Book Ecological Living

Download or read book Ecological Living written by Dominique Gauzin-Müller and published by Actes Sud. This book was released on 2009 with total page 416 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The pioneers of ecological architecture today are necessarily researchers as much as architects, in any conventional sense of the term. Sustainability is the key criterion in this field, and ecologically sound solutions for the designs of homes are the key challenge (homes the most commonly built structure). Ecological Living assesses a selection of some recently built ecological habitats, collecting several built examples from a variety of French architects, examining precursors such as Frank Lloyd Wright, Alvar Aalto and Pierre Lajus, plus proposals for European architects and architecture students and inquiries into the ecological viability of detached housing and tower blocks. The book is structured in thematic chapters, such as "Why is Action So Urgent," "The Precursors of Eco-Responsible," "An International Panorama of the State of the Art" and "Into Action!"

Book Citt storica e sostenibilit

Download or read book Citt storica e sostenibilit written by Maurizio De Vita and published by Firenze University Press. This book was released on 2012 with total page 253 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A subject that is inexplicably little studied at present, or indeed not at all, is that of the quest for possible applications and feasible objectives in the energy requalification of existing buildings, existing or planned open spaces, old city centres and the monumental and diffuse cultural heritage. At the present time it is crucial that the issues, research and techniques linked to the possibilities of an aware use of energy are applied to the old city centres and the existing heritage. This must start from a knowledge and investigation of the traditional building materials and techniques, which are in themselves inherently sustainable (comprising both the ancient city and the consolidated modern city and their historic stratifications). The historic environment indeed represents an infinite cultural and environmental resource and a very high percentage of the global architectural heritage.

Book The Global Community Yearbook of International Law and Jurisprudence 2010 Volume I

Download or read book The Global Community Yearbook of International Law and Jurisprudence 2010 Volume I written by Giuliana Ziccardi Capaldo and published by . This book was released on 2012-03-15 with total page 527 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: a. The set generally: [Please note that the following description applies to both volumes in the 2010 Yearbook, not solely to Volume I.] The Global Community Yearbook is a one-stop resource for all researchers studying international law generally or international criminal tribunals specifically. The Global Community Yearbook appears annually in two-volume editions of carefully chosen primary source material and corresponding expert commentary. The general editor, Professor Giuliana Ziccardi Capaldo, employs her vast expertise in international law to select excerpts from important court opinions and also to choose experts from around the world who contribute essay-guides to illuminate those cases. Although the main focus is recent case law from the major international tribunals and regional courts, the first volume of each year's edition always features expert articles by renowned scholars who address broader themes in international law, themes that appear throughout the case law of the many courts covered by the series as a whole. b. This particular edition (2010): Beginning with the 2010 edition, the Yearbook will include the new section, Forum-Jurisprudential Cross-Fertilization: An Annual Overview. This section aims to compare and analyze the interconnections between the decisions of international courts and tribunals, as a way of exploring and examining judicial dialogue and the development of common legal principles and concepts in all branches of international law. The Yearbook is the first academic journal to present an annual overview of the process of jurisprudential cross-fertilization between the courts, based on the drafting and systematic classification of legal maxims (i.e. points of law decided by various international courts) in the section entitled Decisions of International Courts and Tribunals. A comprehensive and complete survey by eminent international law scholars exploring, evaluating and documenting this process has the potential to enhance our contribution and thus further guide our understanding of how to reduce conflicts and create an effective exchange of legal reasoning between different courts. The aim is to promote a favorable environment for the courts to advance the process of judicial cooperation with a view to the possible harmonization of legal principles governing the global community. c. Individual volumes: Volume 1: The 2010 edition of the Global Community Yearbook presents three categories of material wholly beneficial to any international law-researcher: International tribunals' court opinions, excerpted with scholarly skill by General Editor Giuliana Ziccardi Capaldo; expert guidance on those cases in the form of commentary by globally recognized luminaries whom Ziccardi has chosen personally; and more broadly focused introductory essays by similarly prominent scholars whom Ziccardi has also selected for that purpose. In the introductory essays, those scholars take on current topics such as global intellectual property law and policy, the nature of international law and human development, and the legal-political connotation of material support to terrorism. These incisive and knowledgeable introductory articles help frame the debates currently raging in international law before this edition leads the reader on to expert commentary on the noteworthy cases from this past year's dockets of the following tribunals: - The International Court of Justice - The International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea - WTO Dispute Settlement System - International Criminal Court - International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia - International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda - Court of Justice of the European Union Ziccardi has arranged the sections of this volume according to that list of tribunals, and she has included a short, targeted index for each of those sections, making any research in this volume efficient and fruitful. The 2010 edition of the Global Community Yearbook also gives researchers an illuminating tour through the varied and dynamic law of regional and organizational courts. In the court opinion excerpts and expert commentary that fill this volume, researchers will find detailed guidance on a rich diversity of legal topics. On these questions and a host of others, this volume provides to students, scholars, and practitioners alike a valuable combination of expert discussion and direct quotes from the court opinions to which that discussion relates. The courts covered in this edition include: - The Court of Justice - The European Court of Human Rights - Inter-American Court of Human Rights - International Centre for the Settlement of Investment Disputes

Book For a Liberatory Politics of Home

Download or read book For a Liberatory Politics of Home written by Michele Lancione and published by Duke University Press. This book was released on 2023-10-06 with total page 173 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In For a Liberatory Politics of Home, Michele Lancione questions accepted understandings of home and homelessness to offer a radical proposition: homelessness cannot be solved without dismantling current understandings of home. Conventionally, home is framed as a place of security and belonging, while its loss defines what it means to be homeless. On the basis of this binary, a whole industry of policy interventions, knowledge production, and organizing fails to provide solutions to homelessness but perpetuates violent and precarious forms of inhabitation. Drawing on his research and activism around housing in Europe, Lancione attends to the interlocking crises of home and homelessness by recentering the political charge of precarious dwelling. It is there, if often in unannounced ways, that a profound struggle for a differential kind of homing signals multiple possibilities to transcend the violences of home/homelessness. In advancing a new approach to work with the politics of inhabitation, Lancione provides a critique of current practices and offers a transformative vision for a renewed, liberatory politics of home.

Book Habiter la Terre

Download or read book Habiter la Terre written by Bruno Latour and published by Les Liens qui Libèrent. This book was released on 2022-11-30T00:00:00+01:00 with total page 84 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Download or read book Life written by M. Kronegger and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 415 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In her Introduction, Tymieniecka states the core theme of the present book sharply: Is culture an excess of nature's prodigious expansiveness - an excess which might turn out to be dangerous for nature itself if it goes too far - or is culture a 'natural', congenial prolongation of nature-life? If the latter, then culture is assimilated into nature and thus would lose its claim to autonomy: its criteria would be superseded by those of nature alone. Of course, nature and culture may both still be seen as being absorbed by the inner powers of specifically human inwardness, on which view, human being, caught in its own transcendence, becomes separated radically in kind from the rest of existence and may not touch even the shadow of reality except through its own prism. Excess, therefore, or prolongation? And on what terms? The relationship between culture and nature in its technical phase demands a new elucidation. Here this is pursued by excavating the root significance of the 'multiple rationalities' of life. In contrast to Husserl, who differentiated living types according to their degree of participation in the world, the phenomenology of life disentangles living types from within the ontopoietic web of life itself. The human creative act reveals itself as the Great Divide of the Logos of Life - a divide that does not separate but harmonizes, thus dispelling both naturalistic and spiritualistic reductionism.

Book A Philosophy of Discomfort

Download or read book A Philosophy of Discomfort written by Jacques Pezeu-Massabuau and published by Reaktion Books. This book was released on 2013-02-15 with total page 130 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A hard chair. An embarrassing conversation. A mosquito bite. All these provoke in us a sense of discomfort, whether an irksome sensation or an experience of unpleasantness. While we normally define “discomfort” simply as a lack of comfort, it is unclear which came first—comfort or the lack of it. A Philosophy of Discomfort explores comfort and discomfort as historical and philosophical concepts, viewing these ideas as a constant push and pull of opposing forces. Arguing that comfort is a relative state that changes as our concept of well-being evolves, Jacques Pezeu-Massabuau observes our notions of comfort over time, with particular consideration to examples of housing and interiors—in Japanese housing, the Moroccan casbah, and modern city apartments, some aspects of discomfort, or the physical lack of well-being, are tolerated and accepted. Despite the human instinct to avoid discomfort, Pezeu-Massabuau contends that people must recognize the uncomfortable as necessary to existence and suggests they learn to use discomfort as another kind of pleasure, a new hedonism, or simply a new way to achieve well-being. Unraveling the myths of modern comfort, this book serves as a guide to integrating disorder into our daily lives.

Book 30 Ans de t l phonie mobile

Download or read book 30 Ans de t l phonie mobile written by Bruno Salgues and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2013-07-28 with total page 395 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
