Book excerpt: The contents of this book will open up the full spectrum of the readers' interest in knowing who are the Langleys and what is the secret the patriarch of the family left in a package after his demise. This novel paints a captivating picture of the lifestyle and history of a well-established wealthy family in Charleston, South Carolina. The family has to face the fact that the patriarch of the family, upon his death, decided to reveal, via a handwritten document to his daughter-in-law, Jennifer, the true story of the maternal and paternal bloodline of his only son, Edwin. This document was delivered to Jennifer on the wedding day of his firstborn granddaughter, Bria. The story provides the dynamic characteristics, personalities, and secrets of each family member and culminates with the son, Edwin, wondering why his father waited until after his death to reveal these truths. Edwin is left wondering how these revelations would affect him in his business and social life. More importantly, will he be able to cope with the truth about his real bloodline?

Book Progress in Hybrid RANS LES Modelling

Download or read book Progress in Hybrid RANS LES Modelling written by Shia-Hui Peng and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-09-17 with total page 361 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hybrid modelling of turbulent flows, combining RANS and LES techniques, has received increasing attention over the past decade to fill the gap between (U)RANS and LES computations in aerodynamic applications at industrially relevant Reynolds numbers. With the advantage of hybrid RANS-LES modelling approaches, being considerably more computationally efficient than full LES and more accurate than (U)RANS, particularly for unsteady aerodynamic flows, has motivated numerous research and development activities. These activities have been increasingly stimulated by the provision of modern computing facilities. The present book contains the contributions presented at the Third Symposium on Hybrid RANS-LES Methods, held in Gdansk, Poland, 10-12 June 2009. To a certain extent, this conference was a continuation of the first symposium taking place in Stockholm (Sweden, 2005) and the second in Corfu (Greece, 2007). Motivated by the extensive interest in the research community, the papers presented at the Corfu symposium were published by Springer in the book entitled “Advances in Hybrid RANS-LES Modelling” (in Notes on Numerical Fluid Mechanics and Multidisciplinary Design, Vol. 97). At the Gdansk symposium, along with four invited keynotes, given respectively by S. Fu, U. Michel, M. Sillen and P. Spalart, another 28 papers were presented on the following topics: Unsteady RANS, LES, Improved DES Methods, Hybrid RANS-LES Methods, DES versus URANS and other Hybrid Methods, Modelli- related Numerical Issues and Industrial Applications. After the symposium all full papers have been further reviewed and revised for publication in the present book.

Book Quantum Materials Lateral Semiconductor Nanostructures Hybrid Systems and Nanocrystals

Download or read book Quantum Materials Lateral Semiconductor Nanostructures Hybrid Systems and Nanocrystals written by Detlef Heitmann and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-08-20 with total page 446 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Semiconductor nanostructures are ideal systems to tailor the physical properties via quantum effects, utilizing special growth techniques, self-assembling, wet chemical processes or lithographic tools in combination with tuneable external electric and magnetic fields. Such systems are called "Quantum Materials".The electronic, photonic, and phononic properties of these systems are governed by size quantization and discrete energy levels. The charging is controlled by the Coulomb blockade. The spin can be manipulated by the geometrical structure, external gates and by integrating hybrid ferromagnetic emitters. This book reviews sophisticated preparation methods for quantum materials based on III-V and II-VI semiconductors and a wide variety of experimental techniques for the investigation of these interesting systems. It highlights selected experiments and theoretical concepts and gives such a state-of-the-art overview about the wide field of physics and chemistry that can be studied in these systems.

Book The Made in Germany Champion Brands

Download or read book The Made in Germany Champion Brands written by Ugesh A. Joseph and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-03-09 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Germany’s economic miracle is a widely-known phenomenon, and the world-leading, innovative products and services associated with German companies are something that others seek to imitate. In The ’Made in Germany’Â’ Champion Brands, Ugesh A. Joseph provides an extensively researched, insightful look at over 200 of Germany’s best brands to see what they stand for, what has made them what they are today, and what might be transferable. The way Germany is branded as a nation carries across into the branding of its companies and services, particularly the global superstar brands - truly world-class in size, performance and reputation. Just as important are the medium-sized and small enterprises, known as the 'Mittelstand'. These innovative and successful enterprises from a wide range of industries and product / service categories are amongst the World market leaders in their own niche and play a huge part in making Germany what it is today. The book also focuses on German industrial entrepreneurship and a selection of innovative and emergent stars. All these companies are supported and encouraged by a sophisticated infrastructure of facilitators, influencers and enhancers - the research, industry, trade and standards organizations, the fairs and exhibitions and all the social and cultural factors that influence, enhance and add positive value to the country's image. Professionals or academics interested in business; entrepreneurship; branding and marketing; product or service development; international trade and business development policy, will find fascinating insights in this book; while those with an interest in Germany from emerging industrial economies will learn something of the secrets of German success.

Book Learning Rates of Electric Vehicles

Download or read book Learning Rates of Electric Vehicles written by Andreas Zerfaß and published by Anchor Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2017-11-01 with total page 128 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Governments of many countries consider the electrification of individual passenger transport as a suitable strategy to decrease oil dependency and reduce transport-related carbon dioxide (CO2) and air pollutant emissions. However, battery-electric vehicles (BEVs) and plug-in hybrid-electric vehicles (PHEVs) have been more expensive than their conventional counterparts and suffer from relatively short electric driving ranges, which still hampers the market potential of these vehicles. Despite persisting shortfalls, mechanisms such as technological learning and economics of scale promise to improve the techno-economic performance of BEVs and PHEVs in the short- to mid-term. Here, the author seeks to obtain insight into the techno-economic prospects of BEVs and PHEVs by: (i) establishing experience curves and (ii) quantifying user costs and the costs of mitigating carbon dioxide and air pollutant emissions in a time-series analysis. The analysis captures the situation in Germany between 2010 and 2016.

Book Hybrid Bulk Metal Components

Download or read book Hybrid Bulk Metal Components written by Bernd-Arno Behrens and published by MDPI. This book was released on 2021-09-06 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent years, the requirements for technical components have steadily been increasing. This development is intensified by the desire for products with a lower weight, smaller size, and extended functionality, but also with a higher resistance against specific stresses. Mono-material components, which are produced by established processes, feature limited properties according to their respective material characteristics. Thus, a significant increase in production quality and efficiency can only be reached by combining different materials in a hybrid metal component. In this way, components with tailored properties can be manufactured that meet the locally varying requirements. Through the local use of different materials within a component, for example, the weight or the use of expensive alloying elements can be reduced. The aim of this Special Issue is to cover the recent progress and new developments regarding all aspects of hybrid bulk metal components. This includes fundamental questions regarding the joining, forming, finishing, simulation, and testing of hybrid metal parts.
