Book excerpt: Award winning author Woo Myung's Where You Become True Is The Place Of Truth is the 2014 winner of Eric Hoffer's Montaigne Medal for the most thought provoking book. From humble beginnings and the perpetual questions about life and existence, the answers to these questions only came to Teacher Woo Myung after he achieved Truth. He then realized that anyone can become Truth if they discarded their selves, and he began to ponder on the best method possible to teach others to also become Truth. “In order to teach people, there needed to be a method. I studied this question from the perspective of ordinary people.” Simple yet profound wisdom is the basis of this book and will awaken the reader to the steps that must be taken to find one's true self. Download or read book The Mathematics of the Heavens and the Earth written by Glen Van Brummelen and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2021-08-10 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Mathematics of the Heavens and the Earth is the first major history in English of the origins and early development of trigonometry. Glen Van Brummelen identifies the earliest known trigonometric precursors in ancient Egypt, Babylon, and Greece, and he examines the revolutionary discoveries of Hipparchus, the Greek astronomer believed to have been the first to make systematic use of trigonometry in the second century BC while studying the motions of the stars. The book traces trigonometry's development into a full-fledged mathematical discipline in India and Islam; explores its applications to such areas as geography and seafaring navigation in the European Middle Ages and Renaissance; and shows how trigonometry retained its ancient roots at the same time that it became an important part of the foundation of modern mathematics. The Mathematics of the Heavens and the Earth looks at the controversies as well, including disputes over whether Hipparchus was indeed the father of trigonometry, whether Indian trigonometry is original or derived from the Greeks, and the extent to which Western science is indebted to Islamic trigonometry and astronomy. The book also features extended excerpts of translations of original texts, and detailed yet accessible explanations of the mathematics in them. No other book on trigonometry offers the historical breadth, analytical depth, and coverage of non-Western mathematics that readers will find in The Mathematics of the Heavens and the Earth.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This series of HANDBOOKS OF LINGUISTICS AND COMMUNICATION SCIENCE is designed to illuminate a field which not only includes general linguistics and the study of linguistics as applied to specific languages, but also covers those more recent areas which have developed from the increasing body of research into the manifold forms of communicative action and interaction. For "classic" linguistics there appears to be a need for a review of the state of the art which will provide a reference base for the rapid advances in research undertaken from a variety of theoretical standpoints, while in the more recent branches of communication science the handbooks will give researchers both an overview and orientation. To attain these objectives, the series aims for a standard comparable to that of the leading handbooks in other disciplines, and to this end strives for comprehensiveness, theoretical explicitness, reliable documentation of data and findings, and up-to-date methodology. The editors, both of the series and of the individual volumes, and the individual contributors, are committed to this aim. The language of publication is English. The main aim of the series is to provide an appropriate account of the state of the art in the various areas of linguistics and communication science covered by each of the various handbooks; however no inflexible pre-set limits will is imposed on the scope of each volume. The series is open-ended, and can thus take account of further developments in the field. This conception, coupled with the necessity of allowing adequate time for each volume to be prepared with the necessary care, means that there is no set time-table for the publication of the whole series. Each volume is a self-contained work, complete in itself. The order in which the handbooks are published does not imply any rank ordering, but is determined by the way in which the series is organized; the editors of the whole series enlist a competent editor for each individual volume. Once the principal editor for a volume has been found, he or she then has a completely free hand in the choice of co-editors and contributors. The editors plan each volume independently of the others, being governed only by general formal principles. The series editors only intervene where questions of delineation between individual volumes are concerned. It is felt that this (modus operandi) is best suited to achieving the objectives of the series, namely to give a competent account of the present state of knowledge and of the perception of the problems in the area covered by each volume. Download or read book John s Gospel and the Formula Behind the Myth of Jesus written by Greg O'Shea and published by Australian Self Publishing Group. This book was released on 2016-01-01 with total page 508 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: John’s Gospel and the Formula behind the Myth of Jesus is about a set of ideas that largely dictated the form and content of John’s Gospel, and profoundly influenced the three Synoptic Gospels. Far from the simple narrative it seems to be, John’s Gospel is a highly complex work geared to the depiction of Jesus as a type of cosmic figure. To this end its author draws on astrology, the annual cycle of Jewish festivals, symbolism taken from the Qabalah, and a section of Genesis. The book examines clues that Qabalah and Hellenestic astrology were already in existence at the time of writing of Genesis. John’s Gospel and the Formula behind the Myth of Jesus also looks at evidence that the true nature of John's Gospel has been known for some time.

As Christians, and especially as Catholics, we face these questions on a daily basis, not only from the people we meet but also in our own hearts. Scripture provides the answer, for the Bible isn’t simply a collection of disjointed tales — it is the story of our salvation. In this Bible study, Fr. With his characteristic wisdom, he tackles tough topics and questions, including grace and free will, repentance and faith, the role of the sacraments, and the necessity of good works. Perfect for a parish small group study or for personal reflection, each of the six sessions in Saved: A Bible Study Guide for Catholics will help us begin to discover the infinite mystery of our salvation, deepening our relationship with the God who saves us.
