Book Versioning Cultural Objects

Download or read book Versioning Cultural Objects written by Roman Bleier and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2020-01-02 with total page 218 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume approaches an understanding of the term versioning in the broadest sense, discussing ideas about how versions differ across forms of media, including text, image, and sound. Versions of cultural objects are identified, defined, articulated, and analysed through diverse mechanisms in different fields of research. The study of versions allows for the investigation of the creative processes behind the conception of works, a closer inspection of their socio-political contexts, and promotes investigation of their provenance and circulation. Chapters in this volume include discussion of what a "version" means in different fields, case studies implementing digital versioning techniques, conceptual models for representing versions digitally, and computational and management issues for digital projects.

Book Plottegg Architecture Beyond Inclusion and Identity is Exclusion and Difference from Art

Download or read book Plottegg Architecture Beyond Inclusion and Identity is Exclusion and Difference from Art written by Manfred Wolff-Plottegg and published by Birkhäuser. This book was released on 2015-11-27 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Plottegg is one of Austria's most high-profile avant-garde architects. He has been pioneering the use of the computer since the 1980s. However, using the technology purely as an electronic drawing board is not enough for him - programs are intended to generate solutions. The works selected for this publication therefore represent the architect's design concepts and working methods rather than solutions for building projects. The projects are primarily presented in the form of images; descriptions, data and comments have been reduced to the minimum possible. To that extent, this book is also a visual supplement to his essays published up to now. This first monograph on Plottegg's built and planned architecture closes a gap in the documentation of innovative Austrian architects.

Book Shadows of Reality

  • Author : Tony Robbin
  • Publisher : Yale University Press
  • Release : 2008-10-01
  • ISBN : 0300129629

Download or read book Shadows of Reality written by Tony Robbin and published by Yale University Press. This book was released on 2008-10-01 with total page 151 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this insightful book, which is a revisionist math history as well as a revisionist art history, Tony Robbin, well known for his innovative computer visualizations of hyperspace, investigates different models of the fourth dimension and how these are applied in art and physics. Robbin explores the distinction between the slicing, or Flatland, model and the projection, or shadow, model. He compares the history of these two models and their uses and misuses in popular discussions. Robbin breaks new ground with his original argument that Picasso used the projection model to invent cubism, and that Minkowski had four-dimensional projective geometry in mind when he structured special relativity. The discussion is brought to the present with an exposition of the projection model in the most creative ideas about space in contemporary mathematics such as twisters, quasicrystals, and quantum topology. Robbin clarifies these esoteric concepts with understandable drawings and diagrams. Robbin proposes that the powerful role of projective geometry in the development of current mathematical ideas has been long overlooked and that our attachment to the slicing model is essentially a conceptual block that hinders progress in understanding contemporary models of spacetime. He offers a fascinating review of how projective ideas are the source of some of today’s most exciting developments in art, math, physics, and computer visualization.

Book The Exform

  • Author : Nicolas Bourriaud
  • Publisher : Verso Books
  • Release : 2016-08-16
  • ISBN : 1784783803
  • Pages : 129 pages

Download or read book The Exform written by Nicolas Bourriaud and published by Verso Books. This book was released on 2016-08-16 with total page 129 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Author of the influential Relational Aesthetics examines the dynamics of ideology Leading theorist and art curator Nicolas Bourriaud tackles the excluded, the disposable and the nature of waste by looking to the future of art—the exform. He argues that the great theoretical battles to come will be fought in the realms of ideology, psychoanalysis and art. A “realist” theory and practice must begin by uncovering the mechanisms that create the distinctions between the productive and unproductive, product and waste, and the included and excluded. To do this we must go back to the towering theorist of ideology Louis Althusser and examine how ideology conditions political discourse in ways that normalize cultural, racial and economic practices of exclusion.
