Book HEAT CAPACITY OF LINEAR HIGH POLYMERS

Download or read book HEAT CAPACITY OF LINEAR HIGH POLYMERS written by Bernhard Wunderlich and published by . This book was released on 1968 with total page 182 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: All available data on heat capacities of linear high polymers have been critically reviewed and discussed in terms of the vibrational frequency spectrum. Several characteristic temperature regions could be delineated. Below 50K the heat capacity is conformation, crystallinity, and defect dependent. For crystalline polymer a T3 temperature dependence is generally found below 10K. Above 50K up to the glass transition temperature the heat capacity is largely independent of conformation crystallinity and defects. The absolute value of the heat capacity is largely additive from contributions of the chain atoms. The increase of heat capacity at the glass transition temperature of amorphous polymers is constant if calculated per mole of 'mobile bead.' Between the glass transition and melting transition of semicrystalline polymers uncertainties arise due to instabilities of the metastable crystals. Melting behavior has been briefly reviewed. The heat capacities of the melt have been discussed where available. Only for polyethylene could a detailed interpretation be given. (Author).

This book is organized into four chapters: structure of macromolecules, microscopic structure of crystals, crystal morphology, and defect crystal. This publication specifically discusses the macromolecular hypothesis, molecular conformation, and synthesis of macromolecules. The discovery and proof of the lattice theory, structures of minimum free energy, and crystal structures of macromolecules are also deliberated. This publication likewise covers the macromolecular crystals, macroscopic recognition of defects, and deformation of polymer crystals. This volume is a good reference for physicists, scientists, and specialists concerned with research on crystals of linear macromolecules.

Download or read book Macromolecular Physics written by Bernhard Wunderlich and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 381 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This third volume completes the first part of the project " Macromolecular Physics." The first volume dealt with the description of macromolecular crystals; the second volume dealt with crystal growth; and the third volume summarizes our knowledge of the melting of linear, flexible macromolecules. The discussion in the three volumes goes from reasonably well-established topics, such as the structure, morphology, and defects in crystals, to topics still in flux, such as crystal nucleation, detailed growth mechanisms, and annealing processes, to arrive at the present topics of equilibrium, nonequilibrium, and copolymer melting. Our knowledge is quite limited on many aspects of these latter topics.

Book Thermodynamic and Kinetic Aspects of the Vitreous State

Download or read book Thermodynamic and Kinetic Aspects of the Vitreous State written by S.V. Nemilov and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-01-18 with total page 166 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first book to logically present the major problems of the vitreous state within the framework of irreversible thermodynamics. Filled with elementary explanations for difficult problems, this easily understood text/reference treats in detail the criteria of glass transition, the peculiarities of relaxing structural parameters, and the Prigogine-Defay ratio. Based on the author's rigorous generalization of the Second Law for non-equilibrium, the book systematizes all known thermodynamic data for glasses and melts. The thermodynamic essence of structural relaxation and memory effects are considered. The viscous flow theories are treated as a constituent of the kinetic description. All theoretical questions are illustrated by comparison of calculations with the experiments for glasses of inorganic and organic nature, with special attention to structural classification. An informative review of modern structural investigations is included. The bibliography follows the history of the main problems from the nineteenth century.

Book An Introduction to Plastics

Download or read book An Introduction to Plastics written by Hans-Georg Elias and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2003-11-07 with total page 420 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This second edition of An Introduction to Plastics is the answer to manifold requests for an updated version by the readership. Since publication of the first edition in 1993, the field of plastics has seen tremendous development. Their manufacture and properties are discussed and correlated to the molecular and supermolecular properties of polymers. The contents have been thoroughly revised, restructured and enlarged. Several topics such as polymer composites and mixtures, morphology, flow properties and processing have been given more space, and chapters on electrical conductivity and non-linear optical properties have been newly added. Reviews of the first edition: "This book presents a precise, yet non-mathematical introduction to plastics, their raw materials, syntheses, properties and applications." (B. Sillion, Revue de l'Institut Francais du Pétrole) "The volume is excellently written, with a simple, straightforward and comprehensive index. It provides an overview of all plastics, including raw materials: manufacture, structure, processing, properties and, of course, applications" (D.W. Taylor and J.F. Kennedy, Polymer International) "This book has all the earmarks of becoming a guide to or even a reference book for polymers in structural applications" (Willi Kreuder, Acta Polymerica)

Download or read book Macromolecules 1 written by H.G. Elias and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 554 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The second edition of this textbook is identical with its fourth German edi tion and it thus has the same goals: precise definition of basic phenomena, a broad survey of the whole field, integrated representation of chemistry, physics, and technology, and a balanced treatment of facts and comprehen sion. The book thus intends to bridge the gap between the often oversimpli fied introductory textbooks and the highly specialized texts and monographs that cover only parts of macromolecular science. The text intends to survey the whole field of macromolecular science. Its organization results from the following considerations. The chemical structure of macromolecular compounds should be inde pendent of the method of synthesis, at least in the ideal case. Part I is thus concerned with the chemical and physical structure of polymers. Properties depend on structure. Solution properties are thus discussed in Part 11, solid state properties in Part Ill. There are other reasons for dis cussing properties before synthesis: For example, it is difficult to understand equilibrium polymerization without knowledge of solution thermodynamics, the gel effect without knowledge of the glass transition temperature, etc. Part IV treats the principles of macromolecular syntheses and reactions.
