Book Analysis of the Gravity Field

Download or read book Analysis of the Gravity Field written by Fernando Sansò and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-06-09 with total page 542 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This textbook presents a comprehensive treatment of the theory and implementation of inverse methods in the analysis and interpretation of Earth’s gravity field. By restricting their consideration to a local rather than global level, the authors focus on the use of observations and data that are more sensitive to local mass anomalies. All necessary theoretical aspects are reformulated in terms of a Euclidean framework so that less complex tools from mathematical analysis can be utilized. Divided into three parts, the text begins with a review of basic mathematical properties of gravitation, computing gravity from mass distributions, and relevant methods from Fourier analysis. In the second part of the text, the Earth’s gravity field and its properties are introduced, and the preprocessing and processing of gravity data are explored. Finally, elementary inverse theory is discussed, after which the general inversion problem is considered via application of both the Tikhonov deterministic approach and a stochastic MCMC model. Throughout, examples and exercises are provided to both clarify material and to illustrate real-word applications for readers. Analysis of the Gravity Field: Direct and Inverse Problems is carefully written to be accessible to both mathematicians and geophysicists without sacrificing mathematical rigor. Readers should have a familiarity with the basics of mathematical analysis, as well as some knowledge of statistics and probability theory. Detailed proofs of more advanced results are relegated to appendices so that readers can concentrate on solution algorithms.

Book Spectral Methods in Geodesy and Geophysics

Download or read book Spectral Methods in Geodesy and Geophysics written by Christopher Jekeli and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2017-10-02 with total page 431 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The text develops the principal aspects of applied Fourier analysis and methodology with the main goal to inculcate a different way of perceiving global and regional geodetic and geophysical data, namely from the perspective of the frequency, or spectral, domain rather than the spatial domain. The word "methods" in the title is meant to convey that the transformation of a geophysical signal into the spectral domain can be applied for purposes of analysis as well as rapid computation. The text is written for graduate students; however, Chapters 1 through 4 and parts of 5 can also benefit undergraduates who have a solid and fluent knowledge of integral and differential calculus, have some statistical background, and are not uncomfortable with complex numbers. Concepts are developed by starting from the one-dimensional domain and working up to the spherical domain, which is part of every chapter. Many concepts are illustrated graphically with actual geophysical data primarily from signals of gravity, magnetism, and topography.

Book An Analysis of Gravity Prediction Methods for Continental Areas

Download or read book An Analysis of Gravity Prediction Methods for Continental Areas written by Luman E. Wilcox and published by . This book was released on 1974 with total page 318 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mean gravity anomaly values which represent 1 degree x 1 degree surface areas can be predicted on the continents by geophysical gravity correlation methods whether or nor measured gravity data exists within those 1 degree x 1 degree areas. These methods take into consideration the earth's structure, composition, and response to changes in surficial mass distribution by means of observed or computed correlations between gravity and other geophysical parameters within geologic/tectonic provinces. Linear basic prediction functions, used to describe and predict the relationships between gravity and elevation, are shown to be a natural consequence of the properties of gravity reduction procedures and the observed behavior of gravity anomalies within structurally homogeneous regions. Download or read book Geodesy written by Wolfgang Torge and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2015-08-31 with total page 276 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book gives a systematic overview of the fundamental theories, frameworks and methods for measurement and evaluation applying to geodesy, though the contribution of geodetic spatial techniques for positioning and for establishing the gravitational field receives particular emphasis. These methods have led to a change in the setting up of geodetic basic networks that is also of importance in practical terms; for interdisciplinary geodynamics research geodesy can likewise make major contributions with their assistance. The current status of geodesy is illustrated by numerous examples from survey, evaluation and analysis; an extensive literature list makes further study all the easier. The book conveys an extensive overview of the profound changes that geodesy has undergone in the past twenty years.
