Download or read book The Chicken Qabalah of Rabbi Lamed Ben Clifford written by Lon Milo DuQuette and published by Weiser Books. This book was released on 2010-07-01 with total page 215 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A unique and humorous -- and also practical -- approach to the increasingly popular study of Qabalah. This is a seriously funny book! Traditional Qabalistic (or Cabalistic, or, indeed, Kabbalistic -- read this book to find out what the difference is...we know you've always wondered) sources tend to be a bit, er, dry. DuQuette spices up the Qabalah and makes it come alive, restoring the joy of learning the fundamentals of this admittedly arcane system by using simple, amusing anecdotes and metaphors. This account, written psuedepigraphically (fictitiously attributed to a supposed authority), allows DuQuette as Rabbi Lamed Ben Clifford to soar to outrageous heights and, when necessary, stand apart from the silliness to highlight the golden eggs of Qabalistic wisdom nested therein. Sure to be a revelation to those who think that learning about the Qabalah needs to be tedious and serious, DuQuette shows that great truths can be transmitted through the medium of laughter.

Download or read book Into India Out of Africa written by Alistair Caldicott and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2004-12-01 with total page 283 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the word go, the style and tenor of this book is set. And it doesn't take long before we realise we are in for a raunchy, realistic, roughish ride; so seat yourself comfortably. Be transported from the relentlessly chaotic assault on the senses that is India to the cool Himalayan magnificence of trekking to Everest Base Camp. Through the vastness of Australia, unable to escape the predictably painful experiences of England's cricket team, before plunging into the outdoor activity challenges of New Zealand. Then, perhaps most compelling of all, the continent of Africa from the bottom up. An ambitious journey overland encompassing Africa's most extreme tip right up to its snow-covered top, Mt Kilimanjaro. Here it is not so much the final destination as all that is entailed to get there that informs and entertains. With a refreshing attitude, this book doesn't try to be the great African travel book drowning you with its intensity; Bruce Chatwin it is not. But it is a breath of fairly fresh air (excluding a lot of dust and some graphically described indigenous odours). The tone is conversational and intimate; the author takes the reader along with him on his (slightly) bumpy travels, and there is a splendid lack of any sort of political correctness, although Alistair is actually broad-minded and unprejudiced (minus a few Australians). He understands the people he meets. Without wanting to be remotely serious-because he isn't-this is a book that is kind and understanding of different places and people. The author observes, records, and attempts to shed light on people, places and experiences that are not of the everyday variety. The traveller-both experienced and of the armchairvariety-could have many a worse companion than this book.

Book excerpt: From Nero's nagging mother (whom he found especially annoying after taking her as his lover) to Catherine's stable of studs (not of the equine variety), here is a wickedly delightful look at the most scandalous royal doings you never learned about in history class. Gleeful, naughty, sometimes perverted-like so many of the crowned heads themselves-A Treasury of Royal Scandals presents the best (the worst?) of royal misbehavior through the ages. From ancient Rome to Edwardian England, from the lavish rooms of Versailles to the dankest corners of the Bastille, the great royals of Europe have excelled at savage parenting, deadly rivalry, pathological lust, and meeting death with the utmost indignity-or just very bad luck.
Download or read book Skywriting at Night written by Mad Dog and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2000-05-11 with total page 306 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Twelve year-old Jet tells anyone who will listen that they've got to face life's frustrations. His older brother violently disagrees. His father firmly believes that chaos breeds chaos and order begets order, and is living disproof of the theorem. Meanwhile his mother is in the throes of the fourteenth of what will ultimately be seventeen religious sects she will belong to, fervently rehearsing the art of speaking in tongues in front of the mirror. Life is eccentrically calm until Jet launches a series of Zen-like break-ins. Only the display materials are stolen from Cordin's Jewelers. The grocery bags are missing from the Food House. The Penultimate National Bank opens with no deposit slips. By the time the media, particularly the Weekly World Scene, grab hold of it the town is in an uproar. Then the Quite Reverend John Joseph Matthew Paul III pitches his orange and blue striped tent in the parking lot of the now-closed Two Guys store and holds a revival meeting which changes everyone's life. Including his own.

Download or read book The Snowy Day written by Ezra Jack Keats and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2012-10-11 with total page 32 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The magic and wonder of winter’s first snowfall is perfectly captured in Ezra Jack Keat’s Caldecott Medal-winning picture book. Young readers can enjoy this celebrated classic as a full-sized board book, perfect for read-alouds of all kinds and a great gift for the holiday season. In 1962, a little boy named Peter put on his snowsuit and stepped out of his house and into the hearts of millions of readers. Universal in its appeal, this story beautifully depicts a child's wonder at a new world, and the hope of capturing and keeping that wonder forever. This big, sturdy edition will bring even more young readers to the story of Peter and his adventures in the snow. Ezra Jack Keats was also the creator of such classics as Goggles, A Letter to Amy, Pet Show!, Peter’s Chair, and A Whistle for Willie. (This book is also available in Spanish, as Un dia de nieve.) Praise for The Snowy Day: “Keats made Peter’s world so inviting that it beckons us. Perhaps the busyness of daily life in the 21st century makes us appreciate Peter even more—a kid who has the luxury of a whole day to just be outside, surrounded by snow that’s begging to be enjoyed.” —The Atlantic "Ezra Jack Keats's classic The Snowy Day, winner of the 1963 Caldecott Medal, pays homage to the wonder and pure pleasure a child experiences when the world is blanketed in snow."—Publisher's Weekly
