Purchasers can usually download a free scanned copy of the original book (without typos) from the publisher. Not indexed. Not illustrated. 1885 edition. Excerpt: ... CHAPTER XXV. RESURRECTION FROM THE BODY, OR THE LIBERTY OP THE SONS OF GOD. Accord1ng to Plato, there was once a winged race of men on the earth. Of course this is symbolical of a race who could emancipate themselves from the limitations and thraldom of the body, and who could rise in their thoughts above the plane of sense. According to Swedenborg's science of correspondence, wings denote spiritual truths, and to rise on eagles' wings signifies to be elevated by spiritual truths to celestial light. ("Arcana Celestia," 8764.) The great majority of mankind have lost their wings, and are grovelling in the dust. "Here man, fool man, inters celestial hopes, Without one sigh, and prisoner of earth, And pent beneath the moon, here pinions all His wishes, winged of God to fly at infinite, And reach it there where seraphs gather Immortality on life's fair tree, fast by The throne of God." The higher soul of man, imprisoned in the body and buried in the sepulchre of irrational sense, loses the use of its wings, and its angelic powers are latent and dormant. Instead of soaring into the heavens, it can at best only wade in the mud. The true wings of the soul are faith and love, or the perception of real truth and the pure emotional state its essential accompaniment. How to emancipate the soul from the body and the mind from the illusions of sense, so that we may attain to a truly spiritual mode of thought and feeling, and to the almost deific powers belonging to such a condition, is the great problem of religion and philosophy. Momentous consequences are involved in its solution. The importance and necessity of the resurrection of the soul from the body in order to the attainment of a spiritual life on earth is well stated by Sokrates in the ..".

This book was released on 2019-10 with total page 230 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The Primitive Mind Cure" is an 1885 treatise on the ability of the mind to heal with reference to Christian philosophy and transcendental medicine, by Warren Felt Evans. This vintage book is highly recommended for those with an interest in the power of the mind and the New Thought movement in particular. Contents include: "What are Ideas, and What is Idealism?", "The Application of the Idealistic Philosophy of the Cure of Mental and Bodily Maladies", "The Triune Constitution of Man and the Discovery of the True Self", "The Saving Power of the Spirit of Man", "Happiness and Health, and Where they are to be Found", etc. Warren Felt Evans (1817-1889) was an American author famous for his writings related to the New Thought movement, a movement originating from 19th century United States based upon the ideas that God exists everywhere, sickness originates in the mind, and that thinking "correctly" has the ability to heal. He became a proponent of the movement during 1863 as a result of seeking healing from Phineas P. Quimby, the movement's founder. Many vintage books such as this are becoming increasingly scarce and expensive. We are republishing this volume now in an affordable, modern, high-quality edition complete with an essay by William Al-Sharif.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the Preface. THIS volume is designed to contribute something toward supplying the demand in the public for further light on the subject upon which it treats, -the cure of disease in ourselves and others by mental and spiritual agencies. The first work of the author having a relation to the subject, was published over twenty-two years ago. It was followed, at intervals of different length, by four other volumes, which have had an extensive circulation in every part of the country, and to some extent in Europe. It is not an incredible supposition that they have had an influence, more or less, towards generating in the public mind the widely-spread and growing belief of the mental origin of disease, and of the relation of the mind to its cure. The work is intended to take the reader up where the last volume of the author, ''The Divine Law of Cure," leaves him, and conduct him still further along the same path of inquiry. It does not claim to have exhausted the subject, or to have said all that might be said; for the subject is one too vast to be crowded into so limited a compass, which would be like condensing the ocean into the dimensions of a lake. But it is to be hoped that enough has been said to vindicate the propriety of the title, -that of "Elementary Lessons in Christian Philosophy and Transcendental Medicine." It was our aim to furnish the teachers and pupils of the spiritual philosophy of healing, with a text-book which should elevate the subject into the dignity of a science....

Book excerpt: "The design of The Mental Cure is to explain the nature and laws of the inner life of man, and to contribute some light on the subject of Mental Hygiene, which is beginning to assume importance in the treatment of disease, and to attract the attention of physiologists. "We have aimed to illustrate the correspondence of the soul and body, their mutual action and reaction, and to demonstrate the causal relation of disordered mental states to diseased physiological action, and the importance and mode of regulating the intellectual and affectional nature of the invalid under any system of medical treatment." Phineas P. Quimby may be regarded as the founder of the New Thought Movement as well of the Metaphysical Movement in America. Credit for the spread of his ideas however, goes to four others. These were four sick people who sought healing at his hands: Annetta G. Seabury, Julius A. Dresser, Mary Baker Glover Patterson (later Mary Baker Eddy), and Warren Felt Evans. W.F Evans not only healed but he wrote a great deal. His great distinction lies in the fact that he was the first to write of the new healing and its basis as taught and practiced by Quimby. The Mental Cure, (Illustrating the Influence of the Mind on the Body, Both in Health and Disease, and the Psychological Method of Treatment, ) was Evens first book followed by Mental Medicine, Soul and Body, The Divine Law of Cure, The Primitive Mind Cure and Esoteric Christianity and Mental Therapeutics.

Book excerpt: Excerpt from Divine Healing: Mind and Faith Cure; The Science of Health and Happiness In presenting this book on divine healing to the public, the author has no apologies to make; believing that it will meet with the hearty approval and support of everyone who peruses its con tents. It is the first and only book of its kind ever published, and is indeed a book of revelations from start to finish. It is the key to the scriptures and unlocks the portals containing the secrets of divine healing, and reveals them unto man. When Christ bestowed power upon His disciples to preach the gospel, He also bestowed upon them the power to heal the sick. And He said unto thein, Go ye into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature, and these signs shall follow them that believe: In My name shall they cast out devils, and they shall 'lay hands on the sick and they shall recover. We have our Savior's example. We are told that He is the way, the truth and the life; He went over Palestine and Judea, preaching the gospel and healing the sick. What He did He said we should do, and we are doing. His command to His disciples was to go into all the world and preach this gospel that He had been teaching them, and these signs should follow those who believed. Mind you, the signs were not to follow the preacher, but the command was to go and teach the gospel and preach it, and these signs shall follow those who believe your preaching. What were these signs P Among other things, they should drink deadly poison and it should not hurt them; they should handle reptiles and nothing could harm them they should lay their hands on the sick and they should recover. In the Bible this is the only definition given of a believer, how a believer should be known. He who believes, has and must have that power. The signs must follow. They had the powe then, and according to the immutable and unchangeable laws of God Almighty there never was a change; those who believed then had the signs following, and those who believe today have the signs and can heal the sick. Book excerpt: The Rev. Dr. J. M. Buckley has collected together his papers from The Century and other sources, and like the wise householder who brings forth things new and old, has spread a rich table for those who enjoy reading about faith-healing. Christian science, and kindred phenomena. Unless one meets frequently the victims of the delusions of astrology, divination, apparitions and witchcraft, or happens to be personally acquainted with the librarians of our great cities, he will have little idea how great a hold the occult sciences (heaven save the mark !) have upon the minds of millions in our country. Under the shadow of our churches and scientific institutions, there are multitudes who still believe in one form or another of these superstitions. Dr. Buckley's method is to find a rational explanation of what unquestionably is, before he looks at what is supposed to be, and he considers there is no reason to suspect, and that it is superstition to assume, the operation of supernatural causes, when experimen'al science can reproduce the same phenomena and results. He believes heartily in the Christian doctrine of prayer, but he has very little faith in what is called 'faith-healing,'and considers that the claims of Christian 'faith-healers,' technically so-called, are effectually discredited, and he shows clearly the evils of the superstition. Under astrology, divination and coincidences he brings up a great many readable anecdotes from the classic times, as well as from the modern, and under dreams, nightmares and somnambulism, endeavors by analysis and characterization to show what are the real facts, and also the rational use of dreams. He devotes one chapter to presentiments, visions and apparitions, hinting at unsuspected mental resources, and showing what are the uses of these apparently abnormal phenomena. In regard to witchcraft, he does not believe that the Bible teaches the reality of that in which generations of men have long believed. As for the Witch of Endor, he considers that she herself was mistaken, and that the whole story is of what was said, rather than of what was done. Strangely enough, in treating of the manifestations of the delusion in Europe and America, and of the reaction from the frenzy, he does not mention the work of the great Balthazar Becker, the Dutchman who wrote the book which did so much to demolish the superstition. His last chapter treats of Christian science and mind-cure, and in this chapter, as in the others, he shows a commonsense which is contagiously healthful, and winds up with a very appropriate quotation from Ecclesiasticus.
