, says Joshua Jipp, understand hospitality to strangers and the marginalized as an essential part of the church's identity. In this book Jipp argues that God's relationship to his people is fundamentally an act of hospitality to strangers, and that divine and human hospitality together are thus at the very heart of Christian faith. Jipp first provides a thorough interpretation of the major biblical texts related to the practice of hospitality to strangers, considering especially how these texts portray Christ as the divine host who extends God's welcome to all people. Jipp then invites readers to consider how God's hospitality sets the pattern for human hospitality, offering suggestions on how the practice of welcoming strangers can guide the church in its engagement with current social challenges--immigration, incarceration, racism, and more.
