Book excerpt: Hague Convention on Intercountry Adoption - Intercountry Adoption Act of 2000 - Accreditation of Agencies - Approval of Persons (U.S. Department of State Regulation) (DOS) (2018 Edition) The Law Library presents the complete text of the Hague Convention on Intercountry Adoption - Intercountry Adoption Act of 2000 - Accreditation of Agencies - Approval of Persons (U.S. Department of State Regulation) (DOS) (2018 Edition). Updated as of May 29, 2018 The Department of State (the Department) is issuing a final rule on the accreditation and approval of agencies and persons in accordance with the 1993 Hague Convention on Protection of Children and Co-operation in Respect of Intercountry Adoption (the Convention) and the Intercountry Adoption Act of 2000 (the IAA), after review of public comments received in response to the Department's September 15, 2003 issuance of a proposed rule. The Convention and the IAA generally require that agencies and persons be accredited or approved to provide adoption services for intercountry adoptions when both countries involved are parties to the Convention, and the IAA requires that the Department designate one or more qualified accrediting entities to accredit and approve agencies and persons. Today's new action establishes the accreditation and approval standards for agencies and persons that accrediting entities will use; establishes requirements applicable to potential accrediting entities; and establishes a framework for the Department's oversight of accrediting entities, agencies, and persons. This action is a necessary step toward bringing the Convention into force for the United States. Book International Adoption

Download or read book International Adoption written by Margaret C. Jasper and published by Oxford University Press, USA. This book was released on 2003 with total page 142 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There are many citizens in the United States who have hopes of adopting a child. However, there are fewer and fewer children in America who are available for adoption. International Adoption provides an overview of international adoption, and discusses the steps prospective adoptive parents must take to adopt a child from abroad, and obtain United States citizenship for that child. This Almanac also discusses the applicable immigration laws which must be complied with in order to legally bring an adoptive, or prospective adoptive, child born abroad to the United States, and provides important information concerning some of the illegal and unscrupulous practices which a prospective adoptive parent may encounter in pursuing an international adoption. The Legal Almanac series serves to educate the general public on a variety of legal issues pertinent to everyday life and to keep readers informed of their rights and remedies under the law. Each volume in the series presents an explanation of a specific legal issue in simple, clearly written text, making the Almanac a concise and perfect desktop reference tool. All volumes provide state-by-state coverage. Selected state statutes are included, as are important case law and legislation, charts and tables for comparison.
