Book Hadronic Form Factors

Book excerpt: The challenging problem of applicability of the perturbative QCD to exclusive processes is revealed. The basic ingredients both of the asymptotic large Q2 analysis and of the QCD sum rule approach are analyzed for the simplest and most well-studied example of the pion electromagnetic form factor. The main conclusion is that for accessible energies and momentum transfers the soft (nonperturbative) contributions dominate over those due to the hard quark rescattering subprocesses.

Book excerpt: The shape of hadronic distribution amplitudes (DAs) is a critical issue for the perturbative QCD of hard exclusive processes. Recent CLEO data on [gamma][gamma]{sup *} → [pi]° form factor clearly favor a pion DA close to the asymptotic form. The author argues that QCD sum rules for the moments of the pion DA {var_phi}{sub [pi]}(x) are unreliable, so that the humpy shape of {var_phi}{sub {pi}}(x) obtained by Chernyak and Zhitnitsky is a result of model assumptions rather than an unambiguous consequence of QCD sum rules. This conclusion is also supported by a direct QCD sum rule calculation of the [gamma][gamma]{sup *} → {pi}° form factor which gives a result very close to the CLEO data.

Book Vacuum Structure and QCD Sum Rules

Download or read book Vacuum Structure and QCD Sum Rules written by M.A. Shifman and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1992-12-23 with total page 529 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The method of the QCD sum rules was and still is one of the most productive tools in a wide range of problems associated with the hadronic phenomenology. Many heuristic ideas, computational devices, specific formulae which are useful to theorists working not only in hadronic physics, have been accumulated in this method. Some of the results and approaches which have originally been developed in connection with the QCD sum rules can be and are successfully applied in related fields, such as supersymmetric gauge theories, nontraditional schemes of quarks and leptons etc. The amount of literature on these and other more basic problems in hadronic physics has grown enormously in recent years. This volume presents a collection of papers which provide an overview of all basic elements of the sum rule approach and priority has been given to those works which seemed most useful from a pedagogical point of view.

Download or read book Once More on the Applicability of Perturbative QCD to Elastic Form Factors written by and published by . This book was released on 1992 with total page 549 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The long-standing problem of the applicability of perturbative QCD to hadronic elastic form factors is discussed. The basic ingredients both of the asymptotic large-Q2 treatment and of the QCD sum rule approach are analyzed. The main conclusion is that for accessible energies and momentum transfers the soft (nonperturbative) contributions dominate over those due to the hard quark rescattering subprocesses.

Download or read book Hadron Form Factors written by Alexander Khodjamirian and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2020-03-13 with total page 203 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book introduces the phenomenology and theory of hadron form factors in a consistent manner, deriving step-by-step the key equations, defining the form factors from the matrix elements of hadronic transitions and deriving their symmetry relations. Explained are several general concepts of particle theory and phenomenology exemplified by hadron form factors. The main emphasis here is on learning the analytical methods in particle phenomenology. Many examples of hadronic processes involving form factors are considered, from the pion electromagnetic scattering to heavy B-meson decays. In the second part of the book, modern techniques of the form factor calculation, based on the method of sum rules in the theory of strong interactions, quantum chromodynamics, are introduced in an accessible manner. This book will be a useful guide for graduate students and early-career researchers working in the field of particle phenomenology and experiments. Features: • The first book to address the phenomenology of hadron form factors at a pedagogical level in one coherent volume • Contains up-to-date descriptions of the most important form factors of the electroweak transitions investigated in particle physics experiments

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This 2004 book provides a pedagogical introduction to the perturbative and non-perturbative aspects of quantum chromodynamics (QCD). The text introduces the basic theory of QCD and its historical development, covering pre-QCD ideas of strong interactions such as the quark and parton models, the notion of colours and the S-matrix approach. The author then discusses gauge theory, techniques of dimensional regularization and renormalization, deep inelastic scattering and hard processes in hadron collisions, hadron jets and e+e- annihilations. Other topics include power corrections and the technologies of the Shifman-Vainshtein-Zakharov operating product expansion. The final parts of the book are devoted to modern non-perturbative approaches to QCD and the phenomenological aspects of QCD spectral sum rules. The book will be a valuable reference for graduate students and researchers in high-energy particle and nuclear physics, both theoretical and experimental. This book has been reissued as an Open Access publication on Cambridge Core.

Download or read book Quantum Chromodynamics written by B. L. Ioffe and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2010-01-21 with total page 597 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Aimed at graduate students and researchers in theoretical physics, this book presents the modern theory of strong interaction: quantum chromodynamics (QCD). The book exposes various perturbative and nonperturbative approaches to the theory, including chiral effective theory, the problems of anomalies, vacuum tunnel transitions, and the problem of divergence of the perturbative series. The QCD sum rules approach is exposed in detail. A great variety of hadronic properties (masses of mesons and baryons, magnetic moments, form factors, quark distributions in hadrons, etc.) have been found using this method. The evolution of hadronic structure functions is presented in detail, together with polarization phenomena. The problem of jets in QCD is treated through theoretical description and experimental observation. The connection with Regge theory is emphasized. The book covers many aspects of theory which are not discussed in other books, such as CET, QCD sum rules, and BFKL. • Provides a deep understanding of various aspects of the modern theory of strong interaction • Presents the general properties of QCD, before exploring perturbative and nonperturbative approaches • Discusses aspects of the theory such as CET, QCD sum rules, and BFKL, which are not covered in other books
