This book was released on 2018-02-14 with total page 178 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Library of the University of California Los Angeles IN the preparation of the present text-book, the primary consideration has been its utility as a means of instruction. Opinions will differ as to the relative importance of the topics that had to be treated, and the proportion of space that ought to be assigned to difl'erent branches of the subject. The writer has kept continually in view the circum stances of young people in Guilds and Bible Classes; and, according to the best of his judg ment, has given the information they are most likely to desire, in such a form as will neither perplex nor mislead them. References to larger works have been purposely omitted in an element ary handbook. Teachers of classes and directors of guilds, who, presumably, know whither to turn for fuller details, will be able to supplement what is here stated in outline, and will be guided by the circumstances of their pupils in the recom mendation of other books. Book West Virginia University Library

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from West Virginia University Library: Manual; June, 1908 The Library should be used to supplement the work of the class room.' Some such use of the Library is required in many courses. In all, it will add much to the value and the interest of the work. Other books than the text books should be consulted, whether for better treatment of special points, clearer illustrations, or more detail. It is well to allow plenty of time for work in the Library. Others may be using the books you wish; and the search for material may take longer than you expect. You can not hope to find in every case a book, chapter, or essay on just the point you are studying. It will frequently be nec essary to pick out facts from several books and put them together, and form your own conclusions. Book Manual for Institution Libraries Classic Reprint

Download or read book Manual for Institution Libraries Classic Reprint written by Carrie E. Scott and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-10-13 with total page 48 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Manual for Institution Libraries The library in a state institution is confronted by a threefold problem. It is concerned with getting suitable books, finding and equipping a place to keep them, and carrying on the library so as to make it effective. It is not very difficult to get a collection of books for an institution, but it is often a hard matter to find a suitable room for library purposes. Moreover, it is not enough to have the room and the books, there must be a person to act as librarian. Notwithstanding these obstacles, there are a number of institutions in the United States that have succeeded in getting all three of these requisites and their expe risnes is unanimous on two points. First, they are agreed that there should be a central library from which books could be issued singly or in quantities and to which the inmates could go in person without disturbing the routine of the place. Second, they believe that the library must be recognized as a distinct department and have a suitable officer in charge who will devote at least half his time to its management. Book Historical Afterlives of Jesus

Download or read book Historical Afterlives of Jesus written by Gregory C. Jenks and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2023-01-24 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This collection of essays explores the impact of Jesus within and beyond Christianity, including his many afterlives in literature and the arts, social justice and world religions during the past two thousand years and especially in the present global context. This first volume focuses on selected historical afterlives of Jesus, including the Pantokrator of Byzantium and the Aryan Jesus of Nazi Germany. This collection is not an exercise in Christian apologetics, nor is it an interfaith project--except in the sense that many of the contributors are from a Christian context of some kind, while others are from other contexts. The contributors include scholars in relevant fields, as well as religious practitioners reflecting on Jesus in their own cultural and religious settings. While the essays are original work that is grounded in critical scholarship, reflective practice, or both, they are expressed in nontechnical language so the information is accessible to intelligent nonspecialists.
