Download or read book DJ MacDonald written by Corie Laraya-Coutts and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2010-03 with total page 130 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: DJ MacDonald is a normal high school student in Guelph, Ontario. Like many fourteen-year-old Canadian boys, DJ's life revolves around hockey, but he is not as normal as he appears. Tormented by vivid visions of strange creatures, and haunted by apparitions from another world, DJ leaves for a family reunion in the Philippines. When DJ returns to his roots, he and his cousin Hans discover a seashell shaped like a crown near the dock. Just as Hans holds the shell over DJ's head in a mock crowning ceremony, a bright light from the moon zaps the two boys. Suddenly, DJ and Hans are mysteriously transported to the bottom of the ocean in an air bubble where they come face-to-face with monstrous sea ogres. It is only after returning to the safety of the dock that DJ learns of a family secret. As DJ leads a Malipayon warrior mission to rescue a dying prisoner held captive somewhere in the deepest ocean chasm, only time will tell if faith, honor, and magic spells will be enough to overcome the evil that lurks beneath the sea.

Download or read book Swept Away by DJ written by DJ Sweeper and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2010-05-27 with total page 230 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book are poems I wrote in my WebTV days, some requested by friends for special occasions and others submitted to the love of my life, who I met online during that stage of my life. Several poems are lengthy and go into some depth, but many readers have told me they are drawn into them, seeing themselves as characters. I was known as DJ Sweeper in the day of WebTV, hence the title Swept Away by DJ seems appropriate. Sit back, relax, and enjoy some old-time rhythm and rhyme.

Download or read book Newman in the Story of Philosophy written by D. J. Pratt Morris-Chapman and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2021-07-01 with total page 263 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Saint John Henry Newman is widely acknowledged to be an important theologian. Despite this, Newman commentators believe that his work has received little recognition by philosophers. This book explores whether or not Newman's supposed philosophical isolation constitutes a misconception in Newman historiography. First of all, it does this by examining Newman's general philosophical reception over the last two centuries; surveying a wide range of philosophical positions and philosophers from the many different branches of this discipline. The book then focuses upon whether or not Newman has made a contribution to one specific philosophical position, seldom given attention within Newman scholarship: the particularist approach to epistemology. In its investigations into this and the other more general dimension of Newman's philosophical reception, the book offers an historical re-evaluation of Newman's philosophical legacy.
Download or read book Cut Loose written by Victor Tan Chen and published by Univ of California Press. This book was released on 2015-07-20 with total page 339 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Years after the Great Recession, the economy is still weak, and an unprecedented number of workers have sunk into long spells of unemployment. Cut Loose provides a vivid and moving account of the experiences of some of these men and women, through the example of a historically important group: autoworkers. Their well-paid jobs on the assembly lines built a strong middle class in the decades after World War II. But today, they find themselves beleaguered in a changed economy of greater inequality and risk, one that favors the well-educated—or well-connected. Their declining fortunes in recent decades tell us something about what the white-collar workforce should expect to see in the years ahead, as job-killing technologies and the shipping of work overseas take away even more good jobs. Cut Loose offers a poignant look at how the long-term unemployed struggle in today’s unfair economy to support their families, rebuild their lives, and overcome the shame and self-blame they deal with on a daily basis. It is also a call to action—a blueprint for a new kind of politics, one that offers a measure of grace in a society of ruthless advancement.
