Book Polyvinyl Alcohol Halloysite Nanotube Bionanocomposites as Biodegradable Packaging Materials

Download or read book Polyvinyl Alcohol Halloysite Nanotube Bionanocomposites as Biodegradable Packaging Materials written by Zainab Waheed Abdullah and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-10-10 with total page 170 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book focuses on the preparation and characterisation of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA)/ halloysite nanotube (HNT) bionanocomposite films with different HNT contents for potential use in food packaging. It examines the effect of material composition and nanofiller content on mechanical, thermal and optical properties in relation to their morphological structures, and also comprehensively describes the water resistance, biodegradation and migration rates of such bionanocomposites, as well as their barrier properties in terms of water vapour transmission, and water vapour, air and oxygen permeabilities. Further, this book discusses the use of Nielsen model and Cussler model to predict the relative permeability of bionanocomposites, demonstrating that Nielsen model is more effective and in better agreement with experimental data obtained. Lastly, it discusses the application of bionanocomposite films in food packaging to prolong the shelf life of freshly cut avocados and peaches.

Book Microstructure of Fine Grained Sediments

Download or read book Microstructure of Fine Grained Sediments written by W.A. Chiou and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 570 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Knowledge of basic clay microstructure is fundamental to an understanding of the physical, chemical, and mechanical properties of fine-grained sediments and rocks. This compilation of fifty-nine peer-reviewed papers examines clay microstructure in detail with comprehensive sections focusing on microstructure signatures, environmental processes, modeling, measurement techniques, and future research recommendations. Many of these topics are discussed in light of geological and engineering applications, such as hazardous waste disposal, construction techniques, and drilling programs. The field of clay microstructure is developing rapidly. The concepts, observations, and principles presented in this book will help stimulate new thought and be a "spring board" for exciting new research.

Book Clay Surfaces

Download or read book Clay Surfaces written by Fernando Wypych and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2004-07-07 with total page 566 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Clay plays an important role in everyday life. This versatile mineral is used in housing, improving the environment as a waste treatment material and also in biological applications and medical health care. Clay Surfaces contains 17 chapters which deal with various aspects of natural and man made (synthetic) clay. Well written by experts in both experimental and theoretical areas, this book takes the reader into the fascinating world of the chemistry and physics of clay mineral surfaces and interfaces as well as the complex phenomena on the surfaces involved in clay related systems. This book will provide a better understanding of the intervention mechanisms of interactions of soils in contact with wastes, actions to be taken in the case of chemical spillage, methods to improve the production of food without affecting the ecological balance, increased fixation of carbon in the soil to increase grain production and reduction of carbon dioxide release into the atmosphere. Applications covered describe the role of clays in environmental remediation and the pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries. This book looks at theory and applications of both natural and modified clays from academic and industrial viewpoints. With broad appeal, this book is suitable for specialists directly involved in clay science and those undergraduate and graduate student studying related areas.

Book Nanomaterials and Nanoarchitectures

Download or read book Nanomaterials and Nanoarchitectures written by M. Bardosova and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-08-31 with total page 354 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The current work consists of nine contributions describing recent progress in the interdisciplinary of Nanoscience, which involves physics, chemistry, engineering, biology and medicine and one essay outlining some important historical and socioeconomic factors pertaining to recent developments in nanoscale science and technology.
