Book In the Hands of Evil Dark Mafia Romance

Download or read book In the Hands of Evil Dark Mafia Romance written by Rose Knight and published by XSN. This book was released on 2024-08-06 with total page 582 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sienna Flores was born into a world of drugs and crimes. With both of her brothers going missing, and a father who is desperate to retire from his business, she has had to look after her family's legacy, her empire, since the day she turned twenty-one. Four years later, she has made a name for herself; a name that her allies have grown to respect and her enemies have grown to fear: Reina de la Muerte. All is running just as Sienna predicted: her business is booming with constant shipments to allies across the world and she is making more money than her father has ever seen in his twenty-five years running it. Nothing can stop her reign to the top—to the throne she has worked so hard for... Until she receives a message from her rivals about a contract agreement signed several years ago. Sienna's perfect world is thrown out the window when she is told that she is to marry the same man that tried to kill her. Cristian Diaz has grown from the ashes since taking over for his retired father, becoming a silent killer who let's his actions speak for him. Anyone who has heard of his name fears it for rumors both true and false, and his empire is notorious for "getting rid" of others who stand a threat to him without even a trail that can lead it back to him. When he is informed of a contract that is nearing its date, Cristian sees it as an opportunity. Afterall, if there's one person that he would love to be allianced with in his line of business, it's none other than Sienna Flores, the woman who built an army that could be squashed as easily as ants. But when he meets her face-to-face, all it takes is a single encounter for him to realize that this contract is so much more than a business deal. Maybe there is still something that he can fight for through the dark world the two of them live in. Something he can protect. And Cristian is sure that Sienna is just that.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Lansdale is an immense talent."—Booklist. Small-town juvenile delinquents, Pentecostal snake-handlers, zombies, psychopaths, and assorted freaks populate these witty and gritty tales of horror by a master of the genre. The suspenseful, action-packed tales range from visions of a post-apocalyptic world ("Tight Little Stitches in a Dead Man's Back," "On the Far Side of the Cadillac Desert with Dead Folks") to alternative histories ("Trains Not Taken," "Letter from the South, Two Moons West of Nacogdoches"). A dozen other stories of gruesome violence and utter depravity include "The Pit," in which car trouble develops into a life-or-death struggle; "Night They Missed the Horror Show," involving an encounter with ornery rednecks; and "Hell Through a Windshield," in which a drive-in movie provides a one-way ticket to another dimension. By Bizarre Hands, Joe R. Lansdale's debut collection of short stories, was nominated for a Bram Stoker Award for Best Fiction, and two of its tales have received Stoker awards. Lansdale's novella Bubba Ho-Tep was adapted into a 2002 film, and his Hap and Leonard detective stories inspired the Sundance Channel television series. This edition features an Introduction by science-fiction novelist Lewis Shiner and an Afterword by horror fiction author Ramsey Campbell. Suggested for mature readers. www.doverpublications.com

When she is caught in an unsanctioned bank robbery in my territory, only my reputation protects her. She should have stayed away. Instead, she charges back into my life like a shining beacon in my otherwise bleak existence. She has no place in my world where hardened criminals toy with the lives of the innocent. Book Earth in Human Hands

    Book Details:
  • Author : David Grinspoon
  • Publisher : Grand Central Publishing
  • Release : 2016-12-06
  • ISBN : 1455589136
  • Pages : 544 pages

Download or read book Earth in Human Hands written by David Grinspoon and published by Grand Central Publishing. This book was released on 2016-12-06 with total page 544 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For the first time in Earth's history, our planet is experiencing a confluence of rapidly accelerating changes prompted by one species: humans. Climate change is only the most visible of the modifications we've made--up until this point, inadvertently--to the planet. And our current behavior threatens not only our own future but that of countless other creatures. By comparing Earth's story to those of other planets, astrobiologist David Grinspoon shows what a strange and novel development it is for a species to evolve to build machines, and ultimately, global societies with world-shaping influence. Without minimizing the challenges of the next century, Grinspoon suggests that our present moment is not only one of peril, but also great potential, especially when viewed from a 10,000-year perspective. Our species has surmounted the threat of extinction before, thanks to our innate ingenuity and ability to adapt, and there's every reason to believe we can do so again. Our challenge now is to awaken to our role as a force of planetary change, and to grow into this task. We must become graceful planetary engineers, conscious shapers of our environment and caretakers of Earth's biosphere. This is a perspective that begs us to ask not just what future do we want to avoid, but what do we seek to build? What kind of world do we want? Are humans the worst thing or the best thing to ever happen to our planet? Today we stand at a pivotal juncture, and the answer will depend on the choices we make.

Book Dark Data

    Book Details:
  • Author : David J. Hand
  • Publisher : Princeton University Press
  • Release : 2022-02-15
  • ISBN : 0691234469
  • Pages : 344 pages

Download or read book Dark Data written by David J. Hand and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2022-02-15 with total page 344 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Data describe and represent the world. However, no matter how big they may be, data sets don't - indeed cannot - capture everything. Data are measurements - and, as such, they represent only what has been measured. They don't necessarily capture all the information that is relevant to the questions we may want to ask. If we do not take into account what may be missing/unknown in the data we have, we may find ourselves unwittingly asking questions that our data cannot actually address, come to mistaken conclusions, and make disastrous decisions. In this book, David Hand looks at the ubiquitous phenomenon of "missing data." He calls this "dark data" (making a comparison to "dark matter" - i.e., matter in the universe that we know is there, but which is invisible to direct measurement). He reveals how we can detect when data is missing, the types of settings in which missing data are likely to be found, and what to do about it. It can arise for many reasons, which themselves may not be obvious - for example, asymmetric information in wars; time delays in financial trading; dropouts in clinical trials; deliberate selection to enhance apparent performance in hospitals, policing, and schools; etc. What becomes clear is that measuring and collecting more and more data (big data) will not necessarily lead us to better understanding or to better decisions. We need to be vigilant to what is missing or unknown in our data, so that we can try to control for it. How do we do that? We can be alert to the causes of dark data, design better data-collection strategies that sidestep some of these causes - and, we can ask better questions of our data, which will lead us to deeper insights and better decisions"--
