Book A Sinner in Mecca

Download or read book A Sinner in Mecca written by Parvez Sharma and published by BenBella Books. This book was released on 2017-08-15 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the recipient of a 2018 Guggenheim Fellow Based on the New York Times' Critic Pick documentary "The first book about the Hajj from a gay perspective, written by a man with a deep knowledge of Islamic history. This pilgrimage is the centerpiece of his book, and he recounts it with courage and fierce emotion." —The Guardian This is the Islam you've never been allowed to see. Daringly reported from its frontlines and forbidden to most of humanity for centuries. The Hajj pilgrimage is a journey every Muslim is commanded by God to go on at least once in a lifetime if they are able and, like millions, Parvez Sharma believes his spiritual salvation lies at Islam's ground zero, Mecca. But unlike the journeys of his fellow Muslims, the consequences of his own could be deadly. In A Sinner in Mecca, author, filmmaker, and 2018 Guggenheim Fellow Parvez chronicles his pilgrimage as a very openly gay Muslim to Saudi Arabia, where Islam's heart beats . . . and where being true to himself is punishable by death. Risking his life, Parvez embarks on a Jihad of the self—filming his experience along the way. Already under fire for his documentary A Jihad for Love, which looks at the coexistence of Islam and homosexuality, he would undoubtedly face savage punishment if exposed—from being thrown off a cliff to public beheading. Parvez's odyssey is at once audacious, global, and remarkable. He meets everyone from extremists to explorers of the spiritual kind and the world they open up is frightening . . . yet breathtaking. In Mecca, Parvez comes out to a pilgrim, who then asks him why he would want to be part of something that wants no part of him. This book is his answer to this question and many more. Parvez provides an unflinching look at our troubling unfolding history, including Hizbullah, ISIS, Trump, the race-wars, an embattled Europe, and more. He offers real solutions, borne of his efforts to get his hands dirty to find them. This is a lived history—and its author is no armchair theorist. Following the New York Times Critics' Pick hit documentary of the same title, A Sinner in Mecca unflinchingly showcases parts of the dangerous ideology that governs today's ISIS and how much it has in common with Saudi Arabia's sacred, yet treacherous dogma, Wahhabi Islam. A Sinner in Mecca is simultaneously one man's personal odyssey as well as a groundbreaking, provocative revelation of a clandestine world and its fastest growing and most contested religion.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book reveals that over the millennia the revealed knowledge has evolved in accordance with the advancement of the human civilization. Accordingly by the advent of the Prophet Muhammad, it has been updated for the rest of the humanity till end of the world. Hence the prophet Hood has reached its peak and Muhammad remains the seal of the prophets till end of the world. The knowledge of revelation, endowed to the mankind remains over and above to their knowledge acquired through the instincts and the intuition. The purpose of the revealed knowledge is that God wants His supreme creature to qualify for the righteous end, duly prescribed by Him. He has therefore provided us the syllabus, the text Books and the teachers. The last and final after the books of Torah and Gospel is the Quran and after the Prophets Moses and Jesus is the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon them all. Hence Islam is not a new religion, but the finalization of the Abrahams religion having the same purpose and the values meant by God through Judaism, Christianity and Islam. The author hopes that this book will work to bring all the three big nations, the Jews, Christians and the Muslim closer to each other quitting behind hatred hidden in their hearts and combine them together at the similar cause, that is obedience and supplication to the Gods Commandments and peace and love for the humanity leaving behind all the prejudices and hatred. May God, the Allah guide us for the right path, Amen.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a detailed account of the emergence and metamorphoses of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and its political arm, Jamat ud Dawah, since the early 1990s. Linking the group's narratives to the process of Islamization in Pakistan and divergent views on the country's Islamic identity, it is the first systematic analysis of how the organization, globally reviled as the perpetrator of the 2008 Mumbai Bombings, has developed its conception of da'wah (proselytizing) and jihad in response to regional and global developments. Samina Yasmeen makes extensive use of Urdu materials (pamphlets, books, ephemera) by Markaz Da'wah wal Irshad, the parent organization of LeT, to examine the 'insider's vision' of the dominant threats to Pakistan and the Muslim ummah, as well as strategies for countering these threats. She argues that while adopting an oppositional narrative vis-à-vis India and the West, LeT has increasingly turned its attention to da'wah narratives within Pakistan engaging with broader spectrums of society. Women have increasingly been assigned significant agency in this narrative, and JuD's activism in education and social welfare has helped it acquire social capital. This, in turn, prompts a re-imagining of the movement's relationship with the Pakistani military.
