Book excerpt: This new edition of Education, Law and Diversity provides extensive updated analysis, from a legal perspective, of how the education system responds to social diversity and how the relevant social and cultural rights of individuals and groups are affected. It spans wide-ranging areas of school provision, including: types of school (including faith schools), the school curriculum, choice of school, out-of-school settings, and duties towards children with special needs and disabilities. It gives extensive coverage to children's rights in the context of education and includes considerable new material on issues including relationships and sex education, exclusion from school, home education, equal access, counter-extremism and academisation. The new edition also retains and updates areas of debate in the book, such as those concerned with multiculturalism and the position of religion in schools. It continues to focus on England but also makes reference to other jurisdictions within the UK and internationally. It is essential reading for anyone interested in the legal and related policy issues surrounding children's education today.

Download or read book Principles of Enterprise Law written by Ewan McGaughey and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2022-09-01 with total page 815 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Major enterprises shape our lives in countless ways: big tech and 'surveillance media' that affect democratic debate, algorithms that influence online shopping, transport to work and home, energy and agriculture corporations that drive climate damage, and public services that provide our education, health, water, and housing. The twentieth century experienced swings between private and public ownership, between capitalism and socialism, without any settled, principled outcome, and without settling major questions of how enterprises should be financed, governed and the rights we have in them. This book's main question is 'are there principles of enterprise law', and, if they are missing, 'what principles of enterprise law should there be'? Principles of Enterprise Law gives a functional account of the 'general' enterprise laws of companies, investment, labour, competition and insolvency, before moving into specific enterprises, from universities to the military. It is an original guide to our economic constitution and human rights.

Book World Yearbook of Education 2020

Download or read book World Yearbook of Education 2020 written by Julie Allan and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-09-30 with total page 231 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A timely contribution to the debate on educational governance and equality, the World Yearbook of Education 2020 documents the significant changes that have occurred in the last 20 years reflecting a widespread shift from government to governance. Considering school context as well as specific school responses around the emergence of particular forms of governance, this book presents and contextualises a clear historical account of governance and accountability within schooling. Organised into three sections covering: Changing contexts of school governance; stakeholders and ‘responsibilisation’; and radical governance, carefully chosen contributors provide global insights from around the world. They consider educational outcomes and closing the inequality gap and they document radical forms of governance, at local level, which have sought to create more equitable governance, intelligent accountability and greater involvement of key stakeholders such as students. Providing a series of provocations and reminders of the possibilities that remain open to us, the World Yearbook of Education 2020 will be of interest to academics, professionals and policymakers in education and school governance, and any scholars who engage in historical studies of education and debates about educational governance and equality.

Book HC 480 Holocaust Education

    Book Details:
  • Author : Great Britain. Parliament. House of Commons. Education Committee
  • Publisher : The Stationery Office
  • Release : 2016
  • ISBN : 0215090888
  • Pages : 25 pages

Download or read book HC 480 Holocaust Education written by Great Britain. Parliament. House of Commons. Education Committee and published by The Stationery Office. This book was released on 2016 with total page 25 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Holocaust stands apart from other historical events in being required through the National Curriculum to be taught as part of the secondary school history curriculum. Beyond the curriculum, the Government supports Holocaust education through a range of grants and projects. The Prime Minister's Holocaust Commission reported one year ago in January 2015, and plans are being made to preserve survivor testimony, to create a new national memorial and secure the long-term future of Holocaust education. This will include the establishment of a world-class learning centre for future generations of students. We have discovered a wealth of good practice and enthusiasm in Holocaust education. Teachers are taking students beyond facts to a deeper understanding of what it means to be an active and informed citizen. In doing so they are ably supported by several educational and charitable organisations. However, too few teachers - particularly history teachers - are being trained to teach the Holocaust. While much of the training available for teachers is of a high standard, more needs to be done to extend its reach to subjects other than history. The Holocaust should remain part of the core history curriculum, and we believe that the teaching of the Holocaust would be strengthened by the adoption of a deliberately cross-curricular approach.
