Book excerpt: Purpose: To conduct a systematic literature review on the concept of healing justice and to specifically address definitions of healing justice and how this concept is being implemented. Focus of inquiry: How is the concept of healing justice expressed and understood through existing academic and non-academic literature? Methods: ProQuest, EBSCO, Google Scholar, and JSTOR were utilized throughout our research process. Literature that focused on other forms of healing that do not fit the definition nor principles of healing justice were excluded. Literature outside of North America was excluded and is limited to the English language. The time was limited to a five-year time frame. Results: 15 out of 18 literature met full criteria for inclusion. Organizing transformative movements, healing from trauma, liberation, and healing justice toolkits were themes that arose. Discussion: Providing a healing justice framework showed how pushing against the traditional model of healing takes form in the themes above. Limitations: Researchers found limited academic research pertaining to healing justice. Conclusion: The researchers recommend that the healing justice framework should be implemented throughout the field of social work.
