Download or read book Healthy Aging Well Being and Sexuality at Menopause and Beyond written by Anna Ghizzani and published by novum publishing. This book was released on 2020-05-12 with total page 101 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Menopause is a time of challenge for every woman as it causes discomfort and confusion for those who have little information about the changes in their bodies, emotions and relationships, and how to deal with them. The book discusses the impact of hormone deprivation, the psychosocial and relational aspects of this time of life along with age-related conditions such as osteoporosis, mood changes, vasomotor and cardiovascular problems, cancer survival, and the pros and cons of treatments, such as hormone replacement therapy. Armed with valid and helpful information about the inevitable changes and how to take the best from them, the book gives women the key to aging positively. To close the circle on couple sexuality, it adds biological and clinical considerations on male sexuality.

It is animated by the central question: ‘“what new lines of inquiry are possible when we center our attention on menstrual health and politics across the life course?” The chapters—diverse in content, form and perspective—establish Critical Menstruation Studies as a potent lens that reveals, complicates and unpacks inequalities across biological, social, cultural and historical dimensions. This handbook is an unmatched resource for researchers, policy makers, practitioners, and activists new to and already familiar with the field as it rapidly develops and expands.

Book Sexuality and Aging

    Book Details:
  • Author : Jennifer Hillman
  • Publisher : Springer Science & Business Media
  • Release : 2012-03-27
  • ISBN : 1461433991
  • Pages : 323 pages

Download or read book Sexuality and Aging written by Jennifer Hillman and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-03-27 with total page 323 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Despite continuing ageist beliefs that sexuality is a privilege designed only for the young and physically healthy, research continues to indicate that the majority of older adults maintain interest in sexuality and may engage in fulfilling sexual behavior well into their last decade of life. Unfortunately, many professionals remain unaware of general knowledge of elderly sexuality, including the expected and normal physiological changes that can occur within the context of both male and female aging. The presence of chronic illness and other medical problems certainly can influence the expression of an aging adult’s sexuality, and emergent research suggests that there are effective ways to cope with menopause, heart disease, arthritis, incontinence, diabetes, sleep disorders, breast cancer, prostate cancer, and erectile dysfunction (ED), among others. Dramatic changes have taken place within the last decade alone in terms of non-surgical treatment for incontinence and ED, with forms of sex therapy, biofeedback, and PDE-5 inhibitors. Regrettably, many aging adults and their care providers remain unaware of their increased risk factors for STDs, including HIV infection via lack of knowledge, changes in the vaginal lining, and typical declines in immune function. Estimates suggest that by the year 2020, more than half of all individuals living with HIV will be over the age of 50. Although some high quality professional books are available for clinicians, they tend to be disjointed research bibliographies, edited volumes on a narrowly focused aspect of elderly sexuality, or texts that are more than 10 years old. With the extent of new information available regarding sexuality and aging, an up to date, empirically based text is necessary.

Book Challenges in Older Women s Health

Download or read book Challenges in Older Women s Health written by Heidi W. Brown and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-06-08 with total page 207 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The number of Americans 65 years of age or older is projected to more than double to over 98 million by 2060, making them 24% of the overall population. Women constitute more than 50% of this group. Most clinicians who provide primary care for older women receive minimal training about their unique health issues and needs during residency however, and few resources exist to guide them regarding these issues in practice. This book provides user-friendly, evidence-based guidance to manage common challenges in healthcare for women during menopause and beyond, filling a huge and growing unmet need for primary care clinicians. Edited by a multidisciplinary team with content expert authors from family medicine, oncology, urogynecology, obstetrics and gynecology, psychology, and more, this text provides clinically relevant information about important conditions impacting the health of older women, including suggested guidelines for management and helpful resources for patient counselling and care. The first half of the book covers general topics such as menopause, bone health, depression and grief, cancer survivorship, and obesity. The second half focuses on issues below the belt that are difficult to talk about, such as incontinence, vulvar pathology, and sexual health after menopause. While there is copious literature about the menopausal transition, few resources for clinicians exist about caring for women beyond the 6th decade. Challenges in Older Women’s Health: A primer for clinicians provides focused, evidence-based information about high-yield topics for a too often neglected group of patients.

Book Health and Wellbeing in Late Life

Download or read book Health and Wellbeing in Late Life written by Prasun Chatterjee and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2019-09-06 with total page 195 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This open access book takes a multidisciplinary approach to provide a holistic understanding of late old age, and situates the aged person within the context of family, caregivers, clinical and other institutions. All through the book, the author discusses preparedness for an aging individual as well as the society in the Indian context. The book highlights inevitable but mostly neglected health issues like depression, dementia, fall, and frailty and provides detailed analyses of solutions that are practicable in low resource settings. It also brings up intergenerational differences and harmony in the context of holistic care of older Indians. Alongside clinical perspectives, the book uses narratives of elderly patients to dwell on the myriad of problems and issues that constitute old age healthcare. Demonstrating cases that range from the most influential to the most underprivileged elderly in India, the book enlightens multiple caregivers—doctors, nurses, and professional caregivers as well as family members—about the dynamic approach required in dealing with complex issues related to late old age. The narratives make the book relatable and interesting to non-academic readers, with important lessons for gerontological and geriatric caregiving. It is also of use to older adults in preparing for active aging.

Book We wanted to be good people and everything turned out very differently

This book was released on 2024-03-18 with total page 359 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Every change that humans make to their environment, to animals and plants, is not without consequences for humans themselves - and these are often serious, manifesting themselves in an increase in diseases and a decimation of life in fields and forests, which in turn has repercussions for humans. A holistic approach to the world is therefore becoming increasingly necessary, a meta-perspective on all life - both human and animal. The book offers a look at the development of humans and their living and eating habits, coupled with practical tips, such as a series of recipes to help people find a healthy and conscious eating style - all of which is told in a way that is adapted to the course of the year.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "That's a special bra!" No woman wants to hear this sentence when her boyfriend sees her in her underwear for the first time. If you're in a relationship with someone who has an autism spectrum disorder, it's better to question social norms than to take them seriously anyway. Speaking of "norms", I'm not completely normal either, by the way, because: you can be crazy even without a diagnosis! So what is it like to be in a relationship with a man who ticks differently in many ways? And that while you actually have enough to do taming your own monkeys in your head? Honestly, it's refreshing, enriching and valuable, but also incredibly challenging and exhausting. Creativity and patience are just as important as a sense of humor and healthy self-esteem.
