Book Particles Bubbles And Drops Their Motion Heat And Mass Transfer

Download or read book Particles Bubbles And Drops Their Motion Heat And Mass Transfer written by Stathis Efstathios E Michaelides and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2006-04-24 with total page 425 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The field of multiphase flows has grown by leaps and bounds in the last thirty years and is now regarded as a major discipline. Engineering applications, products and processes with particles, bubbles and drops have consistently grown in number and importance. An increasing number of conferences, scientific fora and archived journals are dedicated to the dissemination of information on flow, heat and mass transfer of fluids with particles, bubbles and drops. Numerical computations and “thought experiments” have supplemented most physical experiments and a great deal of the product design and testing processes. The literature on computational fluid dynamics with particles, bubbles and drops has grown at an exponential rate, giving rise to new results, theories and better understanding of the transport processes with particles, bubbles and drops. This book captures and summarizes all these advances in a unified, succinct and pedagogical way.

Book Effect of Large amplitude Oscillations on Heat Transfer

Download or read book Effect of Large amplitude Oscillations on Heat Transfer written by Charles E. Feiler and published by . This book was released on 1962 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The heat transfer from a heated flat plate to an airstream having large amplitude flow oscillations was studied. The oscillation frequency was varied from 34 to 680 cps. The root-mean-square oscillation amplitude was as much as 65 percent of the mean flow rate. In the presence of oscillations, the heat-transfer coefficient was increased by as much as 65 percent when compared with the coefficient at the same mean flow rate in the absence of oscillations.

Book Oscillatory Flow Mechanism for Enhanced Heat Transfer

Download or read book Oscillatory Flow Mechanism for Enhanced Heat Transfer written by Sultan Taher Raml and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page 136 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This research project is about the use of an oscillatory flow mechanism to enhance heat transfer. The idea behind this is to induce oscillation of the end wall of one of two connected chambers of a heat exchanger which effectively will induce oscillation of the boundary layer within the connecting duct. The main idea of this thesis came from using species separation studies before 40 years ago in hyperventilation technology to help patients under anesthesia in hospitals. There are many applications for this research such as removing heat from chemical reactors, electrical devices and other enclosed environments such as submarines, underground facilities and so forth. Many parameters can be varied to maximize the convective heat transfer. These parameters include the amplitude and frequency of oscillation, as well as duct radius and length. In this thesis, results from three-dimensional time-accurate studies carried out using computational fluid dynamics are presented. These results simulate the diffusion and convection of energy in air. The model consists of two chambers with inlets at two different temperatures, an oscillation piston wall on one of these chambers, and a connecting tube. Several cases are carried out reporting on heat transfer enhancement as a function of the tidal displacement to connecting tube diameter. Unlike previous studies which were undertaken using asymptotic analysis, the present models and results incorporate full entrance effects and 3D interactions. Results of this study will be useful as a guide for the design and miniaturization of an oscillating device for enhanced heat transfer in further research projects. Simulations were performed to analyze the effect of oscillations on the heat transfer. A simulation was first carried out in steady-state to serve as the baseline for comparison with time-accurate oscillating results. The remaining simulations consist of altering the frequency and tidal displacement of the moving wall to analyze their effect on the heat transfer between the two chambers. The results suggest that the heat transfer is enhanced as a function of the frequency and tidal displacement of the moving wall and that there should be an optimal point. Results are presented in the form of contour and vector plots of the temperature and velocity fields as well as plots of the heat exchanger outlet temperatures as a function of frequency and displacement.

Book Advanced Drying Technologies for Foods

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The goal of all drying research and development is to develop cost-effective innovative processes that yield high-quality dried products with less energy consumption and reduced environmental impact. With the literature on drying widely scattered, Advanced Drying Technologies for Foods compiles under one cover concise, authoritative, up-to-date assessments of modern drying technologies applied to foods. This book assembles a number of internationally recognized experts to provide critical reviews of advanced drying technologies, their merits and limitations, application areas and research opportunities for further development. Features: Provides critical reviews of advanced drying technologies Discusses the merits and limitations of a variety of food drying technologies Explains drying kinetics, energy consumption and quality of food products Reviews the principles and recent applications of superheated steam drying The first four chapters deal with recent developments in field-assisted drying technologies. These include drying techniques with the utilization of electromagnetic fields to deliver energy required for drying, for example, microwave drying, radio frequency drying, electrohydrodynamic drying, and infrared radiation drying. The remainder of this book covers a wide assortment of recently developed technologies, which include pulse drying, swell drying, impinging stream drying, and selected advances in spray drying. The final chapter includes some innovative technologies which are gaining ground and are covered in depth in a number of review articles and handbooks, and hence covered briefly in the interest completeness. This book is a valuable reference work for researchers in academia as well as industry and will encourage further research and development and innovations in food drying technologies.
