Book excerpt: First published in 2006. Kabuki is the most popular form of Japanese traditional theatre. More fast-moving than Noh, it is a colourful and exciting spectacle based around traditional, historical and mythic narratives, many of which involve the code of the samurai. A recurrent theme is the ethical ideal of the samurai who gives up his life for his lord and his country, and the actors who take on the roles of handsome young samurai enjoy large and enthusiastic followings. Kabuki plays are set in the feudal samurai era, and the actors wear dramatic makeup and costumes and engage in wonderfully choreographed swordplay. A feature of traditional Kabuki is that all the female roles are played by men known as onnagata.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Invaluable material culled during the past fifty- to sixty-years-plus unexplored research data and what acknowledged literati in the world expressed on obscure areas have gone into this publication. Any citizen in a civilized society should be familiar with the historical information, current and ancient, in ones own country and that of others. Here the author has emphasized more on Sri Lanka, where there was an abominable civil war for twenty-six years, massacring over 70,000 innocent civilians and devastating a good part of the country. Author has well exploited how and why such a holocaust originated and dragged on for such a long period, where the lawfully constituted government had to fight to safeguard the citizens of the country to a possible extent, within the international parameters of war with the most ruthless terrorist outfit of the worldLTTE. This compendium undoubtedly will provide meticulous information, wholesome inspiration, and great satisfaction to an avid reader.

Download or read book Exceptions and Rules written by Pia Kleber and published by Frankfurt am Main : P. Lang. This book was released on 1987 with total page 430 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines the Brechtian influence on Roger Planchon's three stagings of Brecht's The Good Person of Szechwan (July 1954; October 1954; December 1958). The meaning of a Brechtian mise en scène is determined by an analysis of the Berliner Ensemble production of the same play (1957). A comparison of these stagings not only reveals the clash between the German and French theatrical traditions but the German mise en scène also provides a point of reference which underlines the similarities and differences between Planchon's and Brecht's staging methods.
