Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This reference explores the sources, characteristics, bioeffects, and health hazards of extremely low-frequency (ELF) fields and radio frequency radiation (RFR), analyzing current research as well as the latest epidemiological studies to assess potential risks associated with exposure and to develop effective safety guidelines. Compiles reports and investigations from four decades of study on the effect of nonionizing electromagnetic fields and radiation on human health Summarizing modern engineering approaches to control exposure, Electromagnetic Fields and Radiation discusses: EM interaction mechanisms in biological systems Explorations into the impact of EM fields on free radicals, cells, tissues, organs, whole organisms, and the population Regulatory standards in the United States, Canada, Europe, and Asia Pacific Evaluation of incident fields from various EM sources Measurement surveys for various sites including power lines, substations, mobile systems, cellular base stations, broadcast antennas, traffic radar devices, heating equipment, and other sources Dosimetry techniques for the determination of internal EM fields Conclusions reached by the Food and Drug Administration, World Health Organization, and other institutions

Book Human Exposure to Electromagnetic Fields

Download or read book Human Exposure to Electromagnetic Fields written by Patrick Staebler and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2017-05-12 with total page 383 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Everyone, whether they like it or not, is exposed to electromagnetic fields, most of the time, at very low levels. In this case, they are inconsequential, but they can cause adverse health effects when they become intense enough. This topic is complex and sensitive. Covering frequencies from 0 Hz to 300 GHz, Human Exposure to Electromagnetic Fields provides an overview of this vast topic. After a reminder of the concepts of electromagnetic fields, the author presents some examples of sources of radiation in daily life and in the industrial or medical sectors. The biophysical and biological effects of these fields on the human body are detailed and the exposure limits are recalled. The exposure assessment and the implementation of the appropriate regulation within companies are also covered. Technically and practically, this book is aimed at people with a scientific background, risk prevention actors, health physicians, especially occupational doctors, and equipment designers.

Book Possible Health Effects of Exposure to Residential Electric and Magnetic Fields

Download or read book Possible Health Effects of Exposure to Residential Electric and Magnetic Fields written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 1997-03-18 with total page 379 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Can the electric and magnetic fields (EMF) to which people are routinely exposed cause health effects? This volume assesses the data and draws conclusions about the consequences of human exposure to EMF. The committee examines what is known about three kinds of health effects associated with EMF: cancer, primarily childhood leukemia; reproduction and development; and neurobiological effects. This book provides a detailed discussion of hazard identification, dose-response assessment, exposure assessment, and risk characterization for each. Possible Health Effects of Exposure to Residential Electric and Magnetic Fields also discusses the tools available to measure exposure, common types of exposures, and what is known about the effects of exposure. The committee looks at correlations between EMF exposure and carcinogenesis, mutagenesis, neurobehavioral effects, reproductive and developmental effects, effects on melatonin and other neurochemicals, and effects on bone healing and stimulated cell growth.

Book Extremely Low Frequency Fields

Download or read book Extremely Low Frequency Fields written by World Health Organization and published by Environmental Health Criteria. This book was released on 2007 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume addresses the possible health effects of exposure to extremely low frequency (ELF) electric and magnetic fields. It reviews the physical characteristics of ELF fields as well as the sources of exposure and measurement. However, its main objectives are to review the scientific literature on the biological effects of exposure to ELF fields in order to assess any health risks from exposure to these fields and to use this health risk assessment to make recommendations to national authorities on health protection programs. The frequencies under consideration range from above 0Hz to 100kHz.--Publisher's description.

Book Niehs Report on Health Effects from Exposure to Power Line Frequency Electric and Magnetic Fields

Download or read book Niehs Report on Health Effects from Exposure to Power Line Frequency Electric and Magnetic Fields written by Kenneth Olden and published by DIANE Publishing. This book was released on 1999-11 with total page 84 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Describes the analysis and conclusions of the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) regarding possible health effects from ELF-EMF (magnetic field) exposures. The NIEHS carried out a hazard evaluation of ELF-EMF exposure that examined both historical and novel scientific evidence on possible health and biological effects at a series of open, scientific meetings. The scientific evidence suggesting that ELF-EMF exposures pose any health risk is weak, and there is a lack of connection between the human data and the experimental data (animal and mechanistic).

Book Extremely Low Frequency Electromagnetic Field ELF EMF Exposure Assessment and Its Challenges

Download or read book Extremely Low Frequency Electromagnetic Field ELF EMF Exposure Assessment and Its Challenges written by Suzie So and published by . This book was released on 2020 with total page 31 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There are numerous factors that make ELF-EMF exposure assessment complex and difficult. A substantial amount of research has been published on the relationship between ELF-EMF and adult cancers, but the overall evidence of ELF-EMF health risks remains contradictory or inconclusive. Currently, there are no mandated standards for ELF-EMF exposure in the US, only recommended exposure limits at very high levels as ceiling values. The current exposure assessment methods do not measure all the characteristics needed to act as surrogates for possible adverse health effects suggestive of needs for better exposure assessments and for the development of standardized ELF-EMF measurement protocols. While the research continues on health effects and better exposure assessment design and metric for exposure assessments, concerned individuals, especially workers and employers who work directly with high intensity ELF-EMF sources, can use appropriate combinations of controls to limit exposure.
