Book Potential Theory

    Book Details:
  • Author : Jürgen Bliedtner
  • Publisher : Springer Science & Business Media
  • Release : 2012-12-06
  • ISBN : 3642711316
  • Pages : 448 pages

Download or read book Potential Theory written by Jürgen Bliedtner and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 448 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the last thirty years potential theory has undergone a rapid development, much of which can still only be found in the original papers. This book deals with one part of this development, and has two aims. The first is to give a comprehensive account of the close connection between analytic and probabilistic potential theory with the notion of a balayage space appearing as a natural link. The second aim is to demonstrate the fundamental importance of this concept by using it to give a straight presentation of balayage theory which in turn is then applied to the Dirichlet problem. We have considered it to be beyond the scope of this book to treat further topics such as duality, ideal boundary and integral representation, energy and Dirichlet forms. The subject matter of this book originates in the relation between classical potential theory and the theory of Brownian motion. Both theories are linked with the Laplace operator. However, the deep connection between these two theories was first revealed in the papers of S. KAKUTANI [1], [2], [3], M. KAC [1] and J. L. DO DB [2] during the period 1944-54: This can be expressed by the·fact that the harmonic measures which occur in the solution of the Dirichlet problem are hitting distri butions for Brownian motion or, equivalently, that the positive hyperharmonic func tions for the Laplace equation are the excessive functions of the Brownian semi group.

Book A Bilingual Dictionary of the Hebrew and Aramaic Old Testament

Download or read book A Bilingual Dictionary of the Hebrew and Aramaic Old Testament written by Koehler and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2001-01-05 with total page 1477 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The publication of the first edition of A Bilingual Dictionary of the Hebrew and Aramaic Old Testament by Ludwig Koehler and Walter Baumgartner in 1953 marked a major event in Old Testament studies. It presented a vast treasure of lexicographical material, with renderings into both German and English. Its publication superseded at once all other existing dictionaries, mostly stemming from the 19th century. The Dictionary offered for the first time a strictly alphabetical order of entries, rather than a simple arrangement by roots. This feature not only saved the scholar much time and work, it also set the standard for future lexicographical work on the Old Testament. In 1958 a new, expanded edition was published which included an extensive supplement. Many reprints have followed since, all following the original presentation of a dictionary and supplement in two separate volumes. To this very day the Dictionary remains the only complete and comprehensive English-German dictionary of the Old Testament. This new impression of the Dictionary is published in one handy volume, meeting the needs of many scholars and students. Originally published as Lexicon in Veteris Testamenti Libros, 1953-1983

Book Combinatorics and Complexity of Partition Functions

Download or read book Combinatorics and Complexity of Partition Functions written by Alexander Barvinok and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-03-13 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Partition functions arise in combinatorics and related problems of statistical physics as they encode in a succinct way the combinatorial structure of complicated systems. The main focus of the book is on efficient ways to compute (approximate) various partition functions, such as permanents, hafnians and their higher-dimensional versions, graph and hypergraph matching polynomials, the independence polynomial of a graph and partition functions enumerating 0-1 and integer points in polyhedra, which allows one to make algorithmic advances in otherwise intractable problems. The book unifies various, often quite recent, results scattered in the literature, concentrating on the three main approaches: scaling, interpolation and correlation decay. The prerequisites include moderate amounts of real and complex analysis and linear algebra, making the book accessible to advanced math and physics undergraduates.

Book Magnetic Properties of Layered Transition Metal Compounds

Download or read book Magnetic Properties of Layered Transition Metal Compounds written by L.J. de Jongh and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 430 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the last two decades low-dimensional (low-d) physics has matured into a major branch of science. Quite generally we may define a system with restricted dimensionality d as an object that is infinite only in one or two spatial directions (d = 1 and 2). Such a definition comprises isolated single chains or layers, but also fibres and thin layers (films) of varying but finite thickness. Clearly, a multitude of physical phenomena, notably in solid state physics, fall into these categories. As examples, we may mention: • Magnetic chains or layers (thin-film technology). • Metallic films (homogeneous or heterogeneous, crystalline, amorphous or microcristalline, etc.). • I-d or 2-d conductors and superconductors. • Intercalated systems. • 2-d electron gases (electrons on helium, semiconductor interfaces). • Surface layer problems (2-d melting of monolayers of noble gases on a substrate, surface problems in general). • Superfluid films of ~He or 'He. • Polymer physics. • Organic and inorganic chain conductors, superionic conductors. • I-d or 2-d molecular crystals and liquid crystals. • I-d or 2-d ferro- and antiferro electrics.

Book THE CLEARSPELL SYSTEM OF SPELLING REFORM

Download or read book THE CLEARSPELL SYSTEM OF SPELLING REFORM written by Professor Alice Coleman and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2014-08-02 with total page 204 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Spoken English is ideal but written English has the world's worst spelling. Now Professor Coleman, a long-time expert, presents Clearspell, with ten great reform benefits making the spoken and written forms agree logically, clearly and concisely. Clearspell is unambiguous. A Clearspell word sounds exactly as the spelling indicates - unlike a vast number of words with the usual spelling. English spelling is famously hard to learn. For foreign students Clearspell is a real boon. But it is a spelling system in its own right. Read this book and see how much easier it could all be.

Book Variations on a Theorem of Tate

Download or read book Variations on a Theorem of Tate written by Stefan Patrikis and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2019-04-10 with total page 170 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Let F be a number field. These notes explore Galois-theoretic, automorphic, and motivic analogues and refinements of Tate's basic result that continuous projective representations Gal(F¯¯¯¯/F)→PGLn(C) lift to GLn(C). The author takes special interest in the interaction of this result with algebraicity (for automorphic representations) and geometricity (in the sense of Fontaine-Mazur). On the motivic side, the author studies refinements and generalizations of the classical Kuga-Satake construction. Some auxiliary results touch on: possible infinity-types of algebraic automorphic representations; comparison of the automorphic and Galois “Tannakian formalisms” monodromy (independence-of-ℓ) questions for abstract Galois representations.
