Book The Reception of German Literature in U S German Texts 1864 1918

Download or read book The Reception of German Literature in U S German Texts 1864 1918 written by John Hargrove Tatum and published by Peter Lang Incorporated, International Academic Publishers. This book was released on 1988 with total page 410 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book seeks to explore the reception of German literature in the United States from 1864 to 1918, a period of great significance for both the U.S. and Germany in terms of sociopolitical developments that exerted their influence upon the production of literature. However, it is not intended to account for the entire scope of the reception of German belles lettres; rather, the book confines itself to exploring the use of those texts that were read in the classrooms of U.S. high schools and, above all, institutions of higher learning. An introductory chapter offers statistical surveys of textbooks published in the U.S., as such statistics are absolutely essential to ascertain both the availability and degree of popularity of certain texts that were exclusively intended for perusal in the classroom. The following chapters present texts dating from the late Middle Ages to the first decades of our century. Apart from establishing which texts were most frequently used, the chapters endeavor to evaluate the respective texts in terms of their intrinsic and extrinsic literary qualities.

Book The Relationship Hermeneutics in the Context of Pastoral and Catechesis Locus for Dialogue with Culture in the Missio Ecclesiae

Download or read book The Relationship Hermeneutics in the Context of Pastoral and Catechesis Locus for Dialogue with Culture in the Missio Ecclesiae written by Kingsley Anagolu and published by LIT Verlag Münster. This book was released on 2019-04 with total page 372 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The authority-oriented pastoral/catechetical planning method, which characterizes the African mission transmission, has been problematic as it subtly neglects in its pedagogy the culture and daily life of the subject. Hence, the people operate a Christian/cultural double standard. This book proffers an alternative as the author makes the concept of the relationship hermeneutics model to a creative writing that aims towards an empirical application in the theology of inculturation, which is a subject-oriented and dialogical method that draws its strength from the incarnation prototype.

Book Theology of Ministry

Download or read book Theology of Ministry written by Borght and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2007-06-30 with total page 490 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Theology of ministry has always been a controversial issue in the relation between churches, especially with its juridical approach that concentrated on authority. In recent decades the secularization and individualization in the Western world have intensified the challenge to reformulate the mission of the church and its ministries. Building on the Reformed theology of the 16th century (Zwingli, Calvin and confessions) and on the results of the ecumenical convergence on ministry (BEM) in the 20th century, this study presents building blocks for a renewed theology of ministry in the 21st century.

Book Reclaiming the Bible for the Church

Download or read book Reclaiming the Bible for the Church written by Carl E. Braaten and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2016-12-30 with total page 151 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Front-ranking theologians speak out on the crisis of biblical authority and interpretation in the church, focusing in particular on the adequacy of the historical-critical method of hermeneutics. The essays in this volume address from various perspectives the notorious gap between the historical critical approach to the study of the Bible and the church's liturgical and dogmatic transmission of biblical faith. The authors, following the central theme suggested by Brevard S. Childs's "canonical method" of biblical interpretation, argue that the historical-critical method does not suffice of itself apart from faith and the church.

In addition to detailed exegesis, Schnackenburg pays special attention to the history of interpretation of Ephesians, taking account of comparative material in the history of religion and, at the end of each exegetical section, shows how findings are relevant for today. The theological focus is the concept of the church, giving rise to ecumenical discussion about ministry and office in the church. This commentary has proved invaluable for biblical scholars, clergy and theological students.
