Book excerpt: During the running periods of the years 1992, 1993, 1994 the BES experiment at the Beijing Electron Positron Collider (BEPC) collected 22.9[plus-minus] 0.7 pb[sup[minus]1] of data at an energy of 4.03 GeV, which corresponds to a local peak for e[sup+]e[sup[minus]][yields] D[sub s][sup+]D[sub s][sup[minus]] production. Four D[sub s] hadronic decay modes were tagged: D[sub s][yields][phi][pi];[phi][yields] K[sup+]K[sup[minus]]; D[sub s][yields][bar K]*(892)[sup o]K;[bar K]*[sup o](892)[yields] K[sup[minus]][pi][sup+]; D[sub s][bar K][sup o]K;[bar K][sub s][sup o][yields][pi][sup+][pi][sup[minus]]; D[sub s][yields][bar K]*(892)[sup o]K*;[bar K]*[sup o](892)[yields] K[sup[minus]][pi][sup+]; K*(892)[yields] K[sup o][pi][sup+]; K[sub s][sup o][yields][pi][sup+][pi][sup[minus]]. Using the method of double-tagging, BES performed the first model-independent measurement of BrD[sub s[yields][phi][pi]]. Our result was Br[sub D[sub s][yields][phi][pi]]= 3.4[sub[minus]1.7-0.7][sup+4.8+1.3].

Book excerpt: In the spectator model, the lowest lying bound state of the charm-strange quarks, the Ds meson, is predicted to decay via W emission from the charm quark and form states with s{bar s} hidden strangeness. The conventional hadronic modes will contain K{bar K}, [phi] and the f0(975), which is considered to be the J{sup pc} = 0{sup ++} isoscalar s{bar s} meson. Hadronic decays of the Ds meson have been measured in relatively few modes and all modes are measured relative to the [phi][pi] mode. In this paper, an upper limit for the absolute branching ratio of the Ds decay into the [phi][pi] mode and evidence for the decay, Ds → f0(975)[pi] is presented from the Mark III. 26 refs., 4 figs.

Book Partial Reconstruction of Bz to Dss Dstarm Decays and Measurement of the Ds to Phi Pip Branching Fraction

Download or read book Partial Reconstruction of Bz to Dss Dstarm Decays and Measurement of the Ds to Phi Pip Branching Fraction written by and published by . This book was released on 2004 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Preliminary results are presented on the branching fractions B (B[sup 0] --> D[sub s][sup *+]D[sup *-]) and B (D[sub s][sup +] --> [phi][pi][sup +]), based on a data sample of approximately 124 x 10[sup 6] B[bar B] events collected by the BABAR detector at the PEP-II e[sup +]e[sup -] B-factory. B (B[sup 0] --> D[sub s][sup *+]D[sup *-]) is measured selecting neutral B meson decays to the final state D[sup *-]D[sub s][sup *+] with partial reconstruction of the D[sub s][sup *+], in which only the D[sup *-] and the soft photons from the decay D[sub s][sup *+] --> D[sub s][sup +][gamma] are reconstructed. The branching fraction product B (B[sup 0] --> D[sub s][sup *+]D[sup *-]) [center-dot] B(D[sub s][sup +] --> [phi][pi][sup +]) is measured via a complete reconstruction of the whole decay chain. Comparing these two measurements provides a model-independent determination of the B (D[sub s][sup +] --> [phi][pi][sup +]) branching fraction. The authors obtain the following preliminary results: B(B[sup 0] --> D[sub s][sup *+]D[sup *-]) = (1.85 [+-] 0.09 [+-] 0.16)%; B(D[sub s][sup +] --> [phi][pi][sup +]) = (4.71 [+-] 0.47 [+-] 0.35)% where the first error in each measurement is statistical, the second systematic.

Book Hadronic Decays of the D sub S Meson

Download or read book Hadronic Decays of the D sub S Meson written by and published by . This book was released on 1989 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The D/sub s/ is the lowest-lying pseudoscalar meson containing charm and anti-strange quarks. Evidence for this state was first reported in 1977, although more recent observations disagree with some of the early results. Since 1983 the weakly decaying D/sub s/+ has been observed in many experiments. Relative branching fractions have been measured for many non-leptonic decay modes, including D/sub s/+ 2!??+,??+?+?/sup /minus//, /bar K/*°K+, and f0(975)?+. The absolute branching fractions are estimated in high energy e+e/sup /minus// annihilation from the observed numbers of reconstructed D/sub s/+ decays and the expected D/sub s/+ production cross section. The lowest-lying vector c/bar s/ meson, the D/sub s/*+, has also been seen in its decay to?D/sub s/+. Weak decays of the heavy quark and lepton flavors are relevant to the development of the Standard Model of both the electroweak and the strong interactions. Measurements of charmed particle weak decay are useful for determining the parameter of the Standard Model and for testing phenomenological models which include strong effects. 83 refs., 56 figs., 12 tabs.

Download or read book Measurement of Ds and Ds Production in B Meson Decays and from Continuum E e Annihilation at Sqrt s written by and published by . This book was released on 2002 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: New measurements of D[sub s][sup+] and D*[sub s][sup+] meson production rates from B decays and from q[bar q] continuum events near the[Upsilon](4S) resonance are presented. Using 20.8 fb[sup -1] of data on the[Upsilon](4S) resonance and 2.6 fb[sup -1] off resonance, we find the inclusive branching fractions[Beta](B[yields] D[sub s][sup+]X)= (10.93[+-] 0.19[+-] 0.58[+-] 2.73)% and[Beta](B[yields] D*[sub s][sup+] X)= (7.9[+-] 0.8[+-] 0.7[+-] 2.0)%, where the first error is statistical, the second is systematic, and the third is due to the D[sub s][sup+][yields][phi][pi][sup+] branching fraction uncertainty. The branching fractions[Sigma][Beta](B[yields] D(*)[sub s][sup+][bar D](*))= (5.07[+-] 0.14[+-] 0.30[+-] 1.27)% and[Sigma][Beta](B[yields] D*[sub s][sup+][bar D](*))= (4.1[+-] 0.2[+-] 0.4[+-] 1.0)% are determined from the D(*)[sub s][sup+] momentum spectra.

Book excerpt: The authors present a model-independent measurement of?(D{sub s}− →??−)/?(D° → K−?) by partially reconstructing the decay {bar B}° → D*+D*{sub s}−. Using data collected with the CLEO II detector at CESR, they determine?(D{sub s}− →??−)/?(D° → K−?+) = 0.92 ± 0.20(stat.) ± 0.11(syst.). Their measurement of?(D° → K−?+) then gives?(D{sub s}− →??−) = (3.59 ± 0.77 ± 0.48)%.

Book D Meson Hadronic Decays at CLEO c

Download or read book D Meson Hadronic Decays at CLEO c written by and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page 50 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The recent CLEO-c results on hadronic decays of D and D{sub s} mesons are presented. First the absolute branching fractions for D and D{sub s} mesons using a double tag technique are discussed, then are the Cabibbo suppressed decays and doubly Cabibbo suppressed decays. Finally, I present the inclusive and rare decay modes and other measurements from CLEO-c. These decays illuminate a wide range of physics. A brief theoretical introduction is given before the corresponding discussion on measurement.

This book was released on 2004 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The B[sup 0] meson decay modes B[sup 0] --> D*[sup -]p[bar p][pi][sup +], D[sup -]p[bar p][sup +], [bar D]*[sup 0]p[bar p], and B[sup 0] --> [bar D][sup 0]p[bar p] are studied in a sample of 124 x 10[sup 6] B[bar B] pairs collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II collider. The decay of B[sup 0] --> D[sup -]p[bar p][pi][sup +] is observed for the first time, with a measured branching fraction B(B[sup 0] --> D[sup -]p[bar p][pi][sup +]) = (3.80 [+-] 0.35 [+-] 0.46) x 10[sup -4]. The following branching fractions are also determined: B(B[sup 0] --> D*[sup -]p[bar p][pi][sup +]) = (5.61 [+-] 0.59 [+-] 0.73) x 10[sup -4], B(B[sup 0] --> [bar D]*[sup 0] p[bar p]) = (0.67 [+-] 0.21 [+-] 0.09) x 10[sup -4], and B(B[sup 0] --> [bar D][sup 0]p[bar p]) = (1.24 [+-] 0.14 [+-] 0.12) x 10[sup -4]. In each decay mode the invariant mass spectra of the charmed mesons and the baryons are compared with a pure phase-space hypothesis in order to gain insight into the B meson decay dynamics. In particular, the Dalitz plots of [bar D]*[sup 0]p versus [bar D]*[sup 0][bar p] for B[sup 0] --> [bar D]*[sup 0]p[bar p] and of [bar D][sup 0]p versus [bar D][sup 0][bar p] for B[sup 0] --> [bar D][sup 0]p[bar p] are presented. All results are preliminary.

Book Recent Results on D Meson Decays from the MARK III

Download or read book Recent Results on D Meson Decays from the MARK III written by and published by . This book was released on 1985 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The MARK III Collaboration recently completed the analysis of a number of decay modes of charged and neutral D mesons produced in electron-positron collisions near the peak of the psi(3770) resonance at SLAC's SPEAR storage ring. The mesons were produced nearly at rest in pairs, either DD− or D° anti D°, at a center-of-mass energy below the threshold for DD production. The unique kinematics of the production allow us to isolate the charmed meson signal clearly and unambiguously. The data were collected with the MARK III Spectrometer, a large solid angle magnetic detector. Our data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of approximately 9.3 inverse picobarns. New results will be presented on the absolute branching ratios of D mesons into hadronic final states, branching ratios for three body decays via pseudoscalar-vector intermediate states, and branching ratios for Cabibbo allowed and Cabibbo suppressed decays. Inclusive and exclusive branching ratios for the semi-leptonic decays of D mesons will be presented, as well as the first measurement of the vector form factor in the decay D° .-->. K−e, nu, evidence for interference in D+ decays, and new information on the contributions of W exchange diagrams to D° decays.
