Download or read book Othello written by William Shakespeare and published by . This book was released on 2017-02-18 with total page 206 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Othello, Shakespeare creates powerful drama from a marriage between the exotic Moor Othello and the Venetian lady Desdemona that begins with elopement and mutual devotion and ends with jealous rage and death. Shakespeare builds many differences into his hero and heroine, including race, age, and cultural background. Yet most readers and audiences believe the couple's strong love would overcome these differences were it not for Iago, who sets out to destroy Othello. Iago's false insinuations about Desdemona's infidelity draw Othello into his schemes, and Desdemona is subjected to Othello's horrifying verbal and physical assaults.

Download or read book The Shakespearean Dramaturg written by A. Hartley and published by Springer. This book was released on 2005-11-04 with total page 241 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book marries a theoretical analysis of the issues underlying the role of the dramaturg with a thorough sense of the material conditions of theatrical production, from script editing and rehearsal room interactions to the preparation of programme notes and audience lectures. Central to the project is a notion of authority defined not by text or author, but by the theatre itself. The result is a guide for the prospective dramaturg which also provides for the more general reader a unique case study of the nexus between the methods and assumptions of literary criticism and those of practical theatre.

Download or read book Thirteen Stones written by Nancy Warren and published by FriesenPress. This book was released on 2019-10-16 with total page 456 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When Graham Michelsen pulled up stakes that spring and moved his wife Emily and daughter Lois to a brand-new model satellite community called Centrewood, he believed that its unique town plan based on his ideal form, the Circle, would ensure a life of security and stability. But having barely settled in, he is hit by a barrage of events which clash and collide, stark reality takes on an overlay of farce at times, and he struggles to manage his own equilibrium when everything seems to be going on tilt. Even his own daughter betrays him. Centrewood’s concentric circles are failing to protect him and have begun spinning out of control. Partway through the two months of September and October, 1957 that span this story, Lois is not mature enough to understand what is happening to her father Graham. She is not yet fourteen years old. She doesn’t know that as Chief Aeronautical Engineer for the Avro Arrow, he had worked so hard leading up to the October 4 Rollout that he was already suffering from burnout. On that very day, he was beset by three major setbacks, after which even more hit him broadside. Lois finds herself adding to his aggravation by suddenly flexing her wings, asserting her right to speak out and stand her ground. She also has her own challenges. She is absorbed by practicing flute with her new friend Becky, preparing to play the Doppler Flute Duet at the Fall recital. The other schoolmate, Mitsy, the thorn in Lois’s side from Day One, continues to disrupt Lois with her crazy antics, which ultimately lead to disaster. By the time Lois reaches her fourteenth birthday on November 1, everything has fallen apart.

Download or read book Spanking Shakespeare written by Jake Wizner and published by Random House Books for Young Readers. This book was released on 2007-09-25 with total page 306 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: SHAKESPEARE SHAPIRO HAS ALWAYS hated his name. His parents bestowed it on him as some kind of sick joke when he was born, and his life has gone downhill from there, one embarrassing incident after another. Entering his senior year of high school, Shakespeare has never had a girlfriend, his younger brother is cooler than he is, and his best friend's favorite topic of conversation is his bowel movements. But Shakespeare will have the last laugh. He is chronicling every mortifying detail in his memoir, the writing project each senior at Shakespeare's high school must complete. And he is doing it brilliantly. And, just maybe, a prize-winning memoir will bring him respect, admiration, and a girlfriend . . . or at least a prom date.
