Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Time-Harmonic Electromagnetic Fields A Classic Reissue in the IEEE Press Series on Electromagnetic Wave Theory Donald G. Dudley, Series Editor "When I begin a new research project, I clear my desk and put away all texts and reference books. Invariably, Harrington's book is the first book to find its way back to my desk. My copy is so worn that it is falling apart."--Dr. Kendall F. Casey, SRI "In the opinion of our faculty, there is no other book available that serves as well as Professor Harrington's does as an introduction to advanced electromagnetic theory and to classic solution methods in electromagnetics."--Professor Chalmers M. Butler, Clemson University First published in 1961, Roger Harrington's Time-Harmonic Electromagnetic Fields is one of the most significant works in electromagnetic theory and applications. Over the past forty years, it proved to be a key resource for students, professors, researchers, and engineers who require a comprehensive, in-depth treatment of the subject. Now, IEEE is reissuing the classic in response to requests from our many members, who found it an invaluable textbook and an enduring reference for practicing engineers. About the IEEE Press Series on Electromagnetic Wave Theory The IEEE Press Series on Electromagnetic Wave Theory offers outstanding coverage of the field. It consists of new titles of contemporary interest as well as reissues and revisions of recognized classics by established authors and researchers. The series emphasizes works of long-term archival significance in electromagnetic waves and applications. Designed specifically for graduate students, researchers, and practicing engineers, the series provides affordable volumes that explore and explain electromagnetic waves beyond the undergraduate level.

Book Power System Harmonics

Download or read book Power System Harmonics written by Jos Arrillaga and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2004-06-25 with total page 412 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Harmonic distortion problems include equipment overheating, motor failures, capacitor failure and inaccurate power metering. The topic of power system harmonics was covered for the first time 20 years ago and the first edition has become a standard reference work in this area. Unprecedented developments in power electronic devices and their integration at all levels in the power system require a new look at the causes and effects of these problems, and the state of hardware and software available for harmonic assessment. Following the successful first edition, this second edition of Power System Harmonics maintains the practical approach to the subject and discusses the impact of advanced power electronic technology on instrumentation, simulation, standards and active harmonic elimination techniques. Features include: A new chapter on modern digital instrumentation techniques. Added sections on active filters and modern distorting devices such as FACTS devices, multilevel conversion, current source, voltage source inverters and turn-OFF-related power electronic devices. References to international standards for harmonics and inter-harmonics. Numerical examples of technique application. Offering a comprehensive understanding of power systems, this book is an asset to power engineers involved in the planning, design and operation of power system generation, transmission and distribution. Researchers and postgraduate students in the field will also benefit from this useful reference.

Book Harmonic Generation in an Electromagnetic Wave

Download or read book Harmonic Generation in an Electromagnetic Wave written by R. Venkataraman and published by . This book was released on 1973 with total page 35 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ION, HARMONIC ANALYSIS), DIELECTRICS, FOURIER ANALYSIS, SERIES(MATHEMATICS), APPROXIMATION(MATHEMATICS), POLARIZATIONMAXWELLS EQUATIONS, PLANE WAVES, POLARIZED ELECTROMAGNETIC RADIATION, THEMIS PROJECTA plane electromagnetic wave is propagated in a non-linear non-dissipative isotropic dielectric. A method is given for the calculation of the change in the amplitudes and phases of harmonics of all orders, as the wave progresses, for any specified dependence of the dielectric constant on the magnitude of the electric field and for any initial wave form. The calculations are valid provided the distance of travel is sufficiently small that shocks are not formed. The formulae for the amplitudes and phases of the various harmonics take a particularly simple form when the initial wave-form is sinusoidal and the non-linearity of the dielectric is not too great. (Author Modified Abstract).

Book Fundamentals of Waves and Oscillations

Download or read book Fundamentals of Waves and Oscillations written by K. U. Ingard and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1988-07-28 with total page 570 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a complete introduction to the theory of waves and oscillations as encountered by physics and engineering students. It discusses both the mathematical theory and the physics of phenomena such as waves in fluids, electromagnetic waves, and discrete coupled oscillators in mechanics and electronics. The author gives a description of the mathematics of complex amplitudes and introduces forced and free oscillations and normal modes of resonance. Chapters cover wave guides, barrier penetration, and electromagnetic transmission. One section, devoted solely to surface waves, includes a discussion on light scattering and the determination of surface tension and viscosity, plasma oscillations, and feedback oscillations. Ideas and equations are displayed for easy reference, and sets of exercises follow each chapter.

Book Electromagnetic Waves

Download or read book Electromagnetic Waves written by Carlo G. Someda and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1998-05-12 with total page 632 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a comprehensive treatment of electromagnetic waves. The author's approach is thoroughly modern, and unlike many others, this text offers a unified view of electromagnetic waves and their applications in telecommunications, radar, and photonics. The extensive coverage of Electromagnetic Waves begins with Maxwell's equations and takes students on the journey from the wave and Helmholtz equations through polarization, plane waves, and wave beams and packets, to antennas, transmission lines, and waveguides. Completing the treatment are chapters devoted to diffraction and an introduction to the theory of coherence. The author strikes an effective balance of the teach-through-concepts and teach-by-example approaches. The book is filled with exercises, current applications, and exercises that solidify students' understanding and bring relevance to the material. It forms an outstanding text for senior undergraduates and graduate-level students in electrical engineering and physics.

Download or read book Tuning Timbre Spectrum Scale written by William A. Sethares and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-05 with total page 346 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tuning, Timbre, Spectrum, Scale focuses on perceptions of consonance and dissonance, and how these are dependent on timbre. This also relates to musical scale: certain timbres sound more consonant in some scales than others. Sensory consonance and the ability to measure it have important implications for the design of audio devices and for musical theory and analysis. Applications include methods of adapting sounds for arbitrary scales, ways to specify scales for nonharmonic sounds, and techniques of sound manipulation based on maximizing (or minimizing) consonance. Special consideration is given here to a new method of adaptive tuning that can automatically adjust the tuning of a piece based its timbral character so as to minimize dissonance. Audio examples illustrating the ideas presented are provided on an accompanying CD. This unique analysis of sound and scale will be of interest to physicists and engineers working in acoustics, as well as to musicians and psychologists.
