Download or read book Graham s Electroplating Engineering Handbook written by L.J. Durney and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1984-11-30 with total page 270 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As an instructor in various finishing courses, I have frequently made the statement over the years that "In the field of metal finishing there is very little black and white, just a great deal of grey. It is the purpose of the instructor to familiarize the student with the beacons that will guide him through this fog. " To a very considerable extent, a handbook such as this serves a similar purpose. It is also subject to similar limitations. Providing all the required information would result in a multi-volume encyclopedia rather than a usable handbook. In the pages that follow, you will therefore find frequent references to other sources where more detailed explanations or information can be found. The present goal is proper guidance and the provision ofthe most frequently required facts, not everything that is available. In the 13 years since the last edition, changes in the finishing industry have been profound but in one sense have resulted in simplifying matters rather than complicating them. Because technology has advanced to a level of complexity rendering "home brew" impracti cal in many cases, dependence on proprietary compounds has become common. Therefore, detailed solution compositions are often no longer significant or even practical. It is thus more important to provide instruction about the factors that affect the choice of the most suitable type of proprietary material.
Download or read book Electrodeposition of Chromium from Chromic Acid Solutions written by George Dubpernell and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 118 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Electrodeposition of Chromium from Chromic Acid Solutions focuses on the behavior of catalysts used in the electrodeposition of chromium from chromic acid solutions, particularly noting the characteristics, compositions, reactions, and applications of chromium. The book first offers information on the discovery of chromium by Nicolas-Louis Vauquelin, taking into consideration the experiments that he conducted to identify this metal. The manuscript then surveys the economic value of chromium deposition. Particularly given importance are the non-galling and wear resistant characteristics of chromium, enabling it to become a primary component in modern machines. The text describes the common forms of deposited chromium and catalyst balance. The differing electrochemical behaviors of cold chromium and bright chromium are discussed. The manuscript also presents information on empirical tests for catalyst concentration and bath balance and fluoride and complex fluoride catalyzed baths. The book is a vital source of data for readers wanting to explore electrodeposition of chromium from chromic acid solutions.

Download or read book Metallography and Microstructure in Ancient and Historic Metals written by David A. Scott and published by Getty Publications. This book was released on 1992-01-02 with total page 185 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: David A. Scott provides a detailed introduction to the structure and morphology of ancient and historic metallic materials. Much of the scientific research on this important topic has been inaccessible, scattered throughout the international literature, or unpublished; this volume, although not exhaustive in its coverage, fills an important need by assembling much of this information in a single source. Jointly published by the GCI and the J. Paul Getty Museum, the book deals with many practical matters relating to the mounting, preparation, etching, polishing, and microscopy of metallic samples and includes an account of the way in which phase diagrams can be used to assist in structural interpretation. The text is supplemented by an extensive number of microstructural studies carried out in the laboratory on ancient and historic metals. The student beginning the study of metallic materials and the conservation scientist who wishes to carry out structural studies of metallic objects of art will find this publication quite useful.
