Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The inaugural Symposium on Turbulent Shear Flows was held at The Pennsylvania State University in 1977. Thereafter the locations for the biennial symposium have alternated between the USA and Europe. However, the ninth Symposium on Turbu lent Shear Flows was awarded to Japan in recognition of the strong support researchers of the Pacific Rim countries have given previous symposia. The University of Kyoto was the host institution and the meeting was held in the Inter national Conference Hall. The Local Arrangements Committee did a superb job scheduling traditional Japanese dinners and arranging visits to the many cultural treasures in the Kyoto region. The meeting attracted more than 260 offers of papers. Thirty-three sessions were scheduled to accommodate the 138 papers accepted for oral presentation. In addition a poster session was scheduled on each of the three days to accommodate a total of 42 poster presentations. From the presentations at the symposium 24 have been selected for inclusion in this volume. The authors of these papers have revised them taking into consideration comments made during their oral presentation and recommendations made by the Editors. Four subject areas are identified, namely closures and fundamentals, free flows, wall flows, and combustion and recirculating flows. Eminent authorities have prepared introductory articles fot each topic to put the individual contributions in context with each other and with related research.

Book Awakening and Sleep wake Cycle Across Development

Download or read book Awakening and Sleep wake Cycle Across Development written by Piero Salzarulo and published by John Benjamins Publishing. This book was released on 2002-01-01 with total page 298 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sleep and wakefulness undergo important changes with age. Awakening, a crucial event in the sleep-wake rhythm, is a transition implying complex physiological mechanisms. Its involvement in sleep disturbances is also well known. This collective volume is the first attempt to systematically approach awakening across development.A methodological section considers criteria to define awakening in a developmental perspective. Theoretical considerations on development of wakefulness and on its relation to consciousness are included and provide a vigorous impulse to go beyond present criteria and classifications. Age changes are the core of studies on development: a section of the book examines old and new data from preterm to infants up to children, underscoring the main turning points along this developmental path. As for other aspects of development, awakening and the sleep-wake cycle are also influenced by external factors, both physical and human. Several contributions deal with this topic, in particular focusing on the parent-infant interaction and the influences of culture. Clinical contexts offer an opportunity to show both quantitative and qualitative changes of awakening and arousals in different pathological conditions. Either partial changes of one physiological variable or global and massive changes can be observed. (Series B)

Book Air Cooling Technology for Electronic Equipment

Download or read book Air Cooling Technology for Electronic Equipment written by Sung Jin Kim and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2020-07-24 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Clear your bookcase of references containing bits and pieces of useful information and replace them with this thorough, single-volume guide to thermal analysis. Air Cooling Technology for Electronic Equipment is a helpful, practical resource that answers questions frequently asked by thermal and packaging engineers grappling with today's demand for increased thermal control in electronics. Superbly organized for quick reference, the book dedicates each chapter to answering fundamental questions, such as: What is the optimal spacing between the printed circuit boards? What is a good estimate of the heat transfer coefficient and the associate pressure drop for forced convection over package arrays? How are heat transfer and fluid flow characteristics in the entrance region different from those in the fully developed region? What is the effect of substrate conduction on convection cooling? The chapters, written by engineers and engineering educators who are experts in electronic cooling, are packed with details and present the latest developments in air cooling techniques and thermal design guidelines. They provide problem-solving analyses that are jargon-free, straightforward, and easy to understand. Air Cooling Technology for Electronic Equipment is a handy source of technical information for anyone who wants to get the most out of air cooling.
