Book Mediterranean Weather Handbook for Sailors

Download or read book Mediterranean Weather Handbook for Sailors written by Roberto Ritossa and published by . This book was released on 2014-01-01 with total page 120 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'Mediterranean Weather Handbook for Sailors' is an indispensable reference providing a general understanding of the various phenomena concurring to determine weather in the Mediterranean as well as useful forecasting aids. It is written for sailors, not meteorologists; theory is kept to a minimum, while every effort is made to provide clear interpretative tools that are helpful in understanding actual weather and forecasting. Roberto Ritossa is a meteorology expert and this handbook is a result of many years research on Mediterranean weather patterns. This second edition includes details of new and changed websites that offer meteorological services. Throughout the graphics have been improved and for some sections additional illustrations have been added. Roberto Ritossa has produced an excellent weather text book for those who choose to sail in the Mediterranean. Although it claims to be 'written for sailors, not meteorologists' there is more than enough essential theory to satisfy the keenest of amateur meteorologists. I would certainly buy a copy if I were to ever plan to return to the Mediterranean, as a sailor. - IG, Cruising.

Book Factor Separation in the Atmosphere

Download or read book Factor Separation in the Atmosphere written by Pinhas Alpert and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2011-02-10 with total page 293 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Modeling atmospheric processes in order to forecast the weather or future climate change is an extremely complex and computationally intensive undertaking. One of the main difficulties is that there are a huge number of factors that need to be taken into account, some of which are still poorly understood. The Factor Separation (FS) method is a computational procedure that helps deal with these nonlinear factors. In recent years many scientists have applied FS methodology to a range of modeling problems, including paleoclimatology, limnology, regional climate change, rainfall analysis, cloud modeling, pollution, crop growth, and other forecasting applications. This book is the first to describe the fundamentals of the method, and to bring together its many applications in the atmospheric sciences. The main audience is researchers and graduate students using the FS method, but it is also of interest to advanced students, researchers, and professionals across the atmospheric sciences.

Book Maritime Networks in the Mycenaean World

Download or read book Maritime Networks in the Mycenaean World written by Thomas F. Tartaron and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2013-05-27 with total page 361 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a new analysis of maritime life among the Mycenaean Greeks (ca. 1600-1100 BC). Whereas long-distance trade with Egypt or Cyprus has received much attention, the locations of Mycenaean harbors are virtually unknown and local maritime networks have been largely ignored. The main purpose of the book is to provide concepts and methods for recovering lost harbors and short-range maritime networks, using information from ship construction, coastal paleoenvironments, oral histories, texts including Homer, and archaeological fieldwork. The book is intended for all those with interests in maritime connectivity in the past.

Book Alboran Sea Ecosystems and Marine Resources

Download or read book Alboran Sea Ecosystems and Marine Resources written by José Carlos Báez and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-05-22 with total page 942 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Alboran Sea represents a regional Mediterranean space where North and South worlds merges, creating a geopolitical region where marine resources and maritime activities should be managed from a national and international perspectives. It is widely known, that currently the planet is suffering a global change, and it is also affecting the Alboran Sea, its ecosystems and populations. An important first step to update a paramount vision on this region is to understand the climatic, geologic and oceanographic, including biochemical cycles, process which shapes the rich geodiversity, biodiversity, the productivity, and the sustainable use of the marine resources from Alboran Sea. The fisheries management system should take into account marine environmental variability to achieve biological sustainability of marine resources. Well-funded policy-makers’ decisions require a sound science based knowledge of the interaction between the marine environment and commercial stocks. This is because the role of marine environment in the evolution of fish stocks is sometimes even more important than the one played by fishers in the commercial exploitation of them. Finally, we should analyze the different aspects of political context that could affect the management of the resources from Alboran Sea in the context of climate change. This book reviews different aspects of the Alboran Sea to help understand the current situation from the original Tethis Ocean. The book is divided into four blocks: (i) Oceanographic, geological and ecological context (chapters 2 to 7), (ii) biodiversity and ecosystems distribution (chapters 8 to 12), (iii) fisheries resources and aquaculture (chapters 13 to 20), and (iv) conservation, management and marine polices (chapters 21 to 25).

Book Air Pollution Modeling and Its Application XIII

Download or read book Air Pollution Modeling and Its Application XIII written by Sven-Erik Gryning and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 779 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The ITM conference series has always had a strong spirit of cooperation under the NATO/CCMS umbrella, and with the considerable interest fram Partner countries to participate in the ITM conferences, it provides an excellent opportunity to create ties between scientists. Whereas all previous ITM conferences have taken place in NATO countries, the 23rd ITM takes place in a Cooperative Partner country, Bulgaria, and is hosted by the National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology, Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. This fact reflects a general wish for a closer connection and collaboration among scientists fram Partner and NATO countries. This volume contains the papers from the 23rd NATO/CCMS International Technical Meetings on Air Pollution Modelling and Its Application, being held September 28 - October 2, 1998, at Riviera Holiday Club, Varna, Bulgaria. It was attended by 120 participants from 30 countries.
