Book excerpt: My chosen name is Balticbard. I am an artist, writer, and poet. This is my book of poems: Heartsongs. From a very young age, I lived within myself; in a magical world of my own making. I filled my magic world with stories of Edgar Allen Poe, 19th century romantic poetry, Greek myth, horror movies, Arthurian legends, bible stories, sitcoms from the sixties, pre-Raphealite painting, surrealism, Jesus Christ, music from the sixties, and old stories, and legends from the old country that my mother, and grandmother told me as I was growing up. In time I encountered the greatest blessing that my wondrous God has given me; the pagans. It was the pagan source that helped me unlock the door to my world of magic, which I had thought lost to me. I finally found my inner source, and my words of magic came forth in my poetry. So finally I say thanks to my God, and to all my pagan friends for my inspiration. -Balticbard

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Heather Webb studies medieval notions of the heart to explore the "lost circulations" of an era when individual lives and bodies were defined by their extensions into the world rather than as self-perpetuating, self-limited entities. Drawing from the works of Dante, Catherine of Siena, Boccaccio, Aquinas, and Cavalcanti and other literary, philosophic, and scientific texts, she reveals medieval answers to such fundamental questions as: Where is life located? What does it consist of? Where does it begin? And how does it end? Against the modern idea of the isolated self, the medieval heart provides a model for rethinking the body's relationship to the world it inhabits.

Book Into Your Child s Heart

Download or read book Into Your Child s Heart written by Agnes Lui and published by Balboa Press. This book was released on 2019-11-29 with total page 174 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Being a parent is a complex role, where many points of the past, present and future cross. We parents have our past and are in the present with our children, but it is they who hold the future. Living with them every day for almost twenty years, we transmit our subconscious emotional history and beliefs to them. Through their intuitive openness, our children absorb our unspoken language of what love is or is not. What we share intimately with them, good and bad, they take into the future. Our children become the children we have been and pass on their history to the next generation. This is my story. I turn toward the light, and heaven gives me insight beyond my imagination. “Into Your Child’s Heart is not only a gem of a book, it is a spiritual journey. Agnes Lui takes us from the challenges of being a sensitive and gentle parent into our own hearts. She reflects on her own personal history, her family of origin and her mix of Chinese and western culture. Spirit guides come forward to help her. From the precious family relation, that of parent and child, Agnes Lui takes us into the troubled world we all face today. “Into Your Child’s Heart becomes a deeply meaningful meditation, a prayer for world harmony on every level of being. We breathe with this author every step of the way in this thoughtful, reflective and beautiful book.” ~Kathleen Spivack Unspeakable Things, With Robert Lowell and His Circle “Agnes Lui is a thoughtful spiritual seeker with a big heart. She has found wisdom through being a social worker and parent, through interactions with a wise spiritual teacher, and through dealing with difficulties with her family of origin. She shares that wisdom with us—and we certainly need it—and relates individual pain to the pain the whole world is in.” ~Lawrence Kessenich Cinnamon Girl, Age of Wonder, Before Whose Glory, Pearl

Book excerpt: The moving tribute to the young man Oprah Winfrey called "an inspiration"-told by the woman who raised him. Mattie Stepanek's Heartsongs books were a phenomenon. Not only did they hit the bestseller lists, but the books-and Mattie himself- were a source of inspiration to many, and brought him major recognition. Jimmy Carter described young Mattie Stepanek as "the most remarkable person I have ever known." In Messenger, Jeni Stepanek shares the inspiring story of her son's life. Mattie was born with a rare disorder called Dysautonomic Mitochondrial Myopathy, and Jeni was advised to institutionalize him. Instead, she nurtured a child who transformed his hardships into a worldwide message of peace and hope. Though Mattie suffered through his disease, his mother's disabilities, and the loss of his three older siblings, he never abandoned his positive spirit. His Heartsong- the word he used to describe a person's inner self-spread a philosophy that peace begins with an attitude and can spread to the entire world.
