Book excerpt: After ten-plus years, significant funding support from many foundations and individuals, and the work of dozens of scholars, teachers, and volunteers, Ka Baibala Hemolele is available in the new orthography, which uses diacritics. It is the first time that the Hawaiian language bible has been formatted and printed with diacritical marking. Baibala Hemolele the Hawaiian Bible Project, a project of Partners in Development Foundation, initially began to electronically preserve the 1839, 1868, and 1994 printings of the Hawaiian Bible, but grew into a complete editing of the Bible to embrace the new orthography. The original translation, completed in 1839, played a significant role in the development of the Hawaiian language as a written language, and it continues to be a major linguistic, cultural, and spiritual resource for the Hawaiian community and Hawaiian language students throughout the world.

Book Holy Bible Aionian Edition Hawaiian Bible 1868

Download or read book Holy Bible Aionian Edition Hawaiian Bible 1868 written by Nainoia Nainoia Inc. and published by . This book was released on 2018-03-05 with total page 828 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Holy Bible Aionian Edition is the world's first Bibleun-translation! (free at AionianBible.org and Google Playstore) What is an un-translation? Bibles are translated into each of ourlanguages from the original Hebrew, Aramaic, and Koine Greek. Occasionally, the best word translation cannot be found and these words are transliteratedletter by letter. Four well-known transliterations are Christ, baptism, angel, and apostle. The meaning is thenpreserved more accurately through context and a lexicon. The Aionian Bibleun-translates and instead transliterates ten additional Aionian Glossarywords to help us better understand God's love for individuals and allmankind, and the nature of after-life destinies. The key Greek word un-translated in the Aionian Bible is aionios, typically translated as eternal and also world or age. However, aionios means something much more wonderful thaneternal! Ancient Greeks used the adjective aionios to meanentirety and completeness, such as the complete amount from the beginning to the end of the aion, but never eternal time. Soaionios is the perfect description of God's Word which has everythingwe need for life and godliness! And the aionios life promised in John3:16 is not a simple ticket to eternal life in the future, but theinvitation through faith to a complete life now! VisitAionianBible.org/Preface for further explanation. The un-translation helps us to see aionios and the additional AionianGlossary words in context. The original translation is not changed at alland an inline note is inserted in sixty-three Old Testament and two hundredthree New Testament verses. Also to facilitate parallel study and use ofStrong's Concordance, apocryphal text is removed and most variant versenumbering is mapped to the English standard. The Aionian Bible republishes public domain Bible texts. We thank our sources at ebible.org, unbound.biola.edu, and dbs.org. The Holy Bible Aionian Edition is copyrighted with the Creative Commons No Derivative Works license allowing 100% freedom to copy and print, but further editorial and translation work must begin with the sources. Book Hawaiian Language

Download or read book Hawaiian Language written by Albert J. Schütz and published by University of Hawaii Press. This book was released on 2020-05-31 with total page 382 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hawaiian Language: Past, Present, Future presents aspects of Hawaiian and its history that are rarely treated in language classes. The major characters in this book make up a diverse cast: Dutch merchants, Captain Cook’s naturalist and philologist William Anderson, ‘Ōpūkaha‘ia (the inspiration for the Hawaiian Mission), the American lexicographer Noah Webster, philologists in New England, missionary-linguists and their Hawaiian consultants, and many minor players. The account begins in prehistory, placing the probable origins of the ancestor of Polynesian languages in mainland Asia. An evolving family tree reflects the linguistic changes that took place as these people moved east. The current versions are examined from a Hawaiian-centered point of view, comparing the sound system of the language with those of its major relatives in the Polynesian triangle. More recent historical topics begin with the first written samples of a Polynesian language in 1616, which led to the birth of the idea of a widespread language family. The next topic is how the Hawaiian alphabet was developed. The first efforts suffered from having too many letters, a problem that was solved in 1826 through brilliant reasoning by its framers and their Hawaiian consultants. The opposite problem was that the alphabet didn’t have enough letters: analysts either couldn’t hear or misinterpreted the glottal stop and long vowels. The end product of the development of the alphabet—literacy—is more complicated than some statistics would have us believe. As for its success or failure, both points of view, from contemporary observers, are presented. Still, it cannot be denied that literacy had a tremendous and lasting effect on Hawaiian culture. The last part of the book concentrates on the most-used Hawaiian reference works—dictionaries. It describes current projects that combine print and manuscript collections on a searchable website. These projects can include the growing body of material that is being made available through recent and ongoing research. As for the future, a proposed monolingual dictionary would allow users to avoid an English bridge to understanding, and move directly to a definition that includes Hawaiian cultural features and a Hawaiian worldview.

Book excerpt: Hawai'i is a unique place on earth with awe-inspiring natural beauty ranging from white sand beaches, to plunging waterfalls, to cloud-covered summits. It's a place where the creation of land continues with fiery volcanic eruptions and streams of lava that cool, coil, and cement into hardened black rock out of which new life miraculously sprouts through cracks and crevices under the same sun that the demigod Māui slowed with his rope. These natural wonders invite us to slow down, drink in, and ponder the beauty before us--from misty rainbows, to dazzling sunrises and sunsets, to massive crashing waves. Meditations of Hawai'i invites you to meditate on God's work as reflected in Hawai'i's picturesque landscapes. Each stunning photograph is paired with scripture in both English and Hawaiian from Ka Baibala Hemolele to provide reflection, celebration, and instruction.
