Book excerpt: A wonderful collection of 11 of Hans Christian Andersen's most well-loved fairy tales illustrated by the charming colour plates and black and white line drawings of Anne Anderson. Stories Include: The Drop of Water; The Tinder Box; The Ugly Duckling; The Little Match-Girl; The Garden of Paradise; Little Tuk; The Little Mermaid; The Nightingale; The Marsh King's Daughter; Mother Elder; and The Daisy. Many of the earliest children's books, particularly those dating back to the 1850s and before, are now extremely scarce and increasingly expensive. Pook Press are working to republish these classic works in affordable, high quality, colour editions, using the original text and artwork so these works can delight another generation of children. About the Author: Hans Christian Andersen (1805-1875) was a Danish poet and author celebrated for his children's stories but perhaps best known for his immortal Fairy Tales meant for both adults and children and frequently written in a colloquial style to veil their sophisticated moral teachings. He broke new ground in terms of style and content by using idioms and constructions of spoken language in a way that had previously not been seen in Danish literature. His poetry and stories have been translated into over 150 languages, inspiring a wealth of films, plays and ballets. About the Illustrator: Anne Anderson (1874-c.1940) was a Scottish illustrator chiefly noted for her Art Nouveau children's book illustrations that display fluidity typical of the movement. Characteristic of her work are decorative and lightly drawn or painted illustrations of neatly dressed children, neatly dressed with pear-shaped faces. Anderson's work has been compared to that of Jessie M. King, a contemporary.

Although a prolific writer of plays, travelogues, novels, and poems, Andersen is best remembered for his fairy tales, a literary genre he so mastered that he himself has become as mythical as the tales he wrote. Andersen's popularity is not limited to children; his stories-called eventyr, or "fantastic tales"-express themes that transcend age and nationality. During his lifetime he was acclaimed for having delighted children worldwide and was feted by royalty. Andersen's fairy tales, which have been translated into more than 125 languages, have become culturally embedded in the West's collective consciousness, readily accessible to children, but presenting lessons of virtue and resilience in the face of adversity for mature readers as well. They have inspired motion pictures, plays, ballets, and animated films.

Book Andersen s Fairy Tales By Hans Christian Andersen Annotated Book

Download or read book Andersen s Fairy Tales By Hans Christian Andersen Annotated Book written by Hans Christian Andersen and published by . This book was released on 2020-10-24 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The fairy stories of Hans Christian Andersen are distinct from those compiled with the aid of the Brothers Grimm. Not because of their content material a lot as their provenance. A little known truth amongst individuals who are acquainted with the testimonies of little mermaids and unsightly ducklings is that some of the maximum beloved testimonies penned by way of Andersen virtually have their foundation in his autobiography. Take that duckling that turns out to be a swan, as an example.Andersen grew up not simply dealing with the ravages of poverty, however the ravages of a mom attempting as great she should to cope with encroaching intellectual illness. Her tries to impose a restrictive popularity of conformity upon younger Hans become carried out-just like the mother duck's-with the first-rate of intentions. Just like the mother duck, the writer's mom had no concept her perception became reality became no longer pretty actual. The autobiographical idea of The Red Shoes is greater direct: they have been born out of his obsessive interest to the pronounced squeaking which issued forth from his new boots offered mainly to put on at some point of his church affirmation rite. The attention interested in the squeaky boots essentially allowed them to take on an existence of their very own, just like the title shoes of his fairy story which in turn stimulated a traditional movie.Andersen's fairy stories have retained their strength to enchant in large part by using virtue of delineating standard themes. If the universality of the memories are capable of making character connections with readers across a broad range of social strata, it must no longer be at all unexpected they spring from non-public revel in. Anderson turned into a creator committed to the purity of literary creation. He grew embittered looking less talented writers revel in extra reputation and success with the aid of appealing to fads. Why wouldn't the sort of creator eventually conceive a tale like "The Emperor's New Clothes"?The stress of innocence that constantly come truth to stand with the deceptive nature of the person international that recurs in the fairy memories of Hans Christian Andersen talk to a mature mind that never lost touch with the ache of youth. A ache that greater palpable and tangible within the autobiographical worlds of Andersen's Snow Queen and Tin Soldier than within the worlds of Cinderella and Snow White assembled by the Grimms, however created by way of others.
