Book Minimal Brain Dysfunction

Download or read book Minimal Brain Dysfunction written by Paul L. Nichols and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2023-08-18 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The concept of Minimal Brain Dysfunction (a previous term for ADHD) has had a tumultuous, and some would say, checkered history. Originally published in 1981, this title was one of a series of volumes dealing with specific developmental problems in children whose mothers registered for prenatal care in the Collaborative Perinatal Project (NCPP) of the National Institute of Neurological and Communicative Disorders and Stroke (NINCDS). In this volume, relationships between symptoms of minimal brain dysfunction and more than 300 prenatal and postnatal variables are examined in a cohort of nearly 30,000 7-year-old children. Despite greater understanding more recently, diagnosis and treatment continue to cause controversy. This is an early investigation into the concept of MBD and its causes, today it can be read in its historical context.

Book Handbook of Child Psychopathology

Download or read book Handbook of Child Psychopathology written by Michel Hersen and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 523 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although the field of child psychopathology is of relatively recent origin, it is a healthy, burgeoning one. Within the past 10 to 20 years, numerous articles and books have been published, and the field can now be described as emerging with an identity of its own. No longer can child psychopathology be viewed simply as a downward extension of adult psy chopathology. Rather, children must be viewed as children, not as miniature adults. Such a situation requires that issues of child psychology and developmental psychology be inti mately considered when delineating the problems of children. Such a focus has guided our efforts in soliciting contributors and topics for this volume. All contributors are active researchers and clinicians in the area of child psychopathology, and all are acutely aware of the special considerations of child and developmental psychol ogy as they relate to child behavior problems. Further, all contributors are empirically minded; consequently, the various chapters are data-based and represent the most up-to date knowledge available. However, since research-based knowledge is more abundant in some topic areas than in others, the chapters vary in length and scope.

Book Advances in Clinical Neuropsychology

Download or read book Advances in Clinical Neuropsychology written by Ralph Tarter and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This second volume of the series Advances in Clinical Neuro psychology addresses the neurological and neuropsychological dis orders that are seen most frequently in children. The book begins with a discussion of normal and abnormal brain development. From there, neurological and neuropsychological assessment methods are described and evaluated. The main body of the text is concerned with reviewing the major childhood disorders, and includes discus sions of brain trauma, dyslexia, minimal brain dysfunction, mental retardation and epilepsy. These latter conditions adversely impact on psychosocial development and limit educational attain ment. Approaching these disorders from a neurobehavioral perspec tive, therefore, potentially has ramifications for improving detection and assessment procedures, as well as for developing .new intervention strategies. This book continues the tradition of the first volume in that the contents include topics that address basic research, as well as clinical problems. It is hoped that this combination will encourage the professional to integrate research and clinical application in guiding their investigative activities or clinical endeavors.
