Book excerpt: In response to the growing need for military air defense in the 1920s, a parcel of Novato farmland on the San Pablo Bay was chosen as the future site for Hamilton Field. Constructed in the early 1930s and dedicated in 1935, Hamilton was originally established as a bombardment base of the 1st Wing of the air force. The base played a pivotal role during World War II as a flight-training facility and was an official point of departure for bombardment groups heading to the Pacific. Renamed the Hamilton Air Force Base in 1947, the base is also known for its well-planned community layout and landscaping, as well as its architecturally cohesive design in the Spanish Eclectic style. Decommissioned and vacated by 1975, the former base now serves as a planned housing, business, and civic park. Hamilton remains an important historical and community asset of Novato and Marin County.

Book Extended Lagrange and Hamilton Formalism for Point Mechanics and Covariant Hamilton Field Theory

Download or read book Extended Lagrange and Hamilton Formalism for Point Mechanics and Covariant Hamilton Field Theory written by Jurgen Struckmeier and published by World Scientific Publishing Company. This book was released on 2017-05-31 with total page 300 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers an explicitly covariant canonical formalism that is devised in the usual mathematical language of standard textbooks on classical dynamics. It elaborates on important questions: How do we convert the entire canonical formalism of Lagrange and Hamilton that are built upon Newton's concept of an absolute time into a relativistically correct form that is appropriate to our present knowledge? How do we treat the space-time variables in a Hamiltonian Field Theory on equal footing as in the Lagrangian description of field theory without introducing a new mathematical language? How can a closed covariant canonical gauge theory be obtained from it? To answer the last question, the theory of homogenous and inhomogeneous gauge transformations is worked out in this book on the basis of the canonical transformation theory for fields elaborated before. In analogy to the treatment of time in relativistic point mechanics, the canonical formalism in field theory is further extended to a space-time that is no longer fixed but is also treated as a canonical variable. Applied to a generalized theory of gauge transformations, this opens the door to a new approach to general relativity.

Book The Hamilton Type Principle in Fluid Dynamics

Download or read book The Hamilton Type Principle in Fluid Dynamics written by Angel Fierros Palacios and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2006-06-18 with total page 426 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book describes Fluid Dynamics, Magnetohydrodynamics, and Classical Thermodynamics as branches of Lagrange’s Analytical Mechanics. The approach presented is markedly different from the treatment given to them in traditional text books. A Hamilton-Type Variational Principle as the proper mathematical technique for the theoretical description of the dynamic state of any fluid is formulated. The scheme is completed proposing a new group of variations regarding the evolution parameter.

Book Hamilton s Principle in Continuum Mechanics

Download or read book Hamilton s Principle in Continuum Mechanics written by Anthony Bedford and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-12-14 with total page 114 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This revised, updated edition provides a comprehensive and rigorous description of the application of Hamilton’s principle to continuous media. To introduce terminology and initial concepts, it begins with what is called the first problem of the calculus of variations. For both historical and pedagogical reasons, it first discusses the application of the principle to systems of particles, including conservative and non-conservative systems and systems with constraints. The foundations of mechanics of continua are introduced in the context of inner product spaces. With this basis, the application of Hamilton’s principle to the classical theories of fluid and solid mechanics are covered. Then recent developments are described, including materials with microstructure, mixtures, and continua with singular surfaces.

Book Colonel Hamilton and Colonel Burr

Download or read book Colonel Hamilton and Colonel Burr written by Arthur S. Lefkowitz and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2020-10-31 with total page 281 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The final meeting of Alexander Hamilton and Aaron Burr took place in in 1804. It ended with Burr mortally wounding Hamilton in a duel. Hamilton and Burr first met in 1776, during the American Revolution. Their wartime experiences would shape their lives as Colonel Hamilton and Colonel Burr recounts. They were both young American officers at the time working to defend New York City against a British attack. Burr was a tough Revolutionary War combat veteran, having fought in the 1775 campaign to seize Canada from the British. In Canada, Burr battled alongside then Colonel Benedict Arnold and attacked the walled city of Quebec with General Richard Montgomery. Burr next accepted an invitation to join Washington’s headquarters staff. This book includes an account of Captain Burr’s brief tenure on the job that led to a lifelong animosity between him and Washington. In 1776, Hamilton was a captain and commander of a New York State artillery company. He leveled his cannons at the British at New York City, White Plains, Trenton, and Princeton before joining Washington’s headquarters staff. Both Hamilton and Burr wintered at Valley Forge and fought in the day-long Battle of Monmouth. After recounting the Revolutionary War exploits of Hamilton and Burr, this book then describes their postwar lives and political rivalry and why Washington told then President John Adams in 1798 that Hamilton was his principal aide de camp. Colonel Hamilton and Colonel Burr is a fresh approach to the American Revolution from the standpoint of two of its most interesting participants.

Book Graph Representation Learning

Download or read book Graph Representation Learning written by William L. William L. Hamilton and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-06-01 with total page 141 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Graph-structured data is ubiquitous throughout the natural and social sciences, from telecommunication networks to quantum chemistry. Building relational inductive biases into deep learning architectures is crucial for creating systems that can learn, reason, and generalize from this kind of data. Recent years have seen a surge in research on graph representation learning, including techniques for deep graph embeddings, generalizations of convolutional neural networks to graph-structured data, and neural message-passing approaches inspired by belief propagation. These advances in graph representation learning have led to new state-of-the-art results in numerous domains, including chemical synthesis, 3D vision, recommender systems, question answering, and social network analysis. This book provides a synthesis and overview of graph representation learning. It begins with a discussion of the goals of graph representation learning as well as key methodological foundations in graph theory and network analysis. Following this, the book introduces and reviews methods for learning node embeddings, including random-walk-based methods and applications to knowledge graphs. It then provides a technical synthesis and introduction to the highly successful graph neural network (GNN) formalism, which has become a dominant and fast-growing paradigm for deep learning with graph data. The book concludes with a synthesis of recent advancements in deep generative models for graphs—a nascent but quickly growing subset of graph representation learning.

Book excerpt: An indispensable resource for all readers, this book summarizes the founding of America alongside the personal and public life of one of America's most influential Founders through a comprehensive investigation of Hamilton's extensive writings. A product of extremely humble birth, Alexander Hamilton rose to become one of America's leading political figures, helping to determine the direction of nearly all of the seminal events of the founding of the country. The author introduces, provides notes on, and critically evaluates approximately 60 key documents that Hamilton wrote from his youth in the Caribbean through his leadership of the Federalist Party in the 1800s. In examining these writings, the book covers important periods of American history including the American Revolution, the ratification of the Constitution, the formation of the nation's first financial system, and the establishment of political parties. This book is a valuable resource for anyone who wants to study the key moments of the revolutionary and founding periods of America through the life and legacy of one of the country's most eminent statesmen. The work concludes with a chronology that provides historical context for the most significant personal and political events in Hamilton's life and a bibliography that offers a basis for further study.

Book Alexander Hamilton s Revolution

Download or read book Alexander Hamilton s Revolution written by Phillip Thomas Tucker and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2017-08-22 with total page 547 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Despite his less-than-promising beginnings as the only key Founding Father not born and raised on American soil, Hamilton was one of the best and brightest of his generation. His notoriety has rested almost entirely on his role as Secretary of the Treasury in Washington's administration, yet few realize that Washington and Hamilton's bond was forged during the Revolutionary War. Alexander Hamilton's Revolution is the first book to explore Hamilton's critical role during the battle for independence. New information presents a little-known and underpublished aspect of Hamilton's life: that he was not only Washington's favorite staff officer, but also his right-hand man for most of the Revolution, serving as Chief of Staff from 1777 to early 1781. While he found this position rewarding, Hamilton continually asked Washington for a field command. Hamilton's wish was granted at the decisive battle of Yorktown, where his Infantry Battalion charged on the defensive bastion on Cornwallis's left flank. Hamilton's capture of this position, while French forced captured the adjacent position, sealed Cornwallis's fate and forced his surrender and ultimate colonial victory. The entire patriotic cause benefited immeasurably from the advice and strategies provided to Washington by his youngest staff officer, Alexander Hamilton. Now, those critical contributions are brought to light in Hamilton's Revolution.
