Book Heat Transfer in a Rarefied Gas Between Parallel Plates at Large Temperature Ratios

Download or read book Heat Transfer in a Rarefied Gas Between Parallel Plates at Large Temperature Ratios written by D. R. Willis and published by . This book was released on 1962 with total page 56 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Using a relaxation type model to describe the intermolecular collisions, the problem is reduced to the solution of two coupled non-linear integral equations for the density and temperature of the gas. An analytic solution of these equations is obtained for the limiting case of very high plate temperature ratio. Numerical results are obtained for several temperaature ratios, the lowest being 4 to 1, and for a state of rarefaction varying from free molecular to the transition regime. The numerical results are compared with results of a moment method, using four moments, and a first iterate method. The results of this moment method are found to be insufficiently sensitive to variations in the plate temperature ratio. Through use of a modified rarefaction parameter the numerical results for temperature ratios of 16 and 4 to 1 correlate quite well with the results of linearized analyses using more than four moments. Book Heat Transfer in a Gas Mixture Between Two Parallel Plates Finite difference Analysis of the Boltzmann Equation

Download or read book Heat Transfer in a Gas Mixture Between Two Parallel Plates Finite difference Analysis of the Boltzmann Equation written by and published by . This book was released on 2000 with total page 9 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The problem of heat transfer and temperature distribution in a binary mixture of rarefied gases between two parallel plates with different temperatures is investigated on the basis of kinetic theory. Under the assumption that the gas molecules are hard spheres and undergo diffuse reflection on the plates, the Boltzmann equation is analyzed numerically by means of an accurate finite-difference method, in which the complicated nonlinear collision integrals are computed efficiently by the deterministic numerical kernel method. As a result, the overall quantities (the heat flow in the mixture, etc.) as well as the profiles of the macroscopic quantities (the molecular number densities of the individual components, the temperature of the total mixture, etc.) are obtained accurately for a wide range of the Knudsen number. At the same time, the behavior of the velocity distribution function is clarified with high accuracy.

Book Heat Transfer and Density Distribution Measurements Between Parallel Plates in the Transition Regime

Download or read book Heat Transfer and Density Distribution Measurements Between Parallel Plates in the Transition Regime written by William Peter Teagan and published by . This book was released on 1967 with total page 27 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The heat conduction and density distributions were experimentally determined for rarefied gases at rest contained between two unequally heated parallel plates. Both argon and nitrogen were used as test gases. Particular attention was focused on obtaining measurements in the transition regime where the ratio of plate spacing to mean free path was between 1 and 20. The gas density distribution was measured by observing the luminescence produced by a high energy electron beam traversed between the plates. The experimental results for argon were compared with the analytical results of Wang Chang and Uhlenbeck, Gross and Ziering, and Lees. In computing these results the thermal accommodation coefficient measured in the free molecule regime was used with the assumption that its value remained constant over the entire pressure range. The average agreement between the heat conduction data and the results of the four moment methods of Lees and Gross-Ziering was about 2%, while the measured density profiles agreed with the results of these analyses within 3%. Both the heat conduction and density distribution data differ by approx. 10-20% from the results of Gross-Ziering's eight-moment method. (Author).

Download or read book Rarefied Gas Dynamics written by Carlo Cercignani and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2000-02-28 with total page 348 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The aim of this book is to present the concepts, methods and applications of kinetic theory to rarefied gas dynamics. After introducing the basic tools, problems in plane geometry are treated using approximation techniques (perturbation and numerical methods). These same techniques are later used to deal with two- and three-dimensional problems. The models include not only monatomic but also polyatomic gases, mixtures, chemical reactions. A special chapter is devoted to evaporation and condensation phenomena. Each section is accompanied by problems which are mainly intended to demonstrate the use of the material in the text and to outline additional subjects, results and equations. This will help ensure that the book can be used for a range of graduate courses in aerospace engineering or applied mathematics.

Book Direct Methods for Solving the Boltzmann Equation and Study of Nonequilibrium Flows

Download or read book Direct Methods for Solving the Boltzmann Equation and Study of Nonequilibrium Flows written by V.V. Aristov and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 305 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is concerned with the methods of solving the nonlinear Boltz mann equation and of investigating its possibilities for describing some aerodynamic and physical problems. This monograph is a sequel to the book 'Numerical direct solutions of the kinetic Boltzmann equation' (in Russian) which was written with F. G. Tcheremissine and published by the Computing Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences some years ago. The main purposes of these two books are almost similar, namely, the study of nonequilibrium gas flows on the basis of direct integration of the kinetic equations. Nevertheless, there are some new aspects in the way this topic is treated in the present monograph. In particular, attention is paid to the advantages of the Boltzmann equation as a tool for considering nonequi librium, nonlinear processes. New fields of application of the Boltzmann equation are also described. Solutions of some problems are obtained with higher accuracy. Numerical procedures, such as parallel computing, are in vestigated for the first time. The structure and the contents of the present book have some com mon features with the monograph mentioned above, although there are new issues concerning the mathematical apparatus developed so that the Boltzmann equation can be applied for new physical problems. Because of this some chapters have been rewritten and checked again and some new chapters have been added.
