The Dumi speaking area is limited to five pancayats all abutting the Rava and Tap rivers near their confluence and upriver therefrom. The Dumi are now a minority in the area to which they are indigenous (constituting roughly a quarter of the population in Khotan district); retention is low and surviving speakers of Dumi are scarce. The material in this volume likely will comprise what is saved of the language for posterity. Annotation copyright by Book News, Inc., Portland, OR

Book Computational Phonogram Archiving

Download or read book Computational Phonogram Archiving written by Rolf Bader and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-01-25 with total page 354 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The future of music archiving and search engines lies in deep learning and big data. Music information retrieval algorithms automatically analyze musical features like timbre, melody, rhythm or musical form, and artificial intelligence then sorts and relates these features. At the first International Symposium on Computational Ethnomusicological Archiving held on November 9 to 11, 2017 at the Institute of Systematic Musicology in Hamburg, Germany, a new Computational Phonogram Archiving standard was discussed as an interdisciplinary approach. Ethnomusicologists, music and computer scientists, systematic musicologists as well as music archivists, composers and musicians presented tools, methods and platforms and shared fieldwork and archiving experiences in the fields of musical acoustics, informatics, music theory as well as on music storage, reproduction and metadata. The Computational Phonogram Archiving standard is also in high demand in the music market as a search engine for music consumers. This book offers a comprehensive overview of the field written by leading researchers around the globe.

Book A Grammar of Sunwar

Download or read book A Grammar of Sunwar written by Dörte Borchers and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2008 with total page 345 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This description of Sunwar, an endangered Tibeto-Burman language spoken in eastern Nepal, is based on extensive field work by the author and contains a chapter with background information on the Sunwar language, its speakers and their culture, followed by sections on the phonology, the indigenous writing system and the morphology of Sunwar. Verb paradigms, glossed texts, a Sunwar-English glossary and bibliographical references are also presented. Contact between the Sunwar and Nepali languages resulted in language change, most visible in the verbal system, where the older biactantial agreement system typical for Kiranti languages disappeared and suffix conjugations emerged. This book will interest those interested in descriptive linguistics, language change and languages of South Asia.
