Book excerpt: In Greek mythology and modern literature, there are stories about sons of Zeus and sons of Poseidon, but in school one day, I wondered, “What about a son of Hades?” My highly imaginative mind went to work. The Son of Hades is my answer to my own question. The tale is told by Euphemia, the storyteller, and she recounts the tale of Keegan Odysseus Donahue in vivid detail, from how his parents meet to how he became—well, I won’t spoil that for you. The story begins many ages ago, with the heinous act of a desperate deity, the death of the youngest of the Graces at the hand of Hades. This act leads Zeus to make an edict that condemns any child of Hades to death. Sometime later, Angelia, daughter of Hermes, visits Keegan’s mother, Lady Donahue, and whisks her and the small child away to live hidden from all who would carry out Zeus’s edict. Years later, having grown up in his father’s shadow, Keegan is hated and shunned by many, save for his own mother and the daughter of Hermes, until he meets a beautiful demigoddess, Helen Adonia, that takes a liking to him. But this is no Greek comedy, and happiness cannot find our hero so easily. Helen is a descendant of the Graces and is therefore an heir of Hades’ curse, and now Keegan must set out to confront his father in order to save his friend. But the journey will not be an easy one. With the heat of Zeus’s edict bearing down on his neck, Keegan will need all the help he can get to make it to the Underworld alive. Fortunately, Angelia and her companion, Delma Chantal, have decided to accompany him on his quest. What perils does The Son of Hades hold for our heroes? Find out inside.

There are many more magical beings on Earth, and they live amongst us as humans that are in touch with a side of them that makes them powerful. Surreal’s parents give him the life that every kid dreams of. He grows up with friends that look at him as if he is a brother. He doesn’t like the title because of the big secret that he has kept from them, a secret that brings out too many questions that can’t be answered without putting them in danger. He gets away with it for years, until a pool party ends in a blood bath with most of his peers as the victims. With the secret out, he has to travel with a group of friends to get to the Olympian Stadium to connect with the primary source of his power to defend himself from the sons of Hades. Surreal is looking forward to the tough journey ahead. What he doesn’t count on is the new company of a human woman... so he thinks. Nova has been on her own since she was thirteen. She notices how different she is and decides to travel the road alone. Nova never knows where she is going until she gets to her destination. It is a pull that she can’t escape that draws her to a stranger that was walking across the street. When they touch accidentally, she feels something different, something that she has never felt before. The stranger promises her the comfort that she doesn’t know to exist. Being on the opposite end of people’s anger makes it hard to trust him. That all changes when she learns of the common trait they hold as a secret. Once upon a time, the world was ruled by the gods of lightning and of the seas. It would be their descendant that will protect them from the one dangerous enemy they couldn’t seem to kill.

Download or read book Mussolini and Hitler written by Christian Goeschel and published by Yale University Press. This book was released on 2018-01-01 with total page 411 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A fresh treatment of Fascist Italy and Nazi Germany, revealing the close ties between Mussolini and Hitler and their regimes From 1934 until 1944 Mussolini met Hitler numerous times, and the two developed a relationship that deeply affected both countries. While Germany is generally regarded as the senior power, Christian Goeschel demonstrates just how much history has underrepresented Mussolini's influence on his German ally. In this highly readable book, Goeschel, a scholar of twentieth-century Germany and Italy, revisits all of Mussolini and Hitler's key meetings and asks how these meetings constructed a powerful image of a strong Fascist-Nazi relationship that still resonates with the general public. His portrait of Mussolini draws on sources ranging beyond political history to reveal a leader who, at times, shaped Hitler's decisions and was not the gullible buffoon he's often portrayed as. The first comprehensive study of the Mussolini-Hitler relationship, this book is a must-read for scholars and anyone interested in the history of European fascism, World War II, or political leadership.
