Download or read book Handbook of Measuring Socio economic Consequences of Traffic Crashes written by JUNG Namji, SUL Jaehoon and published by 길잡이미디어. This book was released on 2014-11-20 with total page 101 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This handbook is planned and designed as a toolkit for researchers, policymakers, non-profit organization staff members and individuals who want to understand how a traffic crash affects individual’s life in the longrun. Nowadays, many countries, especially middle and low-income countries, experience a high number of traffic collisions and fatalities because in many cases they do not have the necessary traffic safety practices and regulations in place. The more fundamental problem is that despite low-income countries experience a high rate of traffic collisions, the devastating and tragic consequences of those collisions are not well understood or shared; nor do most law enforcement authorities or policymakers provide sufficient accurate statistics. It is partly because of the lack of proper data leads to a lack of understanding what happens after the collision. Chapter 1 What this Book is About Chapter 2 What Motivated this Book 01. Download or read book World Report on Road Traffic Injury Prevention written by Marjorie Peden and published by DIANE Publishing. This book was released on 2008-09 with total page 67 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Every day thousands of people are killed and injured on our roads. Millions of people each year will spend long weeks in the hospital after severe crashes and many will never be able to live, work or play as they used to do. Current efforts to address road safety are minimal in comparison to this growing human suffering. This report presents a comprehensive overview of what is known about the magnitude, risk factors and impact of road traffic injuries, and about ways to prevent and lessen the impact of road crashes. Over 100 experts, from all continents and different sectors -- including transport, engineering, health, police, education and civil society -- have worked to produce the report. Charts and tables.

Download or read book Handbook of Socioeconomic Determinants of Occupational Health written by Töres Theorell and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-08-12 with total page 704 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This anthology provides readers of scientific literature on socioeconomic factors and working conditions with the newest knowledge in this field. Since our world is subjected to constant change in accelerating speed, scientific reviews and updates are needed. Fortunately, research methodology in epidemiology, physiology, psychology and sociology is also developing rapidly and therefore the scientific community can provide politicians and policy makers with increasingly sophisticated and exact descriptions of societal factors in relation to work. The anthology starts in the macro level sphere – with international perspectives and reviews related to working conditions in relation to political change (the fall of the Soviet Union) gender, age, precarious employment, national economy and retirement. Two chapters relate to national policies and activities in international organizations. The second part of the book relates to the meso level sphere – with reviews on social patterns in distributions of psychosocial and physical risks at work in general as well as reviews on noise, shift work, under/overemployment, occupational physical activity, job intensity (which may be a particularly important problem in low income countries), digitization in modern work, climate change, childhood determinants of occupational health in adult years and theoretical models currently used in occupational epidemiology - demand/control, effort/reward, organizational justice, psychosocial safety climate, conflicts, bullying/harassment. This part of the book ends with two chapters on interventions (one chapter on the use of cultural interventions and one on interventions and their evaluation in general) and two chapters on financial aspects of poor/good work environments and evaluations of interventions. In the third part of the book the micro level is addressed. Here mechanisms translating working conditions into physiology are discussed. This starts in general theory relating basic theories regarding energy storage and release to psychosocial theory (extension of demand control theory). It also includes regeneration physiology, autonomic nervous system function, immunology and adverse behaviour. Sections in the Handbook: Macro-level determinants of occupational health: Akizumi Tsutsumi, Meso-level determinants of occupational health: Morten Wahrendorf and Jian Li, Micro-level determinants of occupational health: Bradley J. Wright

Download or read book Transport Planning and Traffic Safety written by Geetam Tiwari and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-09-03 with total page 356 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recognition of the importance of road safety as a major health issue, the World Health Organization has declared 2011-2021 the Decade of Safety Action. Several countries in Europe, North America, and Asia have been successful in reducing fatalities and injuries due to road traffic crashes. However, many low-income countries continue to experience high rates of traffic fatalities and injuries. Transport Planning and Traffic Safety: Making Cities, Roads, and Vehicles Safer offers a source book for road safety training courses as well as an introductory textbook for graduate-level courses on road safety taught in engineering institutes. It brings together the international experiences and lessons learned from countries which have been successful in reducing traffic crashes and their applicability in low-income countries. The content is based on lectures delivered during an international course on transportation planning and traffic safety, sponsored annually by the Transportation Research and Injury Prevention Programme (TRIPP) at the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi. The book is interdisciplinary and aimed at professionals—traffic and road engineers, vehicle designers, law enforcers, and transport planners. The authors examine trends in performance of OECD countries and highlight the public health and systems approach of traffic safety with the vulnerable road user in focus. Topics include land use (transportation planning, mobility, and safety), safety education and legislation, accident analysis, road safety research, human tolerance to injury, vehicle design, safety in construction zones, safety in urban areas, traffic calming, public transportation, safety laws and policies, and pre-hospital care of the injured.

Download or read book Road Traffic Injury Prevention Training Manual written by Dinesh Mohan and published by World Health Organization. This book was released on 2006 with total page 127 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Road traffic collisions kill about 1.2 million people around the world every year but they are largely neglected as a health and development issue, perhaps because they are still viewed by many as being beyond human control. Efforts to prevent road traffic injuries are hampered by a lack of human capacity. Policy-makers, researchers and practitioners need information on effective prevention measure and on how to develop, implement and evaluate such interventions. There is a need to train more specialists in road traffic injury prevention in order to address the growing problem of road traffic injuries at international levels.
