Book excerpt: " HAIR RAISING STORIES" is a book about a number of my experiences as a hairdresser. Being in the business for twenty seven years, I have encountered many walks of life that have come through the salon door and have sat in my chair. The stories are all true, ( believe me, I`d be hard pressed to make half this stuff up!) Although geared toward hair dressers world wide, it has universal appeal. There are many lessons to be learned throughout life and many lessons I have learned by working with the public and through my clients themselves. Many are humorous and will tickle the funny bone, while others will pull and tug at the heart. The reader will be drawn in and know they are not alone as they will be able to relate to some or most of the stories.

Book Hair Raising Stories

Download or read book Hair Raising Stories written by Patricia Varhola and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I wrote this book about different people from all different walks of life—doctors, lawyers, architects—and a large portion of this book is centered around my life-long profession as a hairstylist. Many of these stories center around my clients over the past thirty-seven years, and I couldn't have done it without them. I began writing this book while my son was in prison, and my experiences with the justice system—and just how unfair and drawn out the process can often be. All of this shaped the person I've become. It began as a private, journal form of therapy and coping for me, but it soon morphed into a much longer, more intricate story about both the prison system, but all the colorful people who helped me along the way. My spirituality and faith also helped me —and I want to thank all the people in my church for praying for me and with me throughout the years. In addition, the birth of my first grandchild, my grandson Robert, helped alleviate my pain over my son's incarceration and gave me something positive and joyous to focus on. I also realized that God was really there for me during this whole process, and He intervened by sending people into my life to brighten my mood and change the course of my life. I never missed work that entire time. Work was my outlet, a way of escaping from all the stress. Mainly, I have to thank God for allowing me to go through these hard times and come out a stronger, more resilient person. I'm also less judgmental in my day to day life, and now I can look at situations in my life and the lives of others with a different perspective.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: History is full of fascinating stories of colorful characters, but some of the most interesting parts of history are really odd. You have probably seen scenes of government officials with their powdered white wigs, but in 1700s England and high-society in the American colonies, women created towering hairstyles. Decorations such as ships and flowers were sometimes added to their hairdos, especially if attending a big party. Taking hours to create, women used beef tallow and sugar-water to keep their hairdos in place. This fictional account explains a very real fashion trend and the problems it created for women trying to look stylish!

Book excerpt: Inspired by my experiences as a mom, Bed Head: A Hair-Raising Adventure is a tale that children, parents, teachers and caregivers will find relatable. We've all woken up with a bad case of bed head at some point in our lives. Bed Head is the story of what happens to your hair at night while sleeping. It's quite an adventure!Like many children, my kids, particularly when they were younger, were not big fans of hairbrushes. It was often a challenge to get them to brush their locks, even when they awoke with hair sticking up in all different directions. In fact, many of the lines from this story are actual words that came from conversations with my kids about their bed head.
