Book Heat and Mass Transfer in Particulate Suspensions

Download or read book Heat and Mass Transfer in Particulate Suspensions written by Efstathios E (Stathis) Michaelides and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-01-04 with total page 177 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Heat and Mass Transfer in Particulate Suspensions is a critical review of the subject of heat and mass transfer related to particulate Suspensions, which include both fluid-particles and fluid-droplet Suspensions. Fundamentals, recent advances and industrial applications are examined. The subject of particulate heat and mass transfer is currently driven by two significant applications: energy transformations –primarily combustion – and heat transfer equipment. The first includes particle and droplet combustion processes in engineering Suspensions as diverse as the Fluidized Bed Reactors (FBR’s) and Internal Combustion Engines (ICE’s). On the heat transfer side, cooling with nanofluids, which include nanoparticles, has attracted a great deal of attention in the last decade both from the fundamental and the applied side and has produced several scientific publications. A monograph that combines the fundamentals of heat transfer with particulates as well as the modern applications of the subject would be welcomed by both academia and industry.

Book Chemical Reactor Design and Technology

Download or read book Chemical Reactor Design and Technology written by Hugo de Lasa and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 839 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Today's frustrations and anxieties resulting from two energy crises in only one decade, show us the problems and fragility of a world built on high energy consumption, accustomed to the use of cheap non-renewable energy and to the acceptance of eXisting imbalances between the resources and demands of countries. Despite all these stressing factors, our world is still hesitatins about the urgency of undertaking new and decisive research that could stabilize our future, Could this trend change in the near future? In our view, two different scenarios are possible. A renewed energy tension could take place with an unpredictable timing mostly related to political and economic factors, This could bring again scientists and technologists to a new state of shock and awaken our talents, A second interesting and beneficial scenario could result from the positive influence of a new generation of researchers that with or without immediate crisis, acting both in industry and academia, will face the challenge of developing technologies and processes to pave the way to a less vulnerable society, Because Chemical Reactor Design and Technology activities are at the heart of these required new technologies the timeliness of the NATO-Advanced Study Institute at the University of Western Ontario, London, was very appropriate.

Book Packed Bed Columns

Download or read book Packed Bed Columns written by Nikolai Kolev and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2006-08-08 with total page 709 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Packed bed columns are largely employed for absorption, desorption, rectification and direct heat transfer processes in chemical and food industry, environmental protection and also processes in thermal power stations like water purification, flue gas heat utilization and SO2 removal. These Separation processes, are estimated to account for 40%-70% of capital and operating costs in process industry. Packed bed columns are widely employed in this area. Their usage also for direct heat transfer between gas and liquid, enlarge their importance. They are the best apparatuses, from thermodynamical point of view, for mass and heat transfer processes between gas and liquid phase. Their wide spreading is due to low capital investments and operating costs. Since 1995 there has not been published a specialised book in this area, and this is a period of quick development of packed columns. Packed Bed Columns reflects the state of this field including the author's experience on creating and investigating of new packings, column internals and industrial columns. - Considers the theories of mass transfer processes and shows how they help the construction of highly effective packings - Complete information about the performance characteristics of different modern types of highly effective packings - Considers the models for calculation and areas of their application

Book Heat and Mass Transfer During Cooling and Storage of Agricultural Products as Influenced by Natural Convection

Download or read book Heat and Mass Transfer During Cooling and Storage of Agricultural Products as Influenced by Natural Convection written by K. J. Beukema and published by Bernan Press(PA). This book was released on 1980 with total page 180 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Three different models of bulk-stored agricultural products with air flow through the bulk, predicting the temperature profiles or the velocity of natural convection, are developed. The temperature distribution in a cylindrical container with insulated walls and open top and bottom, filled with heat-generating model material is studied experimentally, used to calculate the velocity of natural convection and compared with model predictions. A two-dimensional two-phase model of temperature and moisture distribution during cooling and storage of agricultural products in a cylindrical container is developed. The influence of convective transport (natural and forced convection), heat generation, heat conduction, evaporation, condensation and moisture diffusion is incorporated in the model equations. A sensitivity analyses with this model is presented. The model calculations are compared with the measured temperature course during self-heating of potatoes or model material. Three-dimensional natural convection in a closed container filled with heat-generating products is modelled with a three-dimensional one-phase model. Temperature measurements in a rectangular container filled with model material, potatoes or Brussels sprouts are discussed and compared with the model calculations. Literature on natural convection in porous media with or without heat generation and on models of bulk-stored agricultural products is reviewed.
