Book A Catholic Organist s Book of Handel s Music for Organ

Download or read book A Catholic Organist s Book of Handel s Music for Organ written by Noel Jones and published by . This book was released on 2020-02-26 with total page 83 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The name Handel means Messiah to most people. Sadly, aside from the D minor Sarabande, little is known of his keyboard works. They are quite different from his predominantly melody and bass style of writing in Messiah and the operas. They sound more like Bach with an added degree of drama In addition the fugues are easier to play than Bach's making them ideal to learn and play before tackling the intricate weaving of voices found throughout Bach's works. Many of his keyboard pieces were be written to be played on harpsichord or organ. Many of the organs were quite small and few had pedalboards. Organs were found in churches but also homes and theaters. From that specific repertoire we have drawn pieces that are best suited for playing at Mass on the organ. The Fugues and Fantasias give you music to play after Mass, the Keyboard Suites music for playing during Mass.Coming from Germany and residing in England, his name appears in a variety of spellings.Noel Jones, AAGO

  • Publisher : Routledge
  • Release : 2017-07-05
  • ISBN : 1351564242
  • Pages : 703 pages

Download or read book Handel written by David Vickers and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-07-05 with total page 703 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This anthology represents scholarly literature devoted to Handel over the last few decades, and contains different kinds of studies of the composer's biography, operatic career, singers, librettists, and his relationship with the music of other composers. Case studies range from recent research that transforms our knowledge of large-scale English works to an interdisciplinary exploration of an individual opera aria. Designed to bring easy and convenient access to students, performers and music lovers, the wide-ranging articles are selected by David Vickers (co-editor of the recent Cambridge Handel Encyclopedia) from diverse sources - not only familiar important journals, but also specialist yearbooks, festschrifts, not easily accessible newsletters, conference proceedings and exhibition catalogues. Many of these represent an up-to-date understanding of modern Handel studies, deal with fascinating biographical issues (such as the composer's art collection, his chronic health problems, and the nature of popular anecdotal evidence), and fill gaps in the mainstream Handelian literature.

Download or read book Playing the Church Organ written by Noel Jones and published by Createspace Independent Pub. This book was released on 2012-08-25 with total page 72 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For a pianist or organist new to playing the organ. This book has been written for the pianist who has never played an organ or an organist unfamiliar with the Roland, Rodgers or Infinity organs, but may be used by an experienced organist as well. Designed to be used for self-teaching but also useful when studying with a teacher. The Playing the Church Organ series is also useful for the experienced organist as it quickly introduces you to using all the stops on the organ, ones named on the stop tablets or drawknobs, and all that are waiting inside for you to call on them to more perfectly match the stops you choose to the music you are playing. This innovative teaching system works backwards - the goal is not to teach you all about playing the organ, it's to get you playing the organ with confidence and sounding professional from the first day you play, even if you have never had an organ lesson and just know how to play piano or a keyboard.Technique:We achieve this by starting you off with preset sounds, just as a teacher does, but here you control them yourself, right from the beginning. All that you need to learn to get started are three things:• Pressing Piston Buttons. When you press a piston button, the organ is ready for you to play. We have picked music for you that only uses the keyboards. This isn't simplified music - there has been a lot of organ music written for organs without pedals - in fact, even during the time of Handel, many organs only had keyboards. You will find the number of the piston to push at the top of the music - then you just begin to play. • Which Keyboard to Play?We mark every piece for you so you know which keyboard you [play.• The Expression Pedal Sets the Volume. You'll be surprised when you find out that the organ is not as difficult as you are able to focus more on playing the notes instead of also making them loud or soft or somewhere in between. • What happens then?“But...do I have to play the pedals?” You will find organ music written without pedals in books 1-4 that is easy to medium difficulty. As you play through the music you will be using 10 preset sound combinations that are enough to play services, including weddings and memorial services. This book also hows you how to use the Bass Coupler to play the pedals for you automatically on some of the music - we do this to get you excited and interested in playing them yourself.• This first book contains 33 pieces of useful music for you to enjoy playing the voices you are learning about. • The first four books in this series are a complete course in music for the organ, as well as exploring the stops of the organ.• Careful attention to encouraging you through lots of interesting music that is playable and that your congregation will appreciate. • These books may be used with or without a teacher.• Book 13 - A Playing Guide to the Roland, Rodgers and Infinity Organs is a good companion guide to this series qof instruments.

Book Messiah

  • Author : George Frideric Handel
  • Publisher : Music Sales Amer

Download or read book Messiah written by George Frideric Handel and published by Music Sales Amer. This book was released on 2003-12 with total page 162 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "There is good evidence that at Covent Garden Theatre in his mature years Handel directed his oratorio performances from a keyboard which controlled both a harpsichord and an organ, as desired. The present realisation has this in mind, allotting choruses to the organ and most, though not quite all of the arias to the harpsichord. Nevertheless, the harpsichord part has been deliberately conceived without strong idiomatic characteristics and where necessary it might be played (crisply and cleanly without sustaining pedal) on a piano. Without too much adaptation, which any discreet player will know how to make, it could alternatively be played on the organ. But unless a small continuo organ is available, placed close to the orchestra and soloists, a piano (failing a harpsichord) would be better for the solos than an organ situated at a distance".--T.p. verso.

Book excerpt: (Music Sales America). This verse anthem with organ was probably Handel's first contribution to English church music and possibly his first setting of an extended English language text. As pants the Hart is undated and there is no historical record of the anthem's first performance, though evidence from the appearance of the autograph itself suggests it proceeded the Te Deum, and an estimated composition date is from November-December 1712. Arranged for soprano, alto, tenor, and bass soloists, SATB chorus and organ. Words from Psalm 42, edited by Donald Burrows.
