Book excerpt: Discover a faith that goes beyond doubt and reveals how God continues to fulfill his promises today just as he did in biblical times, unlocking true purpose and fulfillment in our busy, modern lives. Where is the life God promised us? In the midst of our fast-paced schedules and endless distractions, we often push God to the background, struggling to believe that his promises are still relevant. He seems distant, and the abundant life Jesus spoke about doesn't seem possible. When we hear that God wants to give, say, and show us more, we assume it's just a rumor. But what if God really is calling us to something more--a life of deeper purpose, fulfillment, and peace today and right now? In Rumors of God, Jon Tyson and Darren Whitehead challenge us to reimagine what it means to live a life shaped by faith. They invite us to close the gap between the promises we've heard and the reality we experience, helping us see how God's presence and power are at work even in our modern, everyday lives. This book is more than a reminder--it's a call to rediscover a God who is active, present, and moving among us. For those feeling weary, jaded, or uncertain about how faith fits into today's world, Rumors of God offers a fresh perspective on God's timeless promises.

Download or read book The Dangerous Lives of Altar Boys written by Chris Fuhrman and published by University of Georgia Press. This book was released on 2010-09-15 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The basis for the film starring Kieran Culkin. “Evoked with the rare, genuine sort of candor that made Holden Caulfield—and J.D. Salinger—famous.”—Vogue Set in Savannah, Georgia, in the early 1970s, this is a novel of the anarchic joy of youth and encounters with the concerns of early adulthood. Francis Doyle, Tim Sullivan, and their three closest friends are altar boys at Blessed Heart Catholic Church and eighth-grade classmates at the parish school. They are also inveterate pranksters, artistic, and unimpressed by adult authority. When Sodom vs. Gomorrah ’74, their collaborative comic book depicting Blessed Heart’s nuns and priests gleefully breaking the seventh commandment, falls into the hands of the principal, the boys, certain that their parents will be informed, conspire to create an audacious diversion. Woven into the details of the boys’ preparations for the stunt are touching, hilarious renderings of the school day routine and the initiatory rites of male adolescence, from the first serious kiss to the first serious hangover. “Fuhrman takes wicked pleasure in scraping teen innocence against the graveled, perverse underbelly of suburban childhood.”—Newsday “The freshness of Fuhrman’s novel comes from his ability to squeeze out of a time of transition universal evocations of rebellion against growing up . . . Fuhrman provides his story and characters with enough originality to keep the narrative clipping along and his reader totally absorbed.”—Chicago Tribune “Heartbreaking yet hilarious . . . chronicles a school year in the life of narrator Francis Doyle, an eighth-grader at the parish school of the Blessed Heart . . . can be compared to many of the classic coming-of-age novels.”—Publishers Weekly
Download or read book American Philosophy written by John Kaag and published by Farrar, Straus and Giroux. This book was released on 2016-10-11 with total page 273 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The epic wisdom contained in a lost library helps the author turn his life around John Kaag is a dispirited young philosopher at sea in his marriage and his career when he stumbles upon West Wind, a ruin of an estate in the hinterlands of New Hampshire that belonged to the eminent Harvard philosopher William Ernest Hocking. Hocking was one of the last true giants of American philosophy and a direct intellectual descendent of William James, the father of American philosophy and psychology, with whom Kaag feels a deep kinship. It is James’s question “Is life worth living?” that guides this remarkable book. The books Kaag discovers in the Hocking library are crawling with insects and full of mold. But he resolves to restore them, as he immediately recognizes their importance. Not only does the library at West Wind contain handwritten notes from Whitman and inscriptions from Frost, but there are startlingly rare first editions of Hobbes, Descartes, and Kant. As Kaag begins to catalog and read through these priceless volumes, he embarks on a thrilling journey that leads him to the life-affirming tenets of American philosophy—self-reliance, pragmatism, and transcendence—and to a brilliant young Kantian who joins him in the restoration of the Hocking books. Part intellectual history, part memoir, American Philosophy is ultimately about love, freedom, and the role that wisdom can play in turning one’s life around.

Download or read book MYSTERY OF ALTARS written by ISAIAH MACWEALTH and published by GP Publisher. This book was released on with total page 445 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As we will see in this book, an altar is a technology for communicating and teleporting between two realms. It is a mystery that is replete all over the scriptures from Genesis to Revelation. Before the Law, the revelation of altars existed, and in the Law, altars existed. We also see altars in the New Testament, and even in the Book of Revelation. The revelation of altars is thus key to spiritual power, and this is why the people of the occult world and the kingdom of Satan do not joke with it. Unfortunately, the church that should be the custodian of the revelation of altars has since lost its principles. Churches now have stages instead of altars. This is sad. In the past, kings and other great leaders revered the church. It was the Queen of Scotland that said, 'I fear the prayers of John Knox more than all the assembled armies of Europe’. Where is the Lord God of Elijah who fought the prophets of Baal after repairing the altar of God? Where is the Lord God of Moses who brought Israel out of Egypt and parted the Red Sea. Where is the God of Joshua who caused time to stand still? As a church and as individuals, if we would see the power of God as of old, we must learn again the principle of altars. We must set our hearts to understand sacrifice, the blood of Jesus, and the power of prayer. We must understand how to set up an altar and learn how to shut and open portals in the realm of the spirit through the technology of altars. We must also learn how to legalize and criminalize altars, and how to furnish our altars with blood. We must not be ignorant of the impact of family altars and the altars through which we are attacked as the Body of Christ. We must align our heart altar with heaven's altar to bring heaven's power to the earth as only the power of God can do the work of God. In this book, I will share with you many deep secrets, many of which will be new to you. I advise you to take time to meditate and research for yourself. The Lord has trusted me with so much revelation for our day, and not only have I taught these, I have seen the results and testimonies abound. This is why in the appendix of this book, I have shared testimonies from some of the people who have practiced the revelation published in this book because the results cannot lie. I pray for you that as you read, you will receive insights by the power of the Holy Ghost. God bless you!
