Book excerpt: Excerpt from Harvard College, Class of 1867, Secretary's Report No. 11, 1902 I have included in this report only the record of the past five years, and each successive report should be regarded as supple mentary to those which have preceded it. Only for the purpose of correction, or of adding facts not previously printed, have I departed from this plan. A greater number than usual have made prompt answers to my questions, for which I thank you. I believe there is no one among the living graduates of the Class whose abiding place is unknown to the Secretary. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Harvard College, Class of 1867: Secretary's Report, No. 3, 1870 In accordance with the intention expressed in my first Report, issued at the time of our graduation, I now present you with a short record of the life of each member of the class for the past three years. The period has been, for most of us, almost, if not quite as much a time of study and preparation as were the previous four years; and, consequently, the record is, in most cases, very brief. That it is so, however, in so large a proportion of the lives, is owing to the failure of about one-half of the class to answer my circular, sent out several months since, - leaving me to supply, in the best way that I could, the facts which they could have furnished with so little trouble. My regret on this score is not so much that it has entailed more labor upon myself, as that the inevitable result must be a less complete and a less accurate account than could otherwise have been given. I have endeavored, so far as I have been able, to include all items of interest or importance, without going at length into statistics and dates, more properly recorded in the class-book. If every one who is dissatisfied with the few lines I have here given him, will remember, when the time comes for a new Report, that the Secretary does not know every thing already, as seems to be the prevailing idea, even among those from whom I have received letters, I can hope to make my fourth Report full, interesting, and valuable, in a much greater degree than is the present very imperfect one. I have included in the Report all that I knew concerning those members of the class who did not remain with us until the end of the college course. In 1867, -i addressed invitations to those who had left college before graduation, asking them to continue their connec tion with the class. Several expressed their desire to do so, as will be seen on a subsequent page; and I shall be happy to have any additions made to this number in the future. The Faculty have recommended Garbutt for a degree of a.r., out of course, this year. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. This book was released on 2018-02-07 with total page 68 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The First Report of the Secretary of the Class of 1862 on Harvard College: July, 1867 Ten years have passed away Since our graduation, and changes have come over the class of 1862 as Over our University. In the latter the changes are apparent enough, as we thread our way through the piles of brick and mortar which cumber the once beautiful yard, and which have even covered the Delta; but in the class the changes are not so visible on the pages of this Report. Death has been in our midst, and Davis, Hickling, and Ellis have left us. While the pages of this Report are being gathered, the tidings come from a distant land that Ensign, too, is dead. The meetings each year at Commencement have been well attended. Five of our number have been instructors in Harvard; one is now Professor. For the mistakes and omissions in this Report the Secretary begs the indulgence of the class, and trusts that during the next year they will at least inform him Of their addresses. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Harvard College, Class of 1867: Secretary's Report, No. 9, 1892 In scholarship, also, the Class had not been deficient, and an unusually large number received their matriculation papers about the middle Of January. Of its high scholars, the Class was also justly proud, and the term closed with James Barr Ames as the head man. There were also new conflicts between the Sophomores and Freshmen. One Of the latter was carried Off by the Sopho mores, and subjected to various indignities. A portion Of the Class immediately took up his cause, and retaliated by entering the room Of one Of the Sophomores and abstracting the occupant. From Jan. 20 to March 3, the Class took a vacation, which they spent chiefly in purchasing beavers, in which they appeared at the beginning Of the second term. The second term passed on very quietly, gradually developing the Class into more thorough collegians, and giving the first prom ise Of Sophomore conceit. The Class had nothing to excite it the occasional appearance Of a Sub excepted until May 6 when the Institute Of 1770 elected the first ten from the Class, making the first Open connection Of the Class with any society. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Harvard College, Class of 1872: Ninth Report of the Secretary, 1902-1912 The Class is still achieving, still pursuing, but the mourn ful fact which stares us in the face is the sad depletion in our numbers; sixteen of the graduate members have left us, among them Mills with his hearty enthusiasm, and the twin Sher burnes with their tuneful voices, to all of whom I think we will agree we owe the success which has attended our annual dinners; of those temporarily with the Class at Cambridge, Switzer has gone, in whose renewed acquaintance we were rejoicing. There are still too many men from Whom we do not hear, but we have discovered the whereabouts of Burry and Eldridge, formerly members, and William Wesley French has joined us again. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Secretary's Second Report: Harvard College Class of 1911 At the present time, the Class has on hand in cash and in bonds as listed below - a total of There should, however, be a total of as there is in pledges due but not yet paid. Of this, $404 dates back to our Senior year in college $630 to June, 1912; to June, 1913, and the serious total of to last June. Most of this very appreciable sum is in small units which have in many cases been left unpaid by mere forget fulness. If as you read this, this statement applies to you, let's have a check at once and wind the matter up. Also, if you are one of a number of men who made their first deposit for a Class Album, or one of a number who now regret that they did not get one of these splendid Class souvenirs when in college, you have in the first case only to send the balance of $5, or in the second case to send $7 to have one of the Albums come to you. The sum of credited to the Photograph Committee under the heading of assets represents sums due or volumes in hand which will probably not be completely realized on.
