  • Pages : 0 pages

Download or read book Kentucky Timber Toys written by Paul Arnold and published by . This book was released on 2023-04-15 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Years ago, we started in a two-car garage with benchtop tools, and on Saturday mornings my 5-year-old son and I would create and build a toy for him to play with. The toy would last a short while and we would redesign and build a newer version each week until the toy survived playtime. Our experiences in designing and building sturdy toys led us to the tag line of timber rough, timber tough, truly describing the toys themselves. The toys in this book are designed for the beginning to intermediate woodworker in mind, and they are all "weekend" projects. If you spend a few hours on Saturday and a few hours on Sunday, you and your child can complete a toy together. They are laid out, from the onset, to build on your skill set and confidence by starting with simple toy builds and ending up with more and more challenging toys as your child grows older and your skill set grows with them. They are designed for the rugged at heart. All of the toys are designed without any metal fasteners. All parts are either pined, jointed or a non - toxic adhesive is used to assemble the toys together. When we started this project, we were looking for ways to give back to the community in which we live and decided that, with a particular focus on children, we would go down the path of toy design and donation. All the proceeds from the book are being donated to The Home of the Innocents (Louisville Kentucky) and St Jude's Children's Cancer Research Hospital. We believe that this is the start of more good things to come and hope to build upon this book and expand our abilities to help others and their children. I hope that you will join us in this effort.

Book excerpt: What makes Darjeeling tea, Pashmina shawl, Monsooned Malabar Arabica coffee and Chanderi saree special? Why is it that some goods derive their uniqueness through their inherent linkage to a place? In a pioneering study, this book explores this intriguing question in the Indian context across 199 registered goods with geographical indications, linked with their place of origin. It argues that the origin of these goods is attributed to a distinctive ecology that brews in a particular place. The attributes of their origin further endorse their unique geographical indications through legal channels. Drawing from a variety of disciplines including geography, history, sociology, handicrafts, paintings, and textiles, the author also examines the Geographical Indications Act of 1999, and shows how it has created a scope to identify, register and protect those goods, be they natural, agricultural, or manufactured. The work presents a new perspective on the indigenous diversities and offers an original understanding of the geography and history of India. Lucid and accessible, with several illustrative maps, this book will be useful to scholars and researchers in the social sciences, environmental studies, development studies, law, trade and history.

Book excerpt: Before you begin working in the area of toy building, we would like to take some time and talk about the overwhelming thoughts of woodworking. People go on U-Tube and watch woodworking videos and are ultimately scared away because of the size of the shop and the amount of equipment needed along with the skill set required. Yes, there are those folks out there that have those 2000 square foot shops with $ 50,000.00 or more in equipment. Let me calm your fears on this. You can purchase all the equipment needed along with supplies (visit the website: Kentuckytimbertoys.com in the getting started section) for less than a set of golf clubs. We started in a two-car garage with benchtop tools and on Saturday mornings my 5-year-old son (at the time) and I would create and build a toy for him to play with. We have continued forward with this in mind and believe that the tag line of timber rough, timber tough truly describe the toys themselves. Being a former Marine and a former Police Officer, we started this book because we felt that it is the perfect time to give back to those that serve our country. All the proceeds from this book are being donated to The Wounded Warrior Project in honor of our heroes that protect us every day. This book contains a series of wooden toys for Children that highlight our men and women of the armed services. Each toy has its own representation for a specific branch of service. For the Air Force, we chose an A-10 Warthog. For the Army, the Abrams M-1 Tank. For the Marine Corps the Chinook 47 helicopter. For the Coast Guard, we chose the Dolphin Rescue helicopter. And for the Navy, the toy box is an Aircraft Carrier. We made the Humvee because everyone uses them. I hope that they will be embraced by all. You can view our designs at Kentuckytimbertoys.com the Warrior Series. I hope that you will enjoy building the toys and toy box that are in this book and know that you are helping the men and women that have protected and still protect this great country.
